Chapter 0059

*25 BOWS

Caroline's POV:

In an instant, the clues added up before my eyes. The strange texts, the false medical reports, the doctor recommended by Sophia, the attempted murder of my father, the strange man in the video it all linked together and led back to Sophia, I now had the culprit, but how was I supposed to approach her about it?

The only way to save my dad's life was to confront her directly. Thankfully Martin's friend was easily able to dig up her phone number, and once it was in my grasp, I made a call to the witch who was tormenting my life. When Sophia answered the phone, she sounded sickly sweet as always. "This is Mrs. Anderson! How can I help you?"

I almost gagged at the title. She wanted to be married to William so badly, didn't she? It would almost be pathetic if she wasn't so dangerous. "Hello, Sophia."

Immediately, Sophia changed her tune. "Oh. It's you," she sneered. "What do you want?"

"I know you're the one who tried to kill my father," I said outright, not beating around the bush.

Sophia burst into rambunctious laughter over the phone. "What are you even talking about?" she giggled, a sound that only made anger bubble in my chest. "You're absolutely insane. No wonder William left you for me."

I coldly ignored her attempts to provoke me. I no longer cared that William had cruelly left me for a mistress. He had shown me his true colors, and now that I was finally free of him, I knew it would have been better if we were never married in the first place. "I don't care, you can have him."

Sophia let out a surprised "excuse me?" It was as if she were shocked that her bitter comments weren't affecting me. "You really are insane if you're willing to give up a wonderful billionaire like him. Or are you just dumb, like your father?"

"Don't change the subject, Sophia," I growled, unwilling to let the conversation derail. "I know you were after my father. I have proof, and you're going to meet me in public so we can confront this head on.*

"I don't have to take this from you. Have fun dying," she scoffed. So she did know about my illness! Now she was using it to coldly taunt me. She was nothing but a ruthless, unfeeling

woman.

Just before she could unfeelingly hang up, though, I managed to get one last word in. "Does William know you're cheating on him?"

There was a moment of stark silence, and Sophia failed to speak a word. I managed a smile, because I knew I had caught her red-handed.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she hissed. Her tone had taken a fast turn from last time; more cautious now. She was terrified of losing her position as "Mrs. Anderson". "You're crazy, just like your father. It'll be a service to humanity when your bloodline is wiped from history."

I didn't care about whatever cruelties she was spouting. All I demanded were answers for the sake of my father's life.

"I have proof," I told her. "If you don't meet me in person, I'm going to show William everything about your little boyfriend."

Sophia let out a slew of expletives at me, calling me nasty things that were supposed to get under my skin, but it didn't work. Finally, she just said, "Fine! We'll meet. Where are we going?"

I told her the location of a quaint little park on the south side of the city. It was a nice public area to ensure I was perfectly safe from attempts to attack me or threaten me.

Although there was confidence in my heart as I went to meet her that afternoon, I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. Sophia may have been caught by me, but she was a tricky woman. She would undoubtedly try to find some way to escape her fate.

I needed to stay strong and keep my head held up high. I had the upper hand, and as long as I didn't doubt myself, I was going to finally get justice for my father.

At the scenic little park, I sat down patiently, waiting for Sophia to show up. She never arrived, however, and I was quickly growing impatient. had she flaked out on me? If she did, then she could kiss her relationship with William goodbye.

Furious at her cowardice, I rang her phone. When she answered, I spoke to her with unbidden anger. "You better have a good explanation for why you're not here," I growled, feeling tense. "My period came early!" Sophia complained. "I'm stuck in the bathroom nearby. Do you think you can bring me some tampons or sanitary pads? I can't leave without them."

A wave of irritation overtook me, but I couldn't fault her for something she couldn't control. Letting out an exhausted sigh, I said, "I have some in my bag. Give me a moment."

I hung up and reluctantly ventured over to the bathrooms to offer Sophia this one kindness. Entering, I noticed that the small building was completely barren. I curiously searched around for Sophia, but she was nowhere to be seen. "Sophia?"

Just as I was about to turn back, I heard someone sprint behind me. I was barely able to yell out before something struck me on the back of my head, knocking me unconscious.
