Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0062
Chapter 0062
Caroline's POV:
"Don't move!" yelled a member of SWAT as an entire team armed to the teeth stormed in, all with their guns trained on the perpetrator. The man who had been preparing to carve me up like a turkey held up his hands in shock, fear plastered over his face. "I-it's not what it looks like!" he pleaded, but he was fiercely knocked to the ground by one of the officers.
The cop who had roughly thrown him down sneered at him with contempt. "Disgusting," he scowled, before speaking to his fellow officers in a commanding tone. "The hostage is our main priority." He glanced over at the figure looming in the doorway, the same one who had stormed in, bravely shot my attacker, and called out my name. "You did good in leading us here, sir. You saved her life just in the nick of time."
I looked up in amazement to see who had saved me and I could hardly believe my eyes; it was William! My lips parted in shock and I wanted to speak, but I couldn't find the words. William had actually led the police here and saved my life!
He hurried over to me, gazing down at me as if he were rescuing someone who was truly precious to him. Despite all the hatred I felt towards William in the past, my heart soared upon seeing him. I was alive and free because of him.
"William," I rasped, my voice trembling in awe. I was shocked that he held the compassion to find me and rescue me. "William, how did you
"Shh, don't speak," he hushed me, smoothly rounding the chair and cutting my binds. "You need to conserve your energy, Caroline. Are you alright?"
The unbearable pressure on my wrists was released and I sighed in relief, bringing my arms back to soothingly rub at the raw skin. "I'm a little shaken up, but I'll manage. Thank you, murmured. "I really mean it, William."
William was unusually gentle as he helped me to stand. He gave one of the officers a stern look, as if he was powerful enough to command them. "Make sure you give me a rundown of everything he tells you. Oh, and don't forget..." He turned a cold gaze onto my would- be murderer. "Make sure you teach him a lesson for me."
His voice was absolutely chilling. I could hardly believe it was William saying such bitter words. My attacker's eyes widened in terror and he began to beg for forgiveness, tears forming in his eyes as his pleading turned pathetic.
As I was being assisted out of the room, I put too much strain on my throbbing left ankle and I nearly collapsed. William, my ultimate saving grace, caught me with ease. Without a word, he gracefully picked me up bridal style and proceeded to carry me out of the building like when we were first married.

Embarrassment burned my face, but I was just thankful to be alive. I had nearly experienced a fate worse than death, but now I was safe and my attacker was going to get exactly what he deserved.
Before we left, the EMS team diligently looked me over for any wounds and kindly gave me medicine for my injured ankle. Exhaustion plagued my body, but I still endeavored to give a tiring on-the-spot statement to an officer.
"Thank you, Miss West," said the officer, closing his notebook. "We won't rest until we find out who was behind all this."
My smile was weak, but hopeful. "Thank you, officer," I croaked, before following a surprisingly patient William to his car.
When William did me the courtesy of fastening my seatbelt, I had to wonder if I was hallucinating. Never had he treated me with such care after the divorce. The gentleness he had now was exclusive only to his beloved girlfriend and little George. My feelings were muddled, but I was thankful nonetheless.
He began to drive at a leisurely pace, with me tiredly riding beside him. We sat in complete silence, and I was hit with the realization that I didn't actually know where we were going.
"Where are you taking me?" I rasped, my voice raw from screaming into the tape. I should have been overwhelmed with anxiety just being next to him, driving to an unknown location, but I'd never felt safer.
"Home," he said simply. His voice was firm, yet there was a sincere, caring undertone to it." Our home."
I was stunned, for it wasn't lost on me that he'd deliberately called the villa "ours". What about Sophia? Didn't she live there, too?
Normally I would have been angry and frustrated at the mixed signals he gave me, but I was too exhausted to care. My heart was still beating and my face was unmarred, and that was all that mattered. Even still, his behavior puzzled me. What was in store for me when we got to his home?
