What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 441 Will You Deceive Me?
Lewis calmly responded, "Do you have any other options right now? Release Josephine, and we part ways peacefully. But there will be no escape for you if you harm her."
Michael's heart wavered when he heard Lewis' words. He began hesitating.
Lewis remained patient. He stood still and waited for Michael to make a choice.
The car's headlights behind him were glaring. It cast shadows on both sides of him. Although he blocked most of the light, it still made it difficult for Josephine to open her eyes.
She couldn't see Lewis' expression clearly.
Yet Lewis could see both her and Michael.
Michael asked again, "Are you really going to let me go?"
"I don't want to repeat myself. Have you made your decision?"
Michael was still hesitant. As he was still unsure of what to do, one of his masked companions leaned close and whispered in his ear.
"Don't trust him. Lewis is a ruthless, vengeful, and unforgiving person. Once you release the hostage, we'll all end up dead here."
Michael's face fell, and he looked sharply at Lewis.
"Are you trying to deceive me?"
Lewis narrowed his eyes. His gaze shifted towards the masked individual.
"So, I guess there's nothing left to talk about."
Michael sneered, "I don't believe you unless you bring fifty million in cash right now!"
"Michael, are you really going to keep making the wrong choices?"
"Enough talk. Bring the money, or there's nothing to discuss."
He grabbed Josephine and said, "Let's go. Get in the car."
Michael pushed Josephine back into the car. He vigilantly stared at Lewis before getting into the car himself.
"Lewis, you better come alone with the money. Anyway, I'm dead either way. I wouldn't mind taking your wife down with me!"
Once everybody was in the car, the driver started the engine. Soon, the Volkswagen disappeared from Lewis' view.
Conrad rushed forward and asked worriedly, "Chairman Alvarez, what do we do now?"
Lewis stared straight ahead until the car's taillights disappeared. Only then did he retract his gaze.
"Get the money."
"What?" Conrad was conflicted. "Chairman Alvarez, if we give them the money, they'll likely use Mrs. Alvarez as a hostage to escape. What will we do then?"
What if Michael changed his mind and killed Josephine once he was out of danger?
"I said, get the money." Lewis turned to look at Conrad. His cold gaze startled him.
Conrad rubbed his nose. He dared not get another word out and quickly called for someone to bring the money here.
Lewis entered his car and lit a cigarette in frustration.
After about fifteen minutes, Conrad returned and said, "I've given the order. It should take about forty minutes for Phineas to bring the money." "Also, Quintin and Avery fell into the river under the overpass. The news reached the Fowler family and the Green family. They've been calling me to ask what happened."
Lewis extended his finger out of the window and flicked the cigarette ash. "Are they dead?"
Conrad wiped the cold sweat off his forehead. "I guess not."
He analyzed and said, "When they got thrown off, Michael's car was also driving at high speed, so the impact might not have been too severe. But I'm not sure about the height they fell from ..."
Conrad estimated the height they fell from. He wondered if the two would get smashed to pieces after falling from such a height.
Lewis remained silent. He was lost in his thoughts.
He gazed at the asphalt road ahead.
Conrad continued, "But don't worry, Mr. Tyler has gone to look for them with his men. They should be safe."
He kept chattering, and Lewis smoked several more cigarettes without saying a word.
Forty minutes later, an extended MPV arrived and stopped nearby.
Seth stepped out.
He slammed the car door and approached Lewis. Seth bent over and looked inside the car. "Chairman Alvarez, I brought the money." Lewis glanced at him sideways.
Seth chuckled, "How did all of this happen? I can't believe Michael kidnapped Josephine."
"I'm the one who should be asking you this."
Lewis pushed open the car door and stepped out. He stood before Seth and stared at him coldly.
Seth maintained a faint smile. He was unfazed and met Lewis' gaze directly. "What does it have to do with me?"
Lewis said, "Seth, you always think you're clever."
The smile at the corners of Seth's mouth faded slightly.
"You think you have the power to manipulate the situation between me and Kiran. You're always trying to see us both suffer."
A cold smirk appeared on Lewis' face. "Do you have the guts to say it's not your fault? No wonder you can't admit who you are to her. You seem to know that your actions are despicable."
Seth's smile completely disappeared. There was no trace of amusement on his face anymore.
He didn't deny what Lewis said. The things he did somehow implicated Josephine. What was worse, he had once kidnapped her and committed unforgivable acts against her.
"Lewis, you're no better than me in any way," Seth said, "Don't waste time. Let's go rescue her."
Lewis stopped arguing with him and climbed into the MPV.
Seth followed suit.
They drove along the asphalt road. There was no fork in this road, so Michael wouldn't have anywhere else to go.
Eventually, they reached the end of the road, where there was a cliff and a slope below. However, the darkness prevented them from seeing the exact situation below.
They couldn't go down, so they had to park the car by the roadside.
Michael paced back and forth restlessly. "Do you think Lewis will bring the money?"
"Rest assured. He will definitely bring the money. He won't abandon Josephine."
Michael couldn't calm down. "Even if he brings the money, how can we escape?"
"We have the hostage with us. They won't dare to act recklessly. Besides, he will come alone, and there are so many of us here. Not to mention you have a gun. At worst, just shoot him."
Upon hearing that, Michael widened her eyes. He stared at the masked man beside him with a bewildered gaze.
"Are you sure you're that bold?"
He had casually hired this man for a few thousand dollars, yet he seemed so fearless.
The masked man replied, "Things have come to this point. What other choice do we have? We can't just go down without a fight, right?"
Michael felt agitated. He ran his fingers through his hair and said, "But once we have the money, where do we go? How do we escape from Elysium?" "I've already made arrangements. Don't worry. Someone will pick us up when the time comes."
Michael couldn't help but look at him again. Suspicion rose in his eyes.
"Who are you? Are you working for Kiran?"
The masked man didn't answer his question. Instead, he looked up at a distance, where the faint lights were visible through the trees. "He's coming." Michael couldn't dwell on the masked man's identity anymore. He raised his head and indeed saw car headlights piercing through the woods. The cars were approaching their location.
