What Separates Me and You
Chapter 478 Show Me Something Interesting

Lewis glanced at her and took a lollipop from his pocket before handing it to her.

Dumbfounded, Josephine blinked and took the lollipop. "Thank you."

He stared fixedly at her. The smile at the corner of his mouth remained as bright as ever. "You're welcome."

The smile didn't seem genuine to Josephine. It felt more like it was fake.

Lewis wasn't a fool. They were at odds this morning, and now she was all gentle. Of course, he knew that she was playing weak for another purpose. However, he chose not to expose her and played along with her act.

After all, playing dumb was his strong suit.

Josephine followed suit and smiled at him.

No matter how much she pondered, she couldn't find a chance to speak her mind. She simply decided to go upstairs to sleep.

After entering the bathroom, she looked at the lollipop in her hand and casually tossed it into the trash.

Twisting the shower head open, she closed her eyes as cold water cascaded over her. The early spring weather wasn't that warm, and the cold water was particularly bone-chilling.

Touching the bell in her hand, she abruptly opened her eyes and held it in her hand.

Seth's face appeared in her mind, and she fell into a trance.

As Lewis had said, Seth wasn't exactly a good person, but he was indeed the last family she had in this world.

He was also the sole haven for her lonely and drifting heart.

No matter how evil he was, Josephine would subconsciously take his side.

Josephine was spacing out in the bathroom when a knock suddenly sounded outside.

"Josephine, are you done showering?" It was Lewis' voice.

Josephine quickly turned off the tap, grabbed a towel to wrap herself, and walked toward the door. "Yes."

She opened the door and saw Lewis leaning against the doorway. He casually gazed at her.

His gaze slowly lowered and landed on her chest.

Josephine's heart skipped a beat, and she forced a smile. "Do you want to shower?"

Lewis withdrew his gaze and looked into her eyes again. He extended his hand and brushed her messy wet hair.

"Why didn't you dry yourself before coming out?"

Josephine was stunned. Lewis walked into the bathroom and brought out a towel. He then proceeded to help her dry her hair.

Josephine stood still as he wiped her hair. His movements were deft, as he had done this countless times before. He was very adept at it.

Once Josephine's hair was mostly dry, he pulled her to sit by the bedside. Then, he took a hairdryer and started to blow-dry her hair.

It had started raining outside. The sound of raindrops pattering against the window merged with the hum of the hairdryer.

Once again, Josephine spaced out. A familiar emotion from the past resurfaced in her heart.

Instead of happiness, she only felt an indescribable sense of loneliness.

The sound of the hairdryer ceased, and the room fell quiet. The sound of the rain outside echoed in the room.

Lewis turned to leave, but Josephine quickly grabbed his sleeve.

He paused and turned back to look at her.

Josephine looked up at him and opened her mouth but couldn't find the right words.

Lewis took a step back and sat down beside her. He lifted Josephine's chin. "What's wrong? Are you scared to sleep alone?"

Josephine pursed her lips and gazed at the man for a few moments.

Suddenly, she threw herself into Lewis' embrace and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Lewis's gaze flickered, and he lowered his head to look at her.

Her messy hair obscured her face, making it difficult to see her expression clearly.

Lewis found it somewhat amusing. "What are you doing?"

Josephine raised her head and gazed at him with her cloudy eyes. After hesitating briefly, she finally spoke, "Yes, I'm scared to sleep alone."

"Is that so?"

"Mm-hmm."

Lewis stared at her. The two of them locked eyes. Lewis traced her lips with his fingers. "All cleaned?"

Josephine nodded stiffly.

With that, he leaned down and kissed her.

Gripping his collar, Josephine closed her eyes. Holding onto him, she knew what would happen if she kept him here.

So, she didn't resist.

The kiss was quite intense, almost leaving Josephine breathless. Her face turned red. The lack of air in her brain made her feel dizzy.

A sudden coolness enveloped her. She opened her eyes abruptly and caught a glimpse of Lewis tossing the towel far away.

Before Josephine could react, Lewis had already pushed her onto the bed. The man hovered over her.

His finger moved downward, as well as his lips. He kissed Josephine's neck and slowly moved further down. Clutching the bedsheet, Josephine asked, "Where is Seth?"

The ambiguous atmosphere came to an abrupt halt, and the man resting on her shoulder also stopped moving. After a brief silence, he lifted his head, meeting Josephine's eyes.

"You finally said it."

Josephine lowered her gaze to avoid his eyes. She suddenly regretted her actions.

She had forgotten that this man was Lewis. Even in such a situation, his desires wouldn't cloud his judgment.

To be precise, he already knew her purpose from the beginning. However, he decided to play along and take advantage of her before exposing her.

At this point, Josephine had no choice but to continue, "Is he still alive?"

Sneering, Lewis made her face him and forced her to meet his gaze.

"Are you willing to sacrifice so much for him? You're even willing to offer yourself to save him." He traced her face with his fingers, his tone indifferent. "How touching."

Josephine's eyes flickered.

"You know my relationship with him, so why provoke me like that?"

A cold smile tugged at Lewis' lips. "Of course, I know. You two were childhood sweethearts. He was your arranged husband and the man you've longed to marry. Too bad..."

Josephine's mouth opened slightly, but Lewis hushed her with his fingertips before she could speak.

"Are you trying to say that you two would have been a happily married couple if it weren't for me and my grandfather?"

Josephine fell silent. She chose to keep her mouth shut.

Although that wasn't what she wanted to say, it was close enough.

"Coming to think of it, he's really a patient guy. He kept himself hidden so well, not showing even the slightest trace until now."

Josephine widened her eyes. She didn't fully understand his words, but she felt somewhat uneasy.

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing. Since you're putting so much effort into this act just to learn about him, I'll give you a chance."

Josephine's gaze flickered. Before she could fully grasp his intention, Lewis had already moved away from her.

He sat on the sofa and lit a cigarette, saying, "Show me something interesting."

Josephine frowned. "What do you mean by something interesting?"

Crossing his legs, he nonchalantly replied, "Figure it out yourself. As long as it pleases me, I'll tell you."

Josephine got off the bed and stared at the man intently.

She couldn't come up with an idea.

"Can't you just tell me what you want me to do?"

Lewis glanced at her with a half-smile. His gaze sent shivers down Josephine's spine. She had a gut feeling that this wasn't some ordinary act. Suddenly, he bent down and pulled open a wooden drawer beneath the table. He then took out a wooden box and tossed it onto the bed.

The box spilled open, revealing a variety of items.

Josephine's eyes narrowed slightly.

She recognized these items all too well. They were tools Lewis had prepared before to test whether she could speak. After a few attempts, he had lost interest.

Josephine understood his intentions. He was asking her to perform using those items on her own.
