What Separates Me and You
Chapter 452 Unpin

Sierra hadn't looked at her current self in the mirror. She didn't know that bandage covered every inch of her face. Only her eyes and the region near her mouth were exposed, so no one could see her expression.

"What's all this about?" Lewis looked around the room. Everything was a mess. Broken shards and fruits littered the floor.

Sierra leaned against the head of the bed and looked at him pitifully. She reached out to grab his sleeve. "I thought you despised me and decided to ignore me. If even you leave my side when I'm in this state, what point is there in me living?"

Sierra's parents were right beside her when she said that. She didn't consider how they would feel upon hearing that. She only had eyes for Lewis. Her parents heard her and couldn't hold back their tears.

"Lewis, are you disgusted at my hideous looks and how I'm bedridden?" Sierra laughed mockingly at herself after she said that. She continued, "I mean, who wouldn't? Just look at me."

Lewis fell silent momentarily after listening to her. Then, he asked, "Have you been refusing to eat because of this?"

Sierra said hoarsely, "I don't even want to live anymore. Why should I care about eating?"

Lewis' brows knitted. "Well, I don't have a reason to be here anymore."

He turned to leave, but Sierra quickly held onto him. "Don't leave!" She looked at her parents and said, "You both can wait outside. I have something to say to Lewis."

Her parents hesitated but eventually left the ward.

When the door was shut, Lewis asked, "What is it?"

Sierra said, "My parents told me you were running a background check on me. They also told me I'm not their biological daughter. Lewis, can you tell me who my biological parents are?"

Sierra looked earnest. She desired to know who her birth parents were.

"Do you really want to know?"

Sierra nodded. "Of course! They are my parents, after all!" Sensing the change in Lewis' eyes, Sierra added, "I-I just want to ask them face-to-face why they abandoned me in the first place."

Lewis replied, "You can ask Ms. King."

"Ms. King?" Sierra naturally knew Sophia from her days as an employee at Alvarez Corp, and Sophia was also the first person to come to mind. "You mean Sophia King?"

"That's right."

"Why should I go to her?" Sierra was puzzled.

Lewis answered, "She was the one who donated her blood to you when you were in a critical condition. Besides, the DNA results showed a 30 percent correlation between you both. Do you get it now?"

Sierra stared at him in shock.

What Lewis just said implied she and Sophia were biological sisters. She stuttered, "W-Why wouldn't she come to me if she was my sister?" "That's a question for you to answer."

Sierra heard a constant buzz in her head. She had zero understanding of Sophia's family and had no idea where she currently lived.

They weren't exactly best friends when she worked at Alvarez Corp; in fact, they were on bad terms with each other. It made sense that Sophia wouldn't want to acknowledge her as her sister.

Lewis bid her goodbye, "Take care. I'll be leaving."

Sierra snapped back to her senses and held his hand again. "Can't you stay a bit longer?"

"I've matters to attend to." Lewis shoved her hand away and ruthlessly turned to leave.

Sierra stared after him as her fingers curled into a tight fist.

Wasn't he going to show her even an ounce of concern now she was in this state? And he was the cause of her plight too...

She burst out crying when the door clicked shut. A surge of anger and resentment welled up in her. Her emotions tinged her eyes red.

Lewis returned to Avery's ward after leaving Sierra's room.

Josephine was wiping Avery's face properly, unlike how she took care of Lewis-once forcefully extracting his IV tube and next almost smothering him.

Tyler was nowhere to be seen, and only Josephine was in the ward.

Josephine turned to look when she heard footsteps. When she saw it was Lewis, she continued wiping Avery's hands. After that, she brought the basin to the toilet. She came out after a while.

Lewis said, "Let's go."

Josephine habitually raised her hand to sign but put them down again before saying, "I want to stay a bit longer."

"You've stayed long enough," Lewis replied. She knew that meant disagreement.

Josephine pressed her lips together and fell silent. Still, she walked toward him. She was afraid she wouldn't be able to visit Avery if she irked Lewis. Lewis held her hand and led her out of the ward. They headed for the elevator. Halfway there, Josephine suddenly stopped and looked at Lewis. She wanted to visit Quintin too.

Lewis rejected her before she could say it, "No."

Josephine frowned. How could he know what she was about to say? Could anyone read her like an open book?

However, Josephine stood her ground and tried to negotiate. "I'll take only a peek."

"I said no." Lewis was unrelenting. He tugged her toward the elevator.

Josephine was cross, but Lewis looked even more so. He walked with quick, long strides while Josephine stumbled as she followed him. She had to jog to keep up with him.

After leaving the hospital, Lewis shoved her into the passenger seat and took the wheel.

It was a quiet journey. No one spoke. Josephine found her phone in her pocket and pulled it out. It was the one she had been using, and all her data were still in there.

She opened her Whatsapp and saw a pinned conversation-it was Lewis'. She immediately long-pressed the chatbox and unpinned it.

She remembered how infatuated she had been with him. Now, she would like nothing better than to slap herself awake and then reflect on her lovesickness before her parents' grave for a week.

She loved him, no doubt. However, at this moment, the grudge they had between them weighed more than the feelings she had toward him. Guilt toward her family and others who had died for nothing washed over her whenever she felt the slightest hint of adoration for Lewis. It was many more times agonizing than the times when Lewis hurt her or neglected her.

She didn't know what Lewis thought of her. Anyway, he had always been eager to show he wasn't in love with her through his words and actions up till now. Why would he go to such extremes if he was unaware of the wall between them?

He must've known. That was why he would never express his love for her, despite being willing to risk his life for her.

That was his way of preserving his dignity and pride after foreseeing that nothing would work out between them. She was unsure if she should ridicule him or pity him at this point.

She stared at the chatbox in a daze and noticed his profile picture. He had changed it back into the grey photo-the one with the bears. Josephine knew what was on it but lacked the courage to click it.

Soon, they reached Styx Mansion. Josephine was still in a daze. Lewis looked at her and spotted his profile picture on her phone.
