Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0058
Chapter 0058
Caroline's POV:
While I was thrilled to finally have my dad back in my care, I was tragically stuck with the question of who had tried to hurt him in the first place.
The obvious answer was William, but during our heated encounters, he seemed just as clueless as I was at times. At this point, I could do nothing but clear him of the charge. If not him, then who? Everything was such a mess and I was so tired of this wild goose chase. In the end, not a single person popped in my mind who I thought could take my father's life. If I wanted to solve this perplexing mystery, I was going to need some more help from a friend.
Picking up my phone, I found Martin's number and hovered my thumb over the call button, hesitating. He was the only soul I could think of who could save me in my time of need, but when I actually thought about pleading for him to help, I felt guilty.
It was selfish of me to keep coming back to him again and again for help. The only thing he had ever asked for in return was my love, and my heart was too broken to even give him that. I felt awful about how I kept dragging him into my problems, but I had no choice. Martin speedily picked up only seconds after I called. "Hey, Caroline! What can I do for you?"
I swallowed my shame before I spoke. "Hey, Martin...'
He must have heard the embarrassment in my voice, because soon he said, "Hey, is everything alright? What happened?"
Squeezing my eyes shut, I said, "I need your help. I'm so sorry."
"Hey, don't apologize," he said softly. "You're never troubling me by asking for my help. We're friends, remember? You're not a burden on me, alright?"
A shaky smile crossed over my face. "Thank you, Martin," I whispered. "You're a true friend."
"Don't mention it," he chuckled. "So, what's the problem?"
I gave him a lengthy rundown of my dad's situation and how I had no cue who could have hurt him. Martin sounded distressed throughout the story, as if hearing my plight was truly getting to him.
"Are the police involved?" he asked first.
"Yes, but they're not going fast enough," I told him. "At any moment, the person who hurt my father could come back to finish the job. They say they'll keep an eye on my father and keep him safe, but after what happened when he was in William's custody, I don't know if I can trust that. I know I'm asking a lot, but I don't know who else to turn to. I'll repay you whenever I can."
I could hear Martin's sturdy denial before it even left his lips. "Like I said, don't worry about

paying me back. We're friends, remember? Anyway, I have someone who may be able to help you. They're good at this sort of thing. I'll give you their contact information."
I swiftly got in contact with Martin's friend, who was more than happy to help me with my plight. After an hour or so, they sent me a picture and a strange video, along with the message, "These look interesting."
The first thing I diligently inspected was the video. It was a curious surveillance video of Sophia having lunch with a strange man I didn't recognize. He was tall, strong, and had a shaved head. From what I remember of the recovered footage from the sanatorium cameras, he vaguely resembled the grainy image of the man who walked out of my father's hospital
room.
Besides the possible connection to my father's brutal attack, I couldn't help but notice just how intimate the two looked together. They were sitting comfortably close to each other, with Sophia's head leaning lovingly on his shoulder and a content smile on her face. Was she cheating on William? Was that really William's true love?
The bleeding heart in me felt hurt for William. He wasn't the best person, but no soul deserved to be cheated on. Against my better judgment, I sent him a simple question. "Do you really think Sophia is as loyal as she says she is?"
What I got in return was a slew of angry messages from William, cursing me out and telling me that I was being manipulative and just trying to drive a wedge between them. I should have figured this would happen, but it still pained me to know he believed this lying woman so much.
That's when I closely scrutinized the photo Martin's friend sent, which was a still image carefully extracted from the sanatorium cameras. It clearly showed the man hurrying out of my father's room, and with the grain cleaned up I saw him clearly for the first time. He was the man sitting beside Sophia in the video!
Was it Sophia who tried to kill my father? But why? She had already destroyed so much of my life! How could she come after my only family?
I didn't understand, but now I finally knew the culprit behind my father's attempted murder: William's mistress. What's her real purpose?
