What Separates Me and You
Chapter 442 The Second Time

Michael felt nervous. He immediately reached into his pocket and pulled out a gun. Then, he dragged Josephine out of the car. Josephine's eyelids drooped. She seemed sleepy and struggled to stand steadily.

She stood on her feet and relied heavily on Michael for support.

"Hey, what's wrong with you?" Michael tapped her cheek with the gun. This time, Josephine rested her head on his shoulder. He chuckled in exasperation. "I can't believe you can fall asleep in such a situation. It seems like you really trust Lewis, huh?" Josephine didn't respond. Her breath was weak, and if it weren't for Michael holding her, she might have collapsed.

Soon, the MPV approached them and stopped just a few steps away.

Lewis was alone. He exited the car and stood before his vehicle. Then, he said, "I've brought the money. Release her."

Michael glanced at his car but didn't let go of Josephine. "I want to see the money first!"

Lewis tilted his head slightly and indicated for Michael to check.

Michael gestured to the two masked men, and they quickly walked over to open the trunk. Inside were rows of silver briefcases filled with cash. The backseats were almost filled with money, except for the two front seats,

They opened the cases and inspected the cash inside. Even the two masked men felt excited upon seeing the stacks of money.

Indeed, it felt different to see so much money before them.

They stared at the 50 million. They couldn't believe their fortune. It was so easy to make money!

Michael seemed excited too. The most money he had ever seen in his life was 500 thousand. He had never seen such a huge amount before. Lewis asked, "Can you release her now?"

Michael snapped out of his excitement and tightened his grip on Josephine. He said, "Not yet. If I let her go, I won't be able to escape." Lewis sneered, "I came alone. What are you afraid of?"

"Who knows if you've arranged backup hiding in the shadows?"

Lewis' eyes darkened. He responded coldly, "Michael, I repeat myself. Release her, or face the consequences."

His tone was laced with clear murderous intent. It sent shivers down Michael's spine.

Michael looked around, but he couldn't see anyone. However, Lewis' calm demeanor suggested he must have prepared some backup.

"So, you did arrange backup. In that case, I can't let go of Josephine." Michael suddenly pointed his gun at Lewis. "Step back!"

Lewis narrowed his eyes but remained still.

Michael was furious. He roared, "I said step back! Do you hear me? If you don't move, I'll shoot!"

Michael became increasingly agitated. His grip on Josephine's neck tightened. He was making it difficult for her to breathe. Josephine struggled to open her eyes, but her vision was blurry.

Lewis frowned at the sight.

Michael's hand holding the gun was shaking erratically. He looked like he was about to go crazy.

Lewis' behavior had triggered him. The more composed Lewis appeared, the more nervous and frightened Michael became. Under such intense mental strain, he started to lose control.

"Step back!" Michael roared. He had lost all patience.

His finger was on the trigger.

He glared fiercely at Lewis.

Then, he finally pulled it.

Josephine heard a loud bang near her ear, and she felt a hot liquid splatter on her face.

The scent of blood quickly filled her nostrils.

Josephine's eyes widened as she looked toward Lewis.

He stood there unscathed.

A gust of wind blew, and his coat billowed in the breeze.

Josephine turned to look at Michael.

Michael maintained his posture of holding the gun. His left hand was still gripping her neck. The fear and anger on his face had not yet faded. Disbelief and despair filled his wide-opened eyes.

There was a bullet hole in Michael's neck, and blood was gushing out.

The surrounding masked men panicked. They hastily reached for their weapons.

Several gunshots rang out from the jungle before they could draw their weapons. One by one, the masked men fell to the ground.

Lewis quickly approached Josephine.

Lewis' figure reflected in Michael's eyes. Then a sinister smile crept onto his face.

Michael tightened his grip on Josephine's neck with his last ounce of strength and stepped backward.

Lewis' eyes narrowed.

He rushed forward and reached out to grab Josephine, but his fingers only brushed against her arm.

Lewis watched as Josephine fell off the cliff with Michael.

"Josephine!"

Almost at the same time, Lewis also jumped off the cliff.

"Chairman Alvarez!"

"Mr. Lewis!"

Conrad and the others rushed out of the woods and witnessed Lewis jumping off the cliff.

By the time they reached the cliff's edge, Lewis had already disappeared from sight.

Seth looked down with a flashlight, but it was pitch black below. They could see nothing.

"This is the second time." Seth suddenly blurted.

Conrad turned to look at Seth. "What do you mean?"

Seth's expression was difficult to read. His brows were deeply furrowed.

It was the second time Lewis had fearlessly risked his life for Josephine.

No, to be precise, it was the third time.

The last time was on the ship when he unhesitatingly blocked a knife for Josephine.

Seth chuckled meaningfully with that thought in mind. "This guy says he doesn't like that mute, but every time it's a life or death situation, his eyes are only on Josephine."

He never once cared about his own life and death.

Conrad was slightly stunned. He sensed something and looked somewhat surprised.

Indeed, on several occasions, Lewis seemed to value Josephine's life more than his own.

Yet why did he refuse to admit his feelings?

"Will they be alright?"

"Who knows?" Seth walked away from the cliff. "We'll find out when we get down there."

Meanwhile, Josephine was still falling downward.

The wind whistled past her ears, and above her was a sky full of stars and a round moon.

She saw someone rushing towards her. She thought the scene felt so familiar.

Amidst the swaying tree shadows, various scenes kept flashing before her eyes.

She looked at the figure above, who was blocking the moonlight. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

Slowly, she reached out her hand, and the person above extended his.

Their hands could not touch each other, even though they were only two feet apart.

The mountain wind howled, and the wind that blew past obscured her vision.

The three fell rapidly. They crashed into tree branches before heavily hitting the ground.

Since Michael was behind her, he cushioned Josephine's fall. Yet, she still felt like her internal organs were about to shatter.

Her vision darkened, and a surge of blood rushed up her chest.

After landing, she didn't stop and continued rolling down the slope. Everything was spinning around her.

She didn't know how long she rolled for. Soon, dizziness overwhelmed her, and she lost consciousness.

Yet before losing consciousness, she saw Lewis. He had jumped down with her. Lewis grabbed onto a branch.

The tremendous force broke the branch, and Lewis fell to the ground.

After rolling on the ground once, he let go of the branch and rushed to Josephine.

He then tightly embraced and protected her as they continued rolling downward together.
