An Affair With My Ex -
Chapter 92
Abby's
POV.
As Alex curled his arms around my waist, I couldn't help but smile. Hearing him say that getting Jack to pay for what he did to me was easy brought a sense of relief to me.
I knew that Jack needed to be taken care of and held accountable for what he had done to me. Although I wasn't sure how well he would do in jail, it was still a step towards justice.
Jack had left me crippled and unable to do things I once enjoyed. I couldn't even hit my husband like he wanted me to because of that man.
But with Alex by my side, I felt stronger and more capable of overcoming the pain and trauma that Jack had caused me.
"I'm glad we both made it!" I exclaimed as I gripped Alex's hand tightly. We stood there, gazing into each other's eyes, lost in the moment.
We were about to share a kiss and enjoy each other's company when my phone rang, interrupting our romantic moment.
I pulled away from Alex's embrace, reaching for my phone. As I answered, I tried to maintain a calm demeanour, but I couldn't help the tension in my voice.
As the phone rang for what felt like the hundredth time, I ignored it, hoping it would stop.
But it persisted, and I knew I had to answer it. As I picked up the phone, a wave of fear washed over me. The statement I heard on the other end of the line was enough to make my heart race and my eyes bulge out in horror. "What??!!" I bellowed, struggling to keep my composure.
My husband, Alex, noticed my distress and quickly held my shoulders, asking if I was okay.
But I couldn't find the words to explain what had just happened. I needed to be sure of it before saying anything.
"Take us back to the courtroom!! Now!!" I ordered, my voice deep with urgency and my eyes filling up with tears.
Assistant King, our driver, didn't hesitate and turned the car around, heading back to the courtroom where we had just left. All the while, my mind was racing, and my heart was pounding in my chest.
"Please let this not be true!" I prayed silently, barely above a whisper, hoping against hope that what I heard on the phone wasn't true.
My husband's voice broke through my thoughts, pulling me back to the present moment.
I could feel the tension in his voice, and I knew that he was getting impatient with my silence.
"Are you going to talk to me, or should I just keep watching you pant?" he asked, his voice laced with heat and frustration.
I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts before responding. "I think Jack had just made the worst mistake a human could ever make!" I finally divulged, my voice heavy with emotion.
Alex looked at me with confusion, unsure of what I meant. "What do you mean, Abby? What has Jack done?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
I took a moment to compose myself before responding. "He's not breathing anymore," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Alex's expression changed from confusion to shock. "What? How is that possible?" he asked, disbelief written all over his face.
"I don't know, but we need to go check it out ourselves," I said, determination seeping into my voice.
As soon as we arrived at the courthouse, my anxiety spiked. The moment I was placed on my wheelchair, which had been brought along with us, I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear wash over me.
I knew that whatever was happening inside the courthouse was not good news, and my heart was racing in anticipation.
I turned to face the door leading into the courthouse, and the expressions on everyone's faces only served to heighten my fears.
I could see a crowd of people gathered around someone or something, their expressions ranging from shock to horror.
As we made our way closer to the crowd, my heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest. I couldn't help but wish and pray that what I was seeing was not what I thought it was.
As I approached the crowd, tears began to stream down my face uncontrollably. The sight before me was too much to bear, and I felt as if my heart was being ripped out of my chest.
"Abby!! Don't go!" My husband Alex suddenly grabbed my hand from behind, shaking his head as if to say that I shouldn't go closer to the scene. But I couldn't help it.
I needed to know what was happening, even if it meant facing the worst possible outcome.
I placed my left hand on his and took my right hand off his grip. "I have to be sure about this, Alex!" I muttered, my voice breaking.
The second I got to the scene, I instantly felt my bones weaken, my eyes quivering and my heart pounding against my chest. "Jack?" I mumbled, my eyes all moist and my face stricken with Grief.
Jack was lying dead in front of the courtroom, his blood gushing out from his body like he was stabbed by an unknown source.
I tried my best to reach for him, knowing I was crippled but unfortunately, I fell on him and I couldn't stop crying like an insane lady. "Jack!! Jack please wake up!! Please wake up!!" I wailed, my eyes turning red as I laid on his body, trying to make him stand to his feet.
He refused to respond to me and it showed that he wasn't faking it, Jack was dead, he was home and he was the one who stabbed himself.
"Come one Abby, we should leave!" Alex tried making me stand from Jack's body but I impulsively pushed him away from my body.
"Get the f**k off me!!; You caused this!" I bellowed, my face turned to him this time.
"If you didn't arrest him, if you had just let it slide, he would have still been alive, Alex!! You made him this way!!!" I cried out, my heart throbbing in pain.
Alex could only stand at a spot, gazing at me. He just didn't want to believe that he made Jack die.
I just wished I could hold Jack and see him smile at me at this moment but I guess there are some things that were above human recognition.
"We should go Abby... please!" Alex pulled me off Jack's body this time by force and dropped me on my wheelchair.
"Take her home!!" He Ordered his Assistant who immediately obeyed him without hesitation.
It was a painful day, a painful scene for me. I know Alex was only trying to be the best, to help me get Jack punished and I shouldn't have accused him for Jack's death but I just couldn't control my emotions. "Jack!" I whimpered as we went back home, ignoring his dead body on the ground.
