What Separates Me and You -
Chapter 474 Scaredy Cat
Josephine was somewhat surprised. Seth had finally messaged her.
She hurried to the company's entrance and found Seth's car waiting. She noticed one of Lewis' bodyguards hiding in the shadows, but she saw no need to hide herself. Opening the car door, she got in.
Clad his tuxedo, Seth was in the car with his trademark smile still playing on his lips.
"How's work been these days?"
Josephine turned to look at him, a smile tugging at her lips. "Quite fun."
"Really? I heard that the famous influencer had been looking for trouble with you. You still find it fun?"
Thinking of Yona's childish antics, Josephine couldn't help but chuckle. "Yes."
Yona's petty tactics were of no concern to Josephine. Compared to these two men, Yona's schemes were child's play.
It didn't bother her the slightest bit.
Suddenly, something crossed Josephine's mind. "By the way, why did you suddenly ask to meet me? Is it ..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but Seth understood what she was implying.
Seth shook his head. "Not yet. I'm here to give you something."
As he spoke, he retrieved an exquisite little box from the glove compartment and handed it to Josephine. "Here."
Josephine accepted the box from his hand and opened it to find a delicate pendant inside.
It was a thumb-sized hollow bronze sphere that resembled a bell. Josephine shook the bell gently in her hand. There was something inside, but it made no sound.
"What is this?"
Seth took the pendant from her hand and traced the spherical surface with his fingers. "This is a birthday gift for you."
Josephine's smile stiffened slightly. She stared at Seth in bewilderment. "My birthday?"
"Don't you remember?"
She lowered her head, realizing that she really did not remember. She had celebrated many birthdays over the years, but it was the day she entered the Alvarez family.
Looking back now, she thought those birthdays felt more like a disgrace.
Rather than being her own birthday, it was more like a day of remembrance for her parents. She had actually celebrated her birthday several times on the day of their passing.
She wondered how her parents would feel if they found out about this.
"Come here. Let me help you put it on," Seth's voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
Josephine snapped to her senses and set her sorrows aside. She leaned toward Seth.
Seth raised his hand, placed the bronze bell around her neck, and gently adjusted the loose hair near her ears.
As Josephine lifted her head, her gaze met his tender eyes. She found herself momentarily taken aback.
She realized they were less than an inch away from each other.
She could even hear his breathing.
His slightly cold fingers traced across Josephine's cheek. As their eyes met, she saw a hint of mystery in Seth's gaze.
It was as if he was looking at her yet observing someone else through her.
Was it another woman or the girl she used to be when they were younger? She couldn't quite tell.
He cradled her face and murmured, "Didn't you say you would marry me when you grew up?"
Josephine was stunned.
In a fleeting moment, their distance seemed to shorten even more. She saw Seth's face growing larger until all she could focus on were his eyes.
Suddenly jolting back to reality, she sat upright and distanced herself from him. "I should get back to work."
She attempted to open the car door but realized it was locked.
Seth's hand hung mid-air. He looked up at Josephine and smiled gently before subtly resuming his seat.
"Look how startled you are." He unlocked the car door and added casually, "You're still such a scaredy cat."
Once again, Josephine was stunned. She turned to look at him suspiciously.
His expression returned to normal, a smile gracing his lips as if he was only teasing her.
His reaction reassured Josephine, and she breathed a sigh of relief. A myriad of thoughts had raced through her mind earlier. She had even considered avoiding him in the future.
Fortunately, he claimed it was all a joke. Josephine's emotions felt like a roller coaster ride.
Upon careful reflection, she realized that since she knew Seth in the Alvarez family, he had teased or joked with her several times.
Josephine could see that he had no romantic interest in her.
Yet she was flustered earlier. She probably had been imagining things.
Embarrassed, she blushed and said, "Seth, stop teasing me like that."
Seth tilted his head slightly to look at her. Instead of answering her question, he said, "Don't remove the pendant I gifted you, alright?" Josephine lowered her head, picked up the small spherical pendant, and sniffed it. There was a faint and pleasant aroma. "What's inside this?"
"Just some herbs that will help you relax."
Josephine nodded and kept the pendant under her clothes. "Alright, I won't take it off."
Seth's gaze deepened. He stared at Josephine for a while.
Josephine felt a tingling sensation under his intense scrutiny. Suddenly, he spoke, "You can leave now."
Josephine nodded and was about to exit the car. However, before she could do so, she asked Seth, "How much longer do I have to wait?"
Seth's fingers traced the steering wheel, his gaze already fixed ahead. "It won't be much longer."
He didn't provide a definite answer. Josephine glanced at him doubtfully. After confirming that he wouldn't say more, she opened the car door and stepped out.
Seth watched her retreating figure, his smile gradually fading.
Back in the office, the filming was still in progress. Josephine walked to one of the workstations and took a seat among the extras.
The shooting went smoothly, but it was getting late. Nicholas instructed everyone to continue after having lunch.
The company had its own cafeteria, so everyone headed there for their meals.
Wendy pulled Josephine along to the cafeteria. It was Josephine's first time there, and she was surprised by its size. It could easily accommodate several hundred people.
"Do you have a meal card?" Wendy suddenly asked.
Josephine hesitated and shook her head. "No."
"Then you should get one at the logistics department in the afternoon. You'll receive a monthly subsidy of five hundred dollars on the card. You can also top it up yourself. Eating at the company cafeteria is more cost-effective."
Leading Josephine to collect the plates, Wendy continued, "You can use my meal card for today. You can take any dishes you like here."
Following Wendy, Josephine observed the variety of dishes available. They were all self-service. After choosing their dishes, they had to proceed to the exit for payment.
As she finished settling her bill, Josephine suddenly realized that Conrad hadn't delivered her medicine today.
However, it was probably for the best. She didn't want to have her medicine for every meal. Skipping one dose should be fine.
She thought things were going well until she found a seat, and Conrad's call came in.
Sighing, she answered, "I'm having lunch. Can I call you back when I'm done?"
Conrad replied, "Of course, Mrs. Alvarez. But I'm not calling to remind you about your medicine. It's ..."
"What is it?"
"Chairman Alvarez wants to see you."
