Chloe's POV:

I stared at Marcus's retrieving form, until he vanished into the trees. My eyes watered and I blinked continuously, forcing back the tears. This was something I had wanted to do on my own, but why did I suddenly feel so scared? You have to be strong, Chloe... do this for your parents.

I nodded to myself, letting my inner voice of reason take charge of the situation. My eyes lowered to the flute like object in my palm and I lifted it up to my face, observing it. I looked around me, before closing my eye. Dracula, I want you to come to me now, for I have made my decision.

I waited for a minute, then two minutes. A couple more minutes and when I thought he would not be responding anytime soon, I felt a presence behind me and I stiffened. I whirled around to come face to face with Dracula. "Hello there," he raised a hand up, waving shortly at me. "It feels good to hear from you at such short notice, I thought it would take you a long long time to make a decision."

I heaved a sigh, holding myself back from snapping at him. If anything, I wanted to pretend to build a good relationship with him so he could let me in and give me exactly what I needed. "Dracula," I greeted.

"Oh child," he said, floating closer to me. My eyes lowered to the floor nd that was when I noticed that his feet were not touching the ground. "I would prefer I would prefer if you called me grandpa, it's more of an endearment eh?"

Bloody, old, stupid toad!

I was only a second away from ramming my fist into his nose. The man knew how to get a person infuriated and I needed the grace from above to help me put up with him for as long as possible.

"Grandfather," I gritted out, the muscles in my neck straining as I clenched my teeth so hard. "I have come to make a deal with you but first; I must request something of you."

His head cocked to the side slightly, his green eyes giving me a quick once over. "And pray tell," he started in an impatient tone. "Whatever, would you like to request of me?"

I took a deep breath, squaring my shoulders as I met his eyes. "I want you to tell me more about the whole underworld, and what is required of me."

He stared down at me with piercing eyes, something close to intimidation lurking in them. I almost got intimidated, in fact, I did get intimidated but I refused to back down, meeting him gaze for gaze. "Very well then, if you insist." I nodded.

"So... what will you like to know?"

"Everything," I replied with no hesitation. "I want to know all that there is to know."

He gave a stiff nod. "Let's take a walk then," he said, making a hand gesture for me to go with him deeper into the woods. I knew it was like letting satan convince you to go to hell with him, but I had to do it, there was no other way out if it. "The vampire world is ruled by the most powerful of vampires dubbed: Dracula. It is one of the oldest realms, we existed far before even humans were...."

I jumped in surprise when suddenly, Marcus's voice came in my head. He was bombarding me with a series of questions at a time and I wondered how he expected me to concentrate. I'm fine baby, Dracula is here now.

And as if he had heard my thoughts, he paused, turning to give me a sharp look. I nearly jumped out of my skin but then had to remind myself that he was a vampire and had no means of getting into my head. "You look distracted, are you alright?"

"Um... me?" I imagined myself looking like a fool because he only stared at me like I was one. I had to jump at the next words that came in my head. "No, I'm alright!"

He chuckled and I looked away in embarrassment, hating that I even let myself get embarrassed in front of him. May the gods be damned be I did not get my revenge for this, I felt so humiliated!

"Well, if you insist!

To hell with you!

"So... where were we?" And he carried on talking.

I was getting to know the vampire world(which I wasn't that interested in). I just needed something to let me in, something to make me understand better what it is that I am dealing with.

When my mother had come to me in my dream, she had asked me to think and matter how risky this seemed, I could not help but think that I was doing the right thing. I really hoped everything worked out just as I had planned. "Really? Who exactly are these coven masters?" I asked, when he started talking about the coven and the rules of it.

"The Draculas," he said, his chest puffing up with pride, as a smug look took over his features. "I am a coven master and if you become the next Dracula, will will become a coven mistress and would be as powerful as I am. You will take over the world with the kind of power you will possess and then, you will be unbeatable!"

That. Sounded. Interesting.

But in all he had said, not once did I hear him mention what was in it for him. Not once n say what he would profit or benefit from handing over his throne to me. So, I asked.

All he did was give me a knowing smile. He kept quiet for a while, then stretched out his hand. "Come, I need to show you something."

If you have gotten to know me well enough, I looked down at his hand like it was some poisonous snake. How was I supposed to take the hand of a murderer? The very one who killed my parents. He had to be on something, or his old brain had gotten too tired to reason properly, if he ever thought I was going to take his hand.
