What Separates Me and You
Chapter 481 The Sun Is Shining

Seeing this, one of the bodyguards stepped forward and grabbed Josephine's phone. "Mrs. Alvarez, just a quick look. Is that alright?" Josephine was momentarily stunned. She wanted to call Lewis to scold him, not to complain.

However, since they allowed her to pass now, she couldn't be bothered to explain herself. She put her phone away, lifted her foot, and headed upstairs. "I got it. Thank you."

As they watched her go upstairs, the two bodyguards heaved a sigh of relief. They rolled up their sleeves and wiped the cold sweat from their foreheads.

If Lewis found out they allowed her to meet Quintin, they might get a beating at worst. But if she accused them of taking advantage of her, they might lose their jobs altogether.

They knew well which option was worse.

Ever since Josephine could speak, her demeanor had turned far from endearing.

Soon, Josephine arrived at Quintin's ward. The door was open, but she didn't go in. She didn't want to make things too difficult for those two guards.

She stood at the doorway and glanced inside. Quintin and Avery were playing cards with a third person she didn't recognize. She assumed that person must be a nurse.

Quintin seemed to be recovering well. He wore a neck brace and had a leg and an arm in casts.

Their movements seemed stiff, like zombies.

"Another win. Sorry about that. Let me see, where should I draw this time?" Avery had both her hands in casts. She held a pen between two fingers, but her movements were limited.

She turned to the nurse beside her and said, "Can you help me?"

The nurse lifted Avery's arm, holding it at a height that allowed her to reach Quintin's face.

Quintin looked exasperated. "That's enough. You're turning my face into a canvas!"

With a mischievous grin, Avery continued drawing. "Well, blame it on your lack of skill. Not to be rude, but with your abilities, how did you manage to get married to Josephine? Gosh ..."

"Wait. What do you mean?"

"I'm just lamenting that she has terrible taste. She can't judge men properly. She got it wrong twice."

Quintin retorted, "You're talking nonsense. What's wrong with me? I'm way better than that Lewis bastard! Look at you. No wonder you're not married yet. You have no taste!"

They were openly referring to Lewis as a bastard. It was simple and direct.

Upon hearing the last sentence, Avery suddenly pressed down on the pen, causing Quintin to yelp in pain.

"What are you doing? I'm bleeding!"

"You're not that delicate! You're not bleeding. Tough it out!"

"You are so cruel."

Avery chuckled, "Sure, sure. Unlike you, such a delicate and kind-hearted little boy. Can you not move? Just one more stroke to go."

Quintin swatted her hand away angrily. "Who's a delicate little boy? Stop making stuff up. I'm a tough man!"

"Wow, getting angry, huh? Weren't you the one crying earlier?"

Quintin blinked, his face suddenly turning red. "That was because I was in pain. How many times do I have to say it? It's physiological tears! I don't believe you didn't cry either!"

"Oh, you think I'm you? I definitely didn't cry."

As she watched them having such a joyful time in the hospital room, Josephine silently turned and left.

As long as they were okay, she felt relieved.

She knew she would never fully fit into their world and have a happy time together as long as Lewis was here.

Only by keeping distance from them could they truly enjoy their lives.

They wouldn't be lying here like this if it weren't for her.

Josephine headed downstairs. A thought flashed across her mind, and she suddenly turned to look down the hallway.

Her gaze settled on Sierra's room.

The two bodyguards exchanged a glance and called out with concern, "Mrs. Alvarez."

Josephine averted her eyes. "Let's go."

She understood they were worried she might upset Sierra. Lewis might have found out about her eavesdropping outside Sierra's room last time. That was why the bodyguards were acting so nervous.

Lewis was so protective over Sierra.

She wouldn't visit her. Even if she did, she wouldn't know what to say.

After all, Lewis dated Sierra before marrying her.

On the way back, Josephine's phone buzzed.

She took out her phone and saw the contact's name. Instantly, she sat straight up.

It was a text from Seth.

"Don't worry. I'm fine. I just arrived in Strouburg."

Josephine's heart tightened. She quickly typed, "What happened? Why are you in Strouburg?"

Seth replied, "Chairman Alvarez sent me here to take over the company."

Josephine was well aware that it was about yesterday's incident. That must be why Lewis had dispatched him.

But she couldn't understand why Seth agreed to go.

How could he take her away from here if he was at Strouburg?

Seth texted her again. "Wait for me. I'll handle things here and come back. It's still early. There's no need to rush." Josephine replied, "What do you mean?"

Seth replied, "I mean, it's still early here. I can even grab some breakfast. The air is really fresh, though it's a bit hot." What exactly was he up to?

Josephine didn't believe that he meant what he said. It seemed she shouldn't place all her hopes on Seth.

She needed to come up with her own plan.

However, she also realized she couldn't outwit Lewis, no matter how smart she was.

Lewis could even defeat Seth and kill Kiran. What chance did she stand?

Josephine sighed and turned her gaze to the window. She extended her hand, allowing the sunlight to caress her slender and beautiful fingers.

The sun was shining outside.

When would her better days come?

Although Lewis didn't restrict her freedom now, she felt constrained wherever she went.

After returning home, she slept through the afternoon again.

In the evening, Mrs. Larson called her for dinner. Lewis still hadn't returned.

Josephine paid him no mind. She finished her meal and went back to sleep.

Over the weekend, she spent most of her time sleeping. Other than that, she only woke up to eat.

When she finally woke up from her nap, she felt utterly drained.

The doctor said she wouldn't feel sleepy once she regained her memory. Josephine didn't understand why she still felt so drowsy.

She propped herself up on the edge of the bed, her body heavy from oversleeping. Even breathing felt tiring.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, she took a moment to rest before finally getting up and dragging her weary body downstairs.

Mrs. Larson was somewhat concerned. It hadn't been long since she recovered. Why was she feeling so sleepy again? Was she bored at home? Perhaps she needed to get busy with work to stay awake?

"Mrs. Alvarez, are you alright?"

Josephine shook her head. "I'm fine."

Finishing her words, she skillfully walked to the dining area and picked up the concoction on the table before swallowing it.

After drinking, she needed a while to regain her strength.

Coincidentally, at that moment, Conrad called her.

Josephine answered the call wearily. "Hello?"

"Um, Mrs. Alvarez, Chairman Alvarez, he ..." Conrad struggled to find the right words.

"What happened to him?"

Conrad mustered his courage and said, "Chairman Alvarez had been drinking at Magic Cube for two days straight. Can you please go and talk to

him?"

It had been two days since Josephine had seen Lewis, and she only remembered his existence now.

"Let him do whatever he wants. What is it to do with me?"

"Madam, his injuries haven't fully healed yet. Aside from his previous wounds, the injuries from when he fell off the cliff with you also haven't healed. It's not safe for him to keep drinking like this!"

Josephine paused. Suddenly, the image of him shielding her when they tumbled down the cliff crossed her mind.

However, the memory quickly vanished and was replaced by his hurtful words from the other night.

He had criticized her for not knowing how to please men and had sought comfort from women at Magic Cube. He had nothing to do with her.

Conrad continued anxiously, "Madam, regardless of what may have happened between you two, consider it a favor in return for the times he risked his life to save yours. Can't you go and talk to him?"

Conrad added, "Do you really want to see him die?"
