What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 462 Stand on Her Own Two Feet
Yona folded her arms and leaned against the door. She looked at them calmly. "No reason. I just don't like her."
Josephine frowned. They had just met for the first time. Why was Yona so hostile toward her?
She had no idea how Yona's mind worked.
Yet, Yona had already deemed Josephine a threat-not just to her role on the team, but also to her scheme to seduce Lewis.
After all, no one had seen Sierra for a long time. They could have broken up for all they knew. Her chance had come.
Sierra's admittance to the hospital was kept a secret. No one knew what had happened.
Yona, of course, didn't know about that either. She thought there was a great chance that Lewis and Sierra had broken up since Sierra was still absent as days passed.
Who knew if Lewis had decided to neglect her?
As that thought crossed her mind, Yona grew more determined. She looked at Wendy again, "That's all I have to say. Think about it."
"Yo-" Before Wendy could finish her sentence, the door closed with a bang.
Josephine and Wendy stared at each other.
Josephine was bewildered. She didn't expect to encounter such an issue on her first day of work.
She pressed her lips together. She was about to say something when Wendy broke the silence. "Let her be. Let's get back to the others."
Josephine was silent. She followed Wendy down and finally said, "It's okay. You should go and tell her I'll resign."
It wasn't a big deal to Josephine. Besides, she didn't think Nicolas would hold up their work progress just because of her, a newbie.
Why should she land herself in an awkward situation by returning to the others?
Wendy grabbed her hand. "Ignore her. Let's go back. It's not her first time acting out, anyway. Ever since becoming popular, she had been inciting all sorts of trouble daily. She's trying to get the management to break off the contract.
"Mr. Lager dislikes her too. So let's go back to Mr. Lager and tell him what happened. It's not your fault."
Josephine thought about it. Upon seeing the righteous look in Wendy's eyes, she felt touched and nodded. She decided to return with Wendy.
Wendy rambled on about Yona along the way. The management wouldn't discontinue the contract with Yona. They would hold out until the contract expired.
Yona wasn't very smart. She openly challenged the management, even though her contract had three more years. They could always figure out a plan to exhaust her fame if she kept that up.
After rejoining the group, Wendy told Nicolas about what had happened. Nicolas' face turned red with anger.
"The whole village is waiting for her, yet she refuses to come on a whim! Does she really think she's a big name now? She thinks our team revolves around her, huh?" Nicolas snapped.
No one dared to speak in the face of Nicolas' wrath.
Wendy gathered her courage and asked, "What should we do?"
Nicolas snorted. "She thinks we'll have to stop the shoot without her, right? Let her be. We'll proceed."
"But how?"
Nicolas scanned his surroundings. His gaze fell on Wendy's face. "Why don't you take her place?"
Wendy was stunned. Almost immediately, she smiled sheepishly. "Mr. Lager, you're kidding, right? I can't replace her. Besides, it's not up to us to switch her out."
Nicolas huffed, "The previous series has been completed anyway. It's common to use someone new for a new series. As for Mr. Connor, there's nothing to worry about. I'll talk to him."
Wendy waved her hands in disagreement. "No, that won't do, Mr. Lager. Look at me. I'm not even half as pretty as Yona. Besides, she has so many fans. They won't put up with someone who can't crush Yona in every aspect."
Nicolas thought about what she said. Wendy had a valid point. He kept scanning the crowd, his eyes moving past Josephine. But he suddenly halted and looked back at her.
Josephine froze. She had a bad feeling about this.
Nicolas sized her up. Suddenly, he smiled and pointed the script he held at her. "You. Come here."
"Uh..." Josephine understood what he meant and immediately waved her hands. "No, no. I haven't acted before. I'm bad at acting."
"We're filming a mini-series, not a drama. Acting skills aren't essential."
Nicolas slapped the script in her hand. "This is the script. Read it. The first chapter should suffice. You only have to remember the storyline."
Josephine wanted to decline, but Nicolas had already left to give out instructions to the others.
She was in a daze. She was only a trainee and a runner, no?
Wendy smiled as she patted her shoulder. "All the best, Josephine. I'm rooting for you."
"I really can't." Josephine was in a dilemma.
"Of course, you can. Believe in yourself. You don't need much acting skills for this. Just do the bare minimum. Besides, read my script. It really suits you. You may even rise to fame, given the number of followers on this account."
"But-"
"Come on. No more buts. Just read it and come to me if there's anything you don't understand. We don't have much time. Hurry up and remember the content."
Seeing there was no way out of this, Josephine sighed and bit the bullet. Taking the script, she sat in one corner and started reading.
The script for the mini-series was short. It only had 2000 words. She had less than 50 lines of dialogue overall. It wasn't too difficult to remember. The tricky part was to understand the content and play her role.
"It's alright. Don't be nervous. I believe you've seen our videos before. You don't need outstanding performing skills for it."
Josephine turned in the direction of the voice. It was Yona's partner, Jay.
He was smarter than Yona. He never went up against the management openly. Yona and Jay both attended performing arts school. They were amateurish compared to professional actors. Yet, they weren't totally inept.
They depended greatly on the team to curate their images and design their scripts for their road to fame. To top that off, they both had good looks. That was how they came to be.
Without the team, they were nothing. They could still be two of the many extras on a set somewhere.
Josephine nodded and continued reading.
Lewis stood beside the window in his office. He had already finished several cigarettes. He cast the cigarette butts aside and called Conrad. Conrad appeared in his office in the blink of an eye. "Sir."
"Which department did you assign her to?"
Conrad answered honestly, "The new media management department, or new media for short."
"What does it do?"
Conrad was speechless. "The marketing department proposed its establishment two years ago. It's to build up the online market. Have you forgotten?"
Lewis frowned and said thoughtfully, "That's quite far."
Conrad's lips twitched. He exclaimed inwardly, "She's just a block behind. How can a few more steps be considered far?"
"Sir, it's not that far."
Lewis stroked his watch and said in an indiscernible tone, "Looks like she's determined to stand on her own two feet."
"She's an adult, you know..." mumbled Conrad.
Lewis promptly stood and strode out of his office. Conrad hurriedly caught up with him.
Meanwhile, Yona grew worried when she didn't receive any calls from Nicolas after so long. After giving it some thought, she decided to give in and go to the set.
Then, she hailed a cab. She had just arrived when a black Maybach sped in the same direction and stopped right before her cab.
