Who Is My Husband -
Scene 49
“What happened when you checked out my old place?” Kailee asked as Trey finished helping her get dressed.
“When we arrived, nothing was there but the burning flames. I’m not exactly sure the purpose of burning down the old buildings unless it is a message?” Trey slid his arm around her waist. “In either case, I am not worried and you shouldn’t be either. You are mated to the future dragon king after all.” He grabbed his mask and pushed it on his face. There were still servants that he was keeping his identity secret from.
Kailee giggled as he led her down the hall. It was now almost noon, they had skipped breakfast having one of a different sorts in their bedroom. They were both hungry now and needed actual food. As soon as Trey pushed the doors open to the dining room Lance, Reggie and Grum all stood up. Jane was not in the dining room yet.
Kailee watched as the three men bowed slightly to them once Trey had shut the door.
Kailee looked at them as if they had grown a tail. Which ironically, they did when they shifted. “Quit being weird.” She hissed at them.
They raised their heads smiling. “So you couldn’t wait any longer huh Trey?” Reggie grinned as they all sat down.
Trey chuckled. “No, she quite literally made that impossible.” He reached his hand back and rubbed his neck. As he did a mark was revealed near his collar bone.
Reggie jumped up with wide eyes and raced over to Trey. He grabbed on his shirt collar and pulled it down. “Well… I’ll be damned.”
“Kailee marked you?” Lance said jumping up to get a closer look along with Grum.
Kailee felt really embarrassed and wished she could slide under the table. How did they know what happened? Then it hit her. They must have felt the connection like she did inside of her when Trey marked her.
“I bet that was hot.” Reggie said with a smirk. “How did it feel?”
Trey chuckled. “Quit crowding us.” He grinned shaking his head.
“What does her power exchange feel like?” Lance asked.
“Maybe we can get an idea of what she is.” Grum said thoughtfully.
“Honestly I have no idea. But it was really powerful. It knocked me unconscious.” Trey admitted quietly making the three men turn and look at Kailee in silence.
“What would be powerful enough to send a surge like that? One strong enough to knock Trey out?” Reggie slunk down in a chair deep in thought.
“I’ve been thinking about it. With her involvement with the forest and their creatures she must be a type of strong fairy.” Grum said rubbing his forehead.
“Oh how about the fairy princess?” Reggie said with childlike excitement.
“Who has been reading bedtime stories to Reg again?” Lance chuckled shoving Reggie on his shoulder as he walked by to go back to his seat.
“What? That is a good guess.” Reggie said sourly.
“Where is Jane?” Trey asked.
“She’s been in her room all day.” Reggie said quietly. “I brought her breakfast there. You know we were all able to feel the connection last night. She knows you have marked your mate now. There is no going back. I think she now knows it is really over, finally. I think she just needs some time.”
Trey nodded his head. “Once we get our breakfast lock the doors so I can take this mask off.”
“You showed her who you are?!” Reggie asked in shock.
“No point hiding it now. She marked me remember? As if those dumb potions would work anymore.” Trey laughed shaking his head.
Reggie smirked. “So be honest. How disappointed were you? You know that Ty and Trey were one and the same. Go ahead. Level with me. Bet you regret not letting me mark you.”
Trey growled at Reggie who only chuckled at his empty threat. Kailee giggled and shook her head. “I was a bit shocked at first. But I was more annoyed knowing what this means now. I’m getting put in lockdown.” She stuck her l*p out and folded her arms over her chest.
She listened as Trey chuckled beside her. He reached out and grabbed the l*p of her seat pulling her closer to him. Then he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her body into his. “This is only temporary. Soon I will be taking you back home with me.”
That was right. This was Reggie’s place. Not Trey’s. He was the one who grew up here as a child. She looked up at Reggie and frowned for a moment. Then her eyes widened.
She jumped up on her feet, scooting her chair back and pointed at Reggie. “Gee GEE!” She said loudly.
Reggie chuckled. “So she finally remembers me.” He had a smile on his face but he suddenly felt a bit anxious now. He was waiting for what he was afraid was going to happen.
“I didn’t know that was you?! I had no idea who you were.” Kailee began chatting in excitement. “Why does it feel like those memories were missing until just now?”
“What am I missing here?” Trey asked as their food was brought in and sat down. The moment the servants left Grum locked the doors and the golden mask was placed down on the table.
Kailee slowly sat back down scooting her seat back next to Trey. She smiled, looking up at Trey. “I used to play with Reggie when I was a little girl. Back when my parents were still alive. Though I never knew who he was. I always called him Gee Gee. I just now put together that it was Reggie. And after my parents died I never saw him again.” But it was like the memory of Reggie just appeared. Like it had not existed before just now.
“Uh oh Trey. Sounds like your mate had a sweetheart before you.” Lance teased and Kailee giggled.
“It was nothing like that. We played in the woods and built a fort together. That was the time I ran into a manticore.” Kailee said as she began to remember things she had forgotten.
