He was stuck; whenever he touched the doorknob it was send an electrical shock through his body. The walls, doors, and windows were enchanted to keep him and his men from going near them. They couldn't leave the castle. There were no signs of Petra or Alex

anywhere,

which meant they were doing this from afar. It had to be them.

If Marlon had to guess, Alex reached out to Bob to warn him of Petra's whereabouts so that Marlon would go investigate. They wanted him to get away from Mooncrest and into the castle to trap him. They were going after Deonna.

"Bob?" Marlon tried to link his son; he had hoped that just because he was in some kind of shield in the castle, that didn't mean his link wasn't going to work.

He was relieved when Bob responded.

"Father..." Bob said, he sounded a bit hostile, but Marlon didn't have time for that right now.

"We have a problem. I think Petra and Alex are on their way to the manor as we speak. I am trapped in the castle," Marlon explained.

"What do you mean by trapped?" Bob asked.

"I mean, there's some kind of force shield around the castle that's preventing me from leaving. They were planning on me being here and trapped me in the person," Marlon said, with urgency in his tone.

"I need you to be prepared to fight. It's up to you," Marlon told his son.

He trusted Bob when it came to fighting. Unlike Alex, Bob was strong and more than capable of fighting an entire army on his own, in hi wolf form, when needed. He was much stronger than Alex and could take out Alex quickly. He knew Bob would be up for the task. "What about you, father? How are you going to get out of the castle?" Bob asked.

"Don't worry about me. We will figure something out. Just focus on taking care of things there," Marlon ordered.

He disconnected the link before Bob could argue anymore. He looked around the castle with unease filling his body.

He needed to figure out a way out of the castle; he had to get back to Deonna.

(Deonna)

"What do you mean Alex and Petra are on their way here?" I asked, staring at Kamala dumbfounded.

She just ran into Marlon's bedroom frantically, saying that Alex and Petra have Marlon trapped at the castle. He wasn't answering my link and my heart wasn't going to be able to handle this much distress.

Mateo was playing with his stuffed wolf on my bed; he was holding it close to his chest and babbling some words I couldn't understand.

If Alex and Petra were on their way to the castle; that meant everybody there was in danger.

"How do you know this for sure?" I asked, eyeing Kamala carefully.

She paused for a moment; she looked hesitant. I then realized it was most likely because Bob told her, which meant they were together when they found out about this.

My frown deepened as I stood up from my bed. The last time we spoke about Bob, I had told her to stay away from him. It wasn't my intent to tell her what to do, but Bob was no good. He couldn't be trusted. I know he saved my life numerous times, but he also tried to r**e me numerous times and used me to cheat in his studies when I first arrived.

Now that I was off the table and being protected by Marlon, he needed someone else to torment. I was worried that the person he torments next, was going to be Kamala. She only knew some of the stories about my relationship and encounters with Bob; she didn't know the entire thing. She didn't know that he's tried to rape me on my first day at the manor and a few times since then. She didn't know how much he despised me, and that Alex was the levelheaded of the two.

I didn't want her to know all of that because I didn't want to scare her. But now that she was clearly getting closer to Bob, or rather allowing Bob closer to her, I was worried she was going to learn all of that firsthand.

I couldn't allow that to happen. Not to my best friend.

"Marlon linked Bob; we were having lunch in my room and..." Kamala tried to explain.

"Your room?" I said in a gasp.

"Well, the guest room," she said sheepishly.

"That's not what I meant," I shot back. "I mean, you let him in your room?"

"Does that really matter right now?" Kamala asked, eyeing me with hurt in her expression.

I sighed; she was right.

I didn't mean to hurt her. I never wanted to hurt her. It wasn't fair to her that I was holding her back. She's been on her own for so long and surviving on her own. I needed to start trusting her instincts and her judgements.

"I'm sorry," I told her softly. "I just want to protect you. But I know that you are more than capable of protecting yourself."

"I get it," Kamala breathed, stepping closer to me. "I promise though, there's nothing on with Bob and me. I double there ever will be. He's not my type. He's too light-furred for my taste," Kamala chuckled while flipping her hair back over her shoulder.

I couldn't help but laugh as well. I don't know why I was so worried. She would never let Bob's charm swoon her. It wasn't like her at all.

"Deonna?" Marlon's voice came through her mind from the wolf's link.

She still wasn't used to being able to use the link and it startled her whenever someone tried to connect with her.

"Deonna? Are you okay?" Marlon asked, he sounded strained.

"Marlon! I'm fine. We are all fine. Is it true that you are stuck in the castle?" I asked.

"I'm afraid so. But don't you worry. We are going to figure a way out of here. Meanwhile, I need you to take cover. Find somewhere safe to hide. Bob is preparing to fight against Alex, Petra, and whatever army they bring with them," Marlon explained. "I need you, Mateo, and Kamala to get to safety."

"Where do you suppose we go to hide?" I asked; I couldn't think of a single place that Alex and Petra wouldn't find.

After a long pause, Marlon finally answered.

"Get out of the kingdom. Go back to your village," he answered.

My mouth nearly dropped in shock.

"You want me to leave?" I asked, dumbfounded.

"If Alex and Petra are on their way there, you need to go in the opposite direction. Your village is in the opposite direction. They wouldn't expect you to be back there. It won't take you long to get there if you leave in your wolf forms," Marlon suggested. "You're serious?" I asked, still shocked that he was suggesting such a thing.

"Deonna, I need you to get to safety. Until we can sort all of this out, you aren't safe there. I just spoke to Bob about it, and he agrees. He thinks it's best if you both left with Mateo. I can't risk having anything happen to you."

I couldn't believe he wanted us to leave Mooncrest. I knew he was only looking out for our well-being, but it felt weird leaving everyone behind when I knew that danger was approaching. It was approaching because of us; I couldn't just leave in the middle of it. He sensed my hesitation.

"Please, Deonna. For once, do you as you are told," he nearly begged.

I sighed, looking over at Mateo. He was right; I needed to listen to him. For Mateo's sake, I had to do what was best for our son and our unborn child.

I placed my hand firmly on my stomach and breathed in; I couldn't feel the baby yet, considering it was too soon in the pregnancy, but I could feel Its presence and the aura that surrounded it. I needed to protect both my children.

Kamala was staring at me with concern in her eyes; she couldn't hear the conversation I was having with Marlon, and she didn't know what the plan was.

"Okay," I finally said to Marlon before disconnecting the link.

Kamala still looking at me confused, asked, "What's going on?"

"That was Marlon. Bob was right. He's trapped in the castle. He's trying to figure out how to get out and back to us. He said that Petra and Alex are on their way here. They are after Mateo and me," I explained.

She looked worried; I didn't blame her. She was barely a part of any of this and now she was in the middle of it all. I didn't blame her if she wanted to run far away from all of this.

"So, what's the plan?" She surprised me by asking, determination in her eyes.

I hesitated before answering, unsure of how I felt about it, but knowing it was the right thing to do.

"He wants us to leave," I told her. "We are going home."
