Who Is My Husband -
Scene 50
Kailee raised her hands, rubbed her eyes and let out a deep breath.
“Kailee.” Trey gently cooed to her as he slowly rubbed her back.
“Why… why did they look like that?” Kailee bit her l*p and shook her head. “What was the purpose of that?” Her voice raised as she shook her head. Why were their bodies mangled so badly?
Reggie walked up to Kailee’s side and knelt down. He placed one of his hands on her arms. “I’m sorry Kay. I wish… I really never wanted you to remember what happened.” He hesitated for a moment until her brown eyes turned to look at him. She had a frown on her face.
“And never remember you?” She said quietly.
Reggie grinned. “That was okay. I was fine building a new friendship with you. Sorry about in the beginning though. I wasn’t sure… well after living with your uncle what type of person you would be. I didn’t realize… I didn’t know you had been treated badly there. I figured he kept you alive so he wouldn’t hurt you. I didn’t know it was because he couldn’t hurt you yet. I’m… I’m sorry for leaving you.”
“Wait a minute. So you knew Kailee and you never mentioned it to me?” Trey said fixing his eyes on Reggie. Was he doing it again? What he did before… walking away from someone he cared for so he didn’t get in the way of their happiness.
Reggie stood up and sat on the table next to Kailee. “It’s not that Trey.” He winked at him. “I wanted it to stop with me. I was going to guard her unwanted memories myself. You know I’m not really strong with my memory altering. As soon as she started piecing things together it crumbled. I didn’t want to risk what ended up happening now.”
“I’m sorry. That must have been lonely.” Kailee said quietly.
Reggie tilted his head down at her and smiled. “You were the one who ended up lonely Kay.”
“What did they do to their bodies?” Kailee lifted her head up and met with his green ones with resolve. She wanted to hear it.
Reggie looked at Trey and his eyes met with an apprehensive stare. He wasn’t sure if he should disclose what had happened. It was unsettling and he didn’t think she needed to hear this.
What happened? Trey asked through their closed mind link.
Their organs were harvested… Reggie said catching the angry glare from Kailee. Demons liked to feast on human organs. Including the liver and heart. This was likely a prize for a demon that was involved as a job well done.
“I don’t appreciate these private conversations when it was my question.” Kailee leaned slightly away from Trey as she looked at him as well.
“Baby… you don’t need to hear about all this. It is bad enough that memory is in your head.” He tugged her back over towards him. “Please trust me. This knowledge doesn’t change anything.” There was no point in her hearing more of the details. After all, it doesn’t change anything now. All this information does is cause more hurt.
She understood what he was saying. And the more she thought about it she didn’t want to know. Trey was right. This knowledge wouldn’t change anything.
“So Gee Gee huh?” Grum said as he lowered himself back in his seat.
“Adorable nickname. I might adopt it myself.” Lance chuckled.
Kailee giggled as Trey pulled her closer in his arms. “I called him Gee Gee and he called my Kay Kay.”
“Awww little Reggie and Kailee must have been a cute little couple together.” Lance jabbed at Trey who growled lowly.
She giggled. “We were children. But he was a good friend.”
Reggie chuckled. “Was a good friend? I still am a good friend.” He never did look at Kailee as more than friends. Even back then he was smitten with the person who was not his. The one who he has had to watch be happy with someone else.
“We shall see.” She smiled up at him.
“Well, these eggs are cold.” Dio said with a frown.
“It is quite rude. You would think they would start having a plate set aside for us too.” Pyro ripped a piece of bacon off that he could munch on.
“Oh look my lord… we have mice.” Grum growled lowly eyeing the two gnomes.
“MICE?!” Pyro turned around shooting daggers at Grum with his eyes.
“We should make sure they have a plate made of their own. I think that would be a nice gesture. Sorry I didn’t think about it before.” Kailee watched as Grant and Koma hopped up on the table.
“Well to be fair we only told you we would be around. But these two insist to keep mooching from the kitchen here.” Grant said with a shrug.
“I feel you two have marked each other. Congratulations. I know this is what you both have been wanting.” Koma said being able to feel the shift in their emotions and their connection.
“He’s empathing us again.” Kailee giggled.
“Ahh, speaking about that. I think we should make a very clear boundary. And that is our bedroom is off limits.” Trey said watching the four gnomes chuckle quietly.
“Well, that is obvious. Especially now that you have marked each other.” Dio said with an eye roll.
