What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 439 Something Is Wrong
The next day, Quintin and Avery came to Styx Mansion again. They arrived early in the morning and waited outside for Lewis to leave. They hid behind a nearby tree and snooped around while keeping their eyes on the manor's entrance.
Around nine o'clock, they saw Lewis walking out of the house. Lewis got into a Bentley parked at the mansion's entrance.
Before Lewis opened the car door, he suddenly looked in their direction. However, he didn't see anything.
He got into the car, and it sped away.
The two stayed still. They didn't move until the car was out of sight. Only then did they cautiously show their faces again.
"He's gone." Quintin breathed a sigh of relief.
Avery glanced at him disdainfully and took the lead to walk toward the mansion.
"Wait for me!" Quintin hurriedly caught up with Avery.
They arrived at the main gate and pressed the doorbell. After a short while, Mrs. Larson opened the door. She looked pleasantly surprised to see Avery.
"Miss Avery, you're here?"
Avery nodded. "Where's Josephine?"
"She's upstairs sleeping."
"I'll go check on her."
Avery quickly ran into the mansion and found the bedroom with ease. As expected, Josephine was sleeping inside.
She looked somewhat conflicted.
Quintin was confused. "What's wrong with her?"
Avery replied, "I don't know. I heard she's been sleeping all day. Even the doctor can't figure out what's wrong with her."
As she spoke, she sat down next to Josephine's bed.
Quintin also glanced at Josephine and couldn't help but furrow his brows. "Then why is Lewis always going out? Is he really that busy every day?"
"I don't know."
Avery nudged Josephine, but Josephine didn't respond.
"Avery, is she dead?"
As soon as Quintin finished speaking, Avery kicked his head. "Shut up! You're the one who is dying!"
Quintin stepped aside and dodged Avery's attack.
He realized his words were inappropriate and slapped his own cheek, saying, "Me and my big mouth. Josephine will be fine!"
He looked at Josephine with concern in his eyes.
The two were bored in the room. Since Josephine was still asleep, they started playing games on their phones.
One sat on the bed while the other confidently lounged on the sofa.
"Why are you so clumsy? Go up! Attack him!"
"Hey, you're running too fast. I can't catch up! Slow down, slow down! There's someone behind you. Hurry!"
Mrs. Larson stood outside the door and listened to their constant chatter. She felt somewhat hesitant, but after a brief contemplation, she quietly stepped back.
They were just too noisy. In the afternoon, their voices finally woke Josephine up.
She opened her eyes and looked over.
She then saw the two sprawled on the sofa next to the window. They were charging their phones. They were still engrossed in their games. Josephine got excited and struggled to get up from the bed.
She called out a couple of times. Unfortunately, her voice was too weak. The two were too absorbed in their games and couldn't hear her at all. Josephine weakly leaned against the bedside and rubbed her stomach. She was so hungry.
They were so noisy that none of them noticed her calling out to them.
She stared at them resentfully and thought of a way to get their attention. Suddenly, the bedroom door was opened.
More precisely, someone kicked it open!
The loud noise startled Josephine, and the two people playing games on the sofa looked up in unison too.
About a dozen masked men were standing at the door. They looked very intimidating.
"Who are you?" Sierra dropped her phone and jolted up from the seat.
Sierra noticed that Josephine was awake and quickly rushed to her side.
Quintin also rushed over. He spread his arms to shield them. "Do you know where you are? Stop causing trouble here!"
The intruders remained silent. They charged fiercely toward Josephine.
Sierra grabbed something from the bedside and threw it at them. It caused a clattering sound as it shattered on the floor. However, it didn't work. The intruders quickly closed in on them.
Quintin tried to stop them but was easily overpowered within a couple of moves. They kicked him to the ground.
Sierra looked at him. She felt both anxious and angry. "Why are you so weak?"
Quintin sat on the floor and clenched his stomach in pain. He managed to muster some words while in agony. "Stop making sarcastic remarks!"
Lewis had just finished a meeting at the company. Conrad was reporting the progress of Oberon's case to him.
"We found the person who met with Oberon in the outskirts. He has phone records of conversations with Kiran. Now, we have all the key evidence in our hands."
Now, they had the leverage to negotiate with Kiran. Kiran was going down this time.
Lewis stared at the computer screen, and his gaze turned solemn.
He then said, "Something is wrong."
Lewis interrupted Conrad.
"What is it?"
Conrad leaned over and looked at the computer screen. It displayed the bedroom's surveillance footage.
The group was restraining Quintin and Sierra while a few men were taking Josephine away.
Conrad's face turned pale. "These guys... What do we do?"
Lewis wore a stern expression. He threw the files onto the desk and walked out.
Conrad dared not waste time and quickly caught up with him. He called Phineas to send a team to the mansion to track down the group of people and keep an eye on their movements.
After making the call, he and Lewis went to the parking lot.
Lewis suddenly asked, "Where is Kiran?"
"I don't know. He didn't come to the company today. Did he do this?"
Lewis frowned. "It's not like him to do this, but it doesn't matter now. Let's go."
They got into the car and hurriedly drove away.
Conrad stepped on the gas pedal and headed straight toward Styx Mansion.
Phineas' men arrived at the same time as them. They rushed into the mansion and found Mrs. Larson unconscious on the ground.
Two bodyguards approached Lewis and said, "Mr. Lewis, we ..."
Lewis glanced at them. "What have you guys been doing?"
"They climbed over the wall and went upstairs. When they came out, they used Mrs. Alvarez as a hostage, so we didn't dare to act rashly. Our men have already gone after them."
Ignoring their explanation, Lewis immediately stepped upstairs. The bedroom was in a mess, and Josephine was nowhere to be found. Even Sierra and Quintin were gone.
Conrad exclaimed in astonishment, "Does Kiran have the audacity to do such a thing?"
Oberon's case was not yet settled, and now he was even kidnapping people! Not to mention he took Sierra and Quintin away. That was way too reckless.
Lewis turned and walked out. "It's not him. It's not yet the point of no return. He wouldn't be that foolish."
"Then who is it?"
"We'll find out soon."
Lewis returned to his car. This time, he drove himself and left Conrad alone.
Conrad looked around. He seized one of the bodyguard's cars and quickly caught up with Lewis.
Two men grabbed Josephine. She was terrified when she saw the masks on their faces.
"Who are you people?"
Nobody responded.
Several people were hunting them down, and Avery was among them. She rode a motorcycle and skillfully outmaneuvered the guards. She got as close as less than three feet to the kidnappers' car.
Quintin sat behind her and held her waist tightly. "You ... Slow down! The bike is about to take off. Are you crazy?"
Avery focused on the cars ahead and replied irritably, "Shut up! You're so noisy!"
Quintin swallowed nervously and instinctively held Avery even tighter. Even though they both had helmets, he felt like he was struggling to breathe.