“I never put together then that you two could understand one another.” Reggie said shaking his head. “No wonder he left when you yelled at him for destroying our fort.”
“So you knew it was me all this time?! And you never said anything?” Kailee asked lifted her hands up, holding her palms up as she shook her head.
“Yes I did. I remembered your scent.” Reggie smiled. “I figured it didn’t matter if you remembered me or not.”
Kailee raised her eyebrow at him and frowned. “Why do you do that?” She leaned slightly into Trey as she continued to keep her gaze on Reggie.
He grinned at her as he looked at her in confusion. “Do what?”
“You pretend you aren’t bothered by something even when you are. You should be more open. You aren’t alone. You have people around you. That’s how someone acts when they don’t have anyone to lean on. But you do. You did it then and you still do it now.” She watched as his smile faded and his eyes stayed on hers. She understood his forced smiles because that was what she used to do. She really didn’t have anyone growing up. But he did. Even as a child he would hide behind his smile. Now remembering him it was like a veil was being lifted. She was able to understand Reggie a bit better.
She remembered him as a child forcing a big smile on his face. But his eyes looked like they wanted to cry. She gave him a hug and told him she was sorry he was sad. Even when he insisted that he wasn’t. Then she saw the tears form in his eyes. And looking back on it now it was probably the day his father had been killed.
She didn’t understand why he had blurred out of her memory. It was similar to how the night her parents were killed. That day is all gone from her memories as well. She looked up at Reggie’s green eyes and she could recognize the kid she used to play with. It was like once she remembered everything about him started to trickle back in her memories.
Sharp pain jabbed in her head as weird flashes of a forgotten memory surface. Her fingers began to tremble and she grabbed onto her head as pain tore through her.
“Kailee.” Trey could see her distress but didn’t know how to help her. “Reggie, can you do something about this?”
“I… can’t.” Reggie said quietly. He looked up at Trey. “This pain… is my fault.”
“What do you mean?” Trey’s green eyes flashed at his cousin angrily.
“I… I’ve altered her memories Trey.” Reggie said quietly. “Now that she is remembering me its crashing down on her.”
“So that is the real reason you didn’t tell her who you were…” Lance said quietly as he looked at Kailee’s face scrunched up in pain.
Reggie stood up and placed his hand on Kailee’s head. “I can meld our memory of that day together. She will see both mine and hers. It should help quicken the process.”

Kailee looked on in horror as her family’s estate was being burned. She rushed into the flaming building as she searched for her parents. They were in there somewhere. As she ran into the dining room, she saw them. Three bodies that had been massacred. The bodies of her parents and aunt had been mutilated to almost beyond recognition. Her body began shaking as she fell to her knees. She was frozen in place. The smoked entered her lungs making her feel heavy. Though the flames did not burn her.
“Kailee!” A boy with brown hair and green eyes ran up to her. “Come on we’ve got to get you out of here.” Reggie watched the unresponsive girl. She was in shock. The scene was too hideous. He grabbed onto her and carried her out the backdoor. He sat her down as she continued to stare in shock.
“Kailee. Kailee.” Reggie frowned and placed his hands on her head. “You don’t need to remember this Kailee. It’ll be okay. You’re going to be okay.” He lowered her to the ground as she fell unconscious.
He frowned as he looked at her unconscious body. He saw someone walk into the forest in the distance. And he hopped up onto his feet. “I’ll be back Kailee.” He then took off to investigate. He figured it was the culprit and he wanted to see who it was. But he lost them. And when he came back her uncle was already taking Kailee away. He hesitated unsure what to do. But if her uncle wasn’t killing her now then he wasn’t going to. Not to mention he was just a child and was not a match for him. Reluctantly he turned and left. He left the area and traveled to the heart of Monog for help.
__
Kailee felt a heavy fog lift off of her at that moment. She was remembering everything. Even how she had been held captive by a man with dark eyes and dark hair. She managed to escape him with Sparks help. She ran back home to see her place on fire.
Her memories that included Reggie all became clear. He blocked out all of the memories of himself. But it was the image of her family that haunted her at that moment. Her hand was trembling as she tried to control her breathing.
“Is she going into shock?” Grum asked leaning closer over the table.
“Kailee.” Trey said in a soothing tone. He leaned forward and nuzzled his nose into the mark on her neck. This would help her relax and calm down. They were marked mates and their connection together was strong. It was enough to pull her out from her drowning emotions. He could feel her trembling stop as her breathing leveled out. He watched as she blinked several times and felt her shoulders sag.
Kailee stared at the table in front of her. That is why she never remembered what happened that day. But she had lost something important as well as devastating. It was a friendship. Reggie must have been so sad. He had just lost his father the night before too.
The image of her families mutilated bodies flashed in her mind. Why were their bodies destroyed like that? Was it out of anger or was there another purpose? And why didn’t Reggie tell anyone that he already knew her?