Koma walked up to Kailee and held out a small object in his hands. “We are actually here for a reason… you need to eat this.”
She looked at it and tilted her head questioningly.
“What does she need to eat and why?” Trey tightened his arm on Kailee before she could reach for whatever it was.
“The thing is… tonight is the night that lady Meera died. Kailee has come of age and her magic has finally emerged…” Grant said quietly.
“It is an extra suppressant in addition to the metal cuff you have on. It will help make this evening not as hard on you.” Koma walked closer to the edge of the table and placed the small crumb like object in Kailee’s hand.
“What happens if I don’t eat this?” She asked looking at the object.
Pyro licked his fingers tasting the salty bacon grease and cleared his throat. “Your powers haven’t finished merging my lady. The remaining powers of your mother will enter you tonight.”
“Wait… remaining powers?” Reggie looked at Trey mildly concerned. They both could already sense the subdued magic within her. And it was vast. To say there was more… What was Kailee?
“Kailee if you don’t take this you will be forced into shifting before you are informed. Please trust us.” Dio finally spoke up. He pinned his gaze on Kailee and gave her a reassuring smile.
“Shift? I’m going to shift into something?” Kailee looked at Trey who was studying her. He was even trying to smell her more. But he ended up shrugging his shoulders in defeat.
“I don’t know Kailee. You don’t smell like any of the shifters we know of.” Trey said with a smile. “But that’s okay. I told you that doesn’t matter to me.”
“What if I am a dragon eater or something?” She listened to the roar of laughter that came from everyone in the room.
“There is no such thing sweetheart. We are at the top of the magical food chain.” Trey chuckled as he squeezed Kailee from her adorableness.
“Okay then… what if I am like dragon food?” Kailee asked and Trey gave her a wry smile.
“Baby, you already are my dragon’s food.” He said as he leaned near her ear.
“Kailee, you are not a dragon eater or dragon food. You are… someone very special.” Grant said with a smile.
She stared at the thing in her hand and looked up at Trey to see what he was thinking.
“I think it is probably a good idea. Don’t’ want you shifting in the middle of the party tonight do we?” Trey chuckled and she nodded.
“Yeah, that might not be good.” She lifted it up and put the crumb in her mouth. She swallowed it and her eyes widened. She reached out for a cup in front of her and began gulping her juice down. Tears were streaming down her face as her face heated red.
“Sorry, my lady. It is a bit spicy.” Koma said as Grum started laughing from across the table.
“It wasn’t me this time.” Grum continued to laugh while Trey rubbed her back soothingly.
“Here take my cup too.” Trey said after Kailee had finished her beverage. “How long will the effects last?”
“A few days or until Alistair gives her the antidote.” Dio replied as he chewed on some of the cold eggs.
“Please tell me the antidote isn’t spicy too.” Kailee’s voice was all but pleading. She was not a fan of spicy food and has had more than enough lately.
“No, it is very sweet.” Koma said with a wide grin. He then looked at Trey. “You may feel some of the exchange though. Do you wish for a suppressant as well?”
“No. I can’t risk having myself suppressed. I need to always be ready just in case.” Trey touched his mark on his collar bone for a moment. “How intense will it be?”
“I’m afraid we don’t know. But it may inhibit you momentarily. We aren’t sure how strong the overflow will be.” Grant wished he could be more helpful, but it wasn’t well documented. It was something that was never really discussed about their mates.
“Well…” Trey stood up and cleared his throat. “We should probably start getting ready for tonight.”
“We still have hours before we leave.” Reggie said with a knowing smile.
Trey shot him a look and then gave him a wry smile. “I’m not sure if that will be enough time. We may end up being a bit late.” He pulled Kailee up next to him and winked at her. She lifted his mask up to him and helped him place it back on his face.
“Oh well if your clothing is that complicated do you want me to come and give you a hand?” Reggie asked sliding off of the table.
“Anyone who comes to my room will wish they were dead. We are not to be disturbed.” He looked down at Kailee who had a cute blush staining her cheeks. “I need to satisfy my appetite in order to make it through the night.”
Reggie shook his head chuckling as Trey lead Kailee out of the room. The moment the door shut he turned and looked at the other two.
“So we all know what we are supposed to be doing?” Reggie asked.
“Yes. We will be watching closely. Fredrick is sure to be there tonight.” Grum said and growled lowly. “Finally, time to get rid of that man once and for all.”
