What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 451 A Dream Beyond Her Reach
Tyler glanced at Lewis as he spoke.
Naturally, Lewis wouldn't answer his question.
Josephine nodded in response. Then, she asked with concern, "When will Avery wake up?"
Tyler sighed and shook his head. "I don't know. Should be anytime soon."
Although Avery was seriously injured, it wasn't critical. Otherwise, she would be in the intensive care unit.
"It's all my fault." Josephine lowered her gaze and looked at the unconscious Avery. Her sense of guilt was growing stronger.
Avery had been in danger several times because of her. Yet she still treated her as a friend. Josephine didn't know how to repay this friendship.
Tyler comforted her, "You don't have to blame yourself. Avery won't blame you. To have a friend willing to risk their life for you is rare and fortunate. "After all, it's hard to find a friend who would sacrifice everything for you. If she's willing to do that, it means you're worth it."
Stunned, Josephine looked up at Tyler. His words only made her feel more sorrowful.
She didn't believe she was worth it.
She had let Avery down so many times, and she felt unworthy of the sincerity Avery showed her.
Tyler continued, "Wouldn't you do the same if your roles were reversed?"
Josephine struggled to hold back her tears. Although she didn't answer Tyler's question, the answer was a definite yes.
"If that's the case, then you are worthy. So, stop overthinking it. When Avery wakes up and knows you've regained your memory, she'll be thrilled."
Josephine looked at him in surprise. She didn't expect Tyler would comfort her instead of blaming her.
Avery was hurt. Tyler's words made Josephine feel like she was being overly dramatic.
Josephine held back her tears and forced a smile at Tyler. "I understand. Can I stay here with Avery for a while?"
Although she was talking to Tyler, it was actually directed at Lewis.
Tyler smiled and said, "Of course."
Josephine pulled a chair and sat down next to Avery.
The room suddenly quieted down. Tyler seemed a bit uncomfortable sitting there. He stood up and said, "Lewis, can we have a word?"
Lewis glanced at him. Then, he stood up and followed Tyler out of the room.
After they left, Josephine's tense heart finally relaxed a bit. She held Avery's hand.
"Avery, please get better soon. I'm still waiting for you to take me on a trip. I haven't been to the places you went to."
Josephine had fantasized about traveling the world with Avery. She even dreamed about it. However, it was a dream beyond her reach.
Avery lay there in a quiet slumber. She didn't respond to Josephine's words.
Josephine sat by her side, just like how Avery used to accompany her.
Outside, Tyler and Lewis arrived at the staircase. They both lit up a cigarette.
Tyler noticed the bandages on Lewis' hand and couldn't help asking, "Are you really okay?"
"What do you want to say?"
Tyler didn't respond right away. "It's nothing. I just want to thank you for helping me find Avery. And I wanted to apologize to you about what happened before this."
With a cigarette between his fingers, Lewis leaned against the wall and glanced at him indifferently. "Why bother saying all this?" "We've known each other for years, and I genuinely considered you a friend. I don't want certain interests to affect our friendship." Lewis chuckled upon hearing these words, "Is that so? I actually think genuine emotions are revealed only when interests are involved." Tyler was momentarily stunned. Then, he flashed Lewis a bitter smile. "You're right, and I'm really sorry about that."
"I've already told you there's no need to apologize. You did the right thing."
Tyler shook his head. "From a practical standpoint, perhaps I was right, but from an emotional perspective, I made a mistake."
It wasn't necessarily about providing practical help. At least Tyler could have given Lewis some emotional support, even if no practical help could be given.
Lewis said, "It's pointless to discuss this now. Instead of dwelling on this, you should think about how to explain this to your father."
Tyler started to feel a headache thinking about it. His family would eventually find out the truth if Avery didn't go home for days. He couldn't imagine what would happen if his father learned that it was related to Lewis.
He nodded, saying, "I understand. I'll handle this matter."
Lewis dropped his cigarette on the ground, crushed it, and walked past Tyler toward the ward.
Suddenly, someone called out to him from behind. "Mr. Alvarez?"
Lewis' steps paused, and he turned around. It was Sierra's mother.
Sierra's mother was excited to see him. She hurriedly walked over to him.
"Mr. Alvarez, I finally get to meet you. You ..." Sierra's mother seemed a bit flustered. She nervously held onto her clothes. She struggled to find the right words.
Lewis waited a few seconds. Since Sierra's mother didn't respond, he continued, "What's the matter?"
Sierra's mother looked at Lewis pleadingly and said, "Could you please go and check on Sierra?"
Lewis remained silent.
Sierra's mother continued, "She can't walk right now and insists on leaving the hospital every day to find you. She isn't cooperating with the doctors' treatment. I'm worried something might happen to her if this continues. Please talk to Sierra for me."
After saying that, she looked at Lewis anxiously. Her eyes were filled with entreaty.
Silence filled the hallway. Suddenly, Lewis turned and walked away.
However, he bypassed Avery's ward and headed deeper into the corridor toward Sierra's room.
Sierra's mother's face lit up. She quickly followed after him.
Upon reaching Sierra's room, they could hear Sierra's voice before even entering.
"Go away! I won't eat it. Just let me die already!" Along with her voice, there was also the sound of something being knocked around.
Lewis pushed the door open, and a bowl shattered at his foot.
Sierra's father was still trying to persuade her. As Sierra lifted her head, she saw the tall figure at the doorway.
As usual, he wore a suit and stood straight. His handsome face was as indifferent as ever, and his deep, jet-black eyes showed no emotion.
Sierra couldn't recall when she had last seen him. Yet every time she laid eyes on him, he looked alluring and charming, just like always. Sierra could never get enough of him.
Sierra paused momentarily, then joyfully exclaimed, "Lewis, you're here!"
Lewis stood at the doorway for a while. Then, he carefully stepped over the broken pieces on the floor and approached Sierra.
Her gaze remained fixed on him as he moved toward her. It was as if she feared he might disappear in the blink of an eye.
"Lewis, I've been suffering so much. Why haven't you come to visit me?" Sierra looked at him with teary eyes. She tried to act cute, but her strained voice didn't sound quite pleasant.
