What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 461 She Can't Have Wronged You
Owen's suggestion sat well with Josephine.
The photography team comprised not one but eight smaller teams.
Two of the more popular content creators under the company had more than ten million followers. They each had a specific photography team assigned to them.
The remaining six teams were in charge of around four to five content creators each. The work was both demanding and exhausting.
"Nic, she's a newbie. I'll leave her under your care."
Nicolas Lager was the team leader of Team 3, the team Owen assigned Josephine to. He simply hummed to acknowledge Josephine's presence. Then, he went back to reading his script.
There were 15 people on this team. Although it had few members, it was a complete package of a screenwriter, director, lighting designer, stylist, and so on. However, they were too busy to entertain Josephine.
No one talked to her even after ten minutes. She thought it over and approached Nicolas, "Mr. Lager, is there anything I can do?"
Nicolas glanced at her and answered, "Just wait. We're about to film something soon. You can help move those props over later."
Josephine nodded and waited quietly.
Her team members were as busy as bees.
This team was assigned to one of the two popular content creators, which was a duo. Their content mainly featured romance mini-series with them playing roles as a couple.
Josephine learned more about them as she stood, waiting.
This particular influencer couple started out as rookies here. The department provided them with the resources needed to gain fame. Now that they were popular, they were inclined to leave the company and work on their own.
However, they couldn't leave just like that because of their contract. So they did everything they could to make life hard for everyone within the constraints of their contract.
These influencers were more difficult than celebrities.
Just this month, Lewis invested in two celebrity management companies. Lewis even started an entertainment company under Moss Corporation. Because of that, the said influencer couple wanted to change their contracts. They wanted to sign up as celebrities.
Furthermore, they had the strongest aspirations of achieving what they desired among others. Therefore, they started acting out even before their debut.
Josephine waited approximately an hour before her team got started. She heeded Nicolas' instructions and carried the required props to the van. The props were heavy. In her condition, she had to stop and gasp for breath every few steps.
The others were way ahead of her. Nicolas looked back and noticed she was lagging. He marched over and scolded her, "Can't you even carry something like this? What are you here for?"
After getting an earful, Josephine felt guilty and apologized, "I'm sorry."
"What the hell was Owen thinking? Can't he see I'm working my ass off? Yet he passed a rookie to me."
Josephine pressed her lips together and heaved the props a bit higher.
Nicolas looked at her in frustration. "Keep up! Put in some effort, or just get the hell out of here!"
With that, Nicolas left.
Pressing her lips together, Josephine followed with the props in her arms. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead. She was physically too weak. At that moment, the weight in her arms lessened.
"Let me help you."
Stunned, Josephine turned to see a young woman.
She smiled at Josephine. "Let's go."
The woman looked young and was probably in her 20s. She was fair and looked neat. Although she wasn't remarkably pretty, she looked friendly. "Thank you." Josephine cast her an appreciative glance. They walked toward the parking lot, carrying the props together.
"You're welcome. I'm the screenwriter for this team. My name is Wendy Xander. You probably don't know Team 3 well since it's your first day here. Mr. Lager may look fierce, but he's kind. You'll see. Our team is harmonious and has great teamwork. We aren't as tense as the other teams."
Josephine's smile broadened at Wendy's words. She hummed in acknowledgment. "Okay."
Although she received a scolding from Nicolas, Josephine felt herself brimming with life for once. She hadn't socialized with others in a long time. Every day, she would only see Lewis, Mrs. Larson, and Dr. Halliday. The resulting emptiness drained her enthusiasm for life. She always thought life was meaningless and mundane.
But now, could she finally lead an ordinary life like a normal person?
While pondering that, a truly sincere smile graced her face for the first time in days. Even the props' seemed lighter than before.
She carried the props to the van with the help of Wendy. Nicolas checked his watch and looked back. "Aren't Jay and Yona here yet?"
Jay Keller and Yona Miller were the content creators they were supposed to be in charge of. They were a popular influencer couple with almost ten million followers.
Wendy said, "I guess they haven't left home. I'll go and take a look. You guys go on ahead. I'll meet you on the set."
"Go with her." Nicolas glanced at Josephine. "You're not much help here anyway."
"Sure," answered Josephine.
Wendy sighed. Nicolas was in a foul mood today, so she dared not test his patience. She led Josephine out of the office and hailed a cab to where Yona stayed.
It wasn't very far. They arrived within 10 minutes.
The influencer couple lived in the dorm the company arranged for them. It was located in a high-end residential area.
Wendy went to Yona's house. She rang the doorbell, but there was still no response after some time.
"She can't be out, can she?" muttered Wendy. She pressed the doorbell again.
Moments later, the door finally opened. Yona was standing there in a spaghetti strap pajama with her eyes half-opened. "What's the matter? You're so noisy."
"Oh, it's her," thought Josephine in surprise. She had seen Yona's video before.
Yona and Jay's content was a mini-series. Yona had always portrayed the image of an innocent, adorable woman in the series. But now, the person standing before her was arrogant and rude.
Wendy patiently said, "Did you forget you must film your content today? Everyone's waiting for you."
"I told you I'm not feeling well and on sick leave. Why do you have to come?" Yona replied with annoyance. She noticed Josephine, and the look in her eyes changed. "You're new?"
Josephine nodded. "Hello, this is my first day at work. I'm Josephine Vance."
Yona looked her up and down. Josephine's looks were definitely striking. It was the kind of charm that put Yona on edge with a mere glance.
Without a doubt, their followers would skyrocket if her employer switched her out and used Josephine in her place.
Yona grew more hostile the more she looked at Josephine. "What's this? Is she a new partner that the department found for Jay?"
Josephine explained, "No. I'm just a newly hired runner."
"Is that so?" Yona didn't believe her. She had reasons to believe Josephine was here to replace her.
She was very confident of her own looks at first. She thought her looks were on par with Lewis' girlfriend's and that she could even be a good match for Lewis. That was why she was sure she wouldn't lose her job.
Before this, she was assured she could replace Sierra as Lewis' girlfriend if only Lewis laid eyes on her.
But Josephine's presence wiped out her confidence.
"Yes," said Josephine.
Yona kept her temper in check as she said, "I don't want to see you here. Wendy, tell Nicolas to fire her, or I won't continue the shoot."
Wendy was baffled. "Why? It's only her first day here. She can't have wronged you now, can she?"
