Chapter 0060 William's POV:

I should have been elated to see Sophia again, but my thoughts constantly returned to that strange image I saw of Sophia, smiling girlishly beside a man I didn't recognize. Caroline's words still rung in my mind, and in my gut, I felt like something was off. Trying my best to ignore it, as I casually strutted into the villa and was greeted by the sight of my beautiful future wife.

Sophia was curled up on the sofa, innocent and silent, not even looking up at me when I came in.

"Sophia," I called, walking over with a wide smile. "How's my love doing?"

She glanced up at me with a face full of surprise, as though she'd never heard me come in. "Oh," was all she said at first, taking my kiss on the cheek with little reaction. When she spoke, her sultry voice sounded distracted. "William, you're home." "Yam," I hummed, giving her a quick peck on the lips. I noticed right away that she had a weary look to her, appearing completely lost in thought. "Is... is everything alright?"

Sophia gave me another look of surprise, realizing her odd behavior was exposed, and only then did she seem to turn her full attention onto me. "Yeah, everything's fine," she replied, offering me a strained smile. "I'm just really tired."

I frowned, my worry for her growing. "Well, just get some rest, alright? I love you."

The smile she gave me was sugary sweet, and I was reminded of why I had fallen head over heels with her in the first place. She was so utterly beautiful and loving to me. "I love you, too, William."

We tried to go about the rest of our day, but I noticed that Sophia's strange behavior never lifted. Whenever I lovingly called for her, she barely mustered up a response beyond a few words. She was always looking far off somewhere, as if trapped deep in thought. She barely even paid any attention to our darling George, usually ignoring his cries and leaving me to halt my vital work and take care of him. I didn't mind caring for my own baby boy, but it left me worried about my girlfriend. Was she sick? She wasn't running a fever, and she otherwise appeared completely healthy.

Later that night, I decided to spice things up and engage in something intimate. Maybe a passionate night would get her out of her head.

After George was rocked gently to sleep, I took a shower to get ready for a fun night. When I returned, clad only in a pair of boxer shorts, Sophia was busy on her phone with a deep frown set on her face. I stepped into the room and she jumped when she saw me, a brief flash of fear flitting across her visage. Seeing it sent a pain in my heart. Why would she be scared?

"Hey, are you sure everything's alright?" I asked, approaching the bed at a carefully slow pace Chapter 0060

"I'm fine," she murmured, brushing off my well placed worries and going back to her phone.

After watching her for a moment in concern, I gently took the phone out of her hands. It was clearly making her anxious, and I wanted her to unwind. Although she looked angry when I did that, she didn't protest when I kissed her. She reciprocated, but it was weak and unenthusiastic.

When I touched her gorgeous body, she barely reacted. Usually she would be returning my affection, her hands eagerly roaming every inch of my toned form. This time, however, she was unresponsive and could barely look at me.

Daring to take it a step further, I began to peel her shirt off to expose her curvy frame. That's when she promptly grasped my wrist, stopping me in my tracks. The look she gave me was tired, and even a little annoyed. "Not tonight, baby," was all she said, taking a hand and gently pushing me away. "I'm not in the mood."

Her behavior caught me off guard. Never had she turned down an intimate night, even after she'd had George. It was then that I knew she was struggling with something in silence." Sophia, please talk to me. What's going on?" Sophia gave me a weak expression. "I've been traveling for a few days. I'm exhausted, William. Not tonight."

Although I was hoping for intimacy, I would never force anything on her. Without another word, I sluggishly rolled back over to my side of the bed to get some much-needed sleep. I wound my arms around her tenderly and fell into a deep slumber.

At around 3 a.m., I was awoken by the loud ping of a text. The text wasn't from my phone, curiously enough, but instead Sophia's. I looked over at Sophia to see that she was still sound asleep, so I picked up her phone in annoyance and peered at the message. Who on Earth was messaging my fiancée at this time of night?

Whoever it was had sent a photo I couldn't see without sneaking into her phone. The only other thing they sent were the ominous words "Here she is. I did a good job, didn't I?"

I stared cautiously at the unopened image, my finger hovering over it. I trusted Sophia, and I wanted to respect her privacy, but my curiosity urged me to see what was inside. Would I dare?
