Chapter 0063

William's POV:

When driving on the road, it's starting to hit me all that's happened. Tonight, when my gaze fell upon the ominous text, I had to warn myself to stay away. This wasn't my phone I would be prying into, it was Sophia's. I loved her, and I had to respect her privacy, even if I was achingly curious. I wasn't going to betray her trust based on some foolish doubts.

All that trust and respect went out the window, however, when I saw the following text.

"Honey, I did it for you. Are you going to give me a reward for all my hard work?"

Rage swelled up inside of me like the rising tide. Was Sophia actually cheating on me? I didn't want to believe it, but the blatant proof in front of me was so hard to ignore.

Without a second thought, I opened her phone, quickly digging through the messages between my lovely fiancé and this strange man. A large majority of the messages were deleted, but the most recent (and most shocking) interactions were on full display.

Doing a quick flip through their chat history, I was horrified to see suggestive messages being shared between them. I searched with wide eyes, utterly transfixed as their talks gradually became more and more sexual in nature, and when I finally got to the very first picture of Sophia in lingerie, my heart stopped. How could she be so shameless?

I loved Sophia with all my heart, and to see her flirting with this man crushed me in ways I'd never known before. All her strange behavior was finally clicking together like puzzle pieces. Her long trips away, dodgy behavior, her lack of interest in intimacy - she had been cheating on me this entire time, hadn't she?

My heart was broken, and yet I couldn't stop scrolling, taking in more and more of their awful messages until I finally got to the last image. I clicked it, and my eyes blew open wide in shock at what I saw.

It was Caroline, unconscious and tied to a chair, a piece of duct tape planted firmly over her mouth. She looked like she had been roughed up pretty badly, as a couple fresh bruises marred her perfect skin.

I sat up in alarm, hardly believing my own eyes. Caroline had been kidnapped! Had Sophia instructed this man to do that? Where was Caroline?

Fury bubbled up inside my chest at the thought of anyone bringing harm to Caroline. When I finally found the scum who hurt her, I was going to chop off his hands for daring to lay a finger on her.

"William? What's wrong?" I heard from beside me. I whipped around to see Sophia rubbing at her eyes tiredly. She must have been startled awake by my panic. She focused her bleary gaze on me, her eyes lethargically trailing down until they saw her phone in my hands. Fear washed over her features in an instant.

"William, what are you doing?" she murmured, the picture of anxiety. She was struggling to appear sweet and innocent, but I had already seen enough. For too long I'd been tricked by that pretty face, but now I had wisened up to her deception.

"You better give me a good goddamn explanation for what all this is doing on your phone," I growled, thrusting the phone screen towards her Sophia cried out in panic and tried to wrestle the phone from me, but I held it far out of her reach, pushing her away and glaring at her with barely-restrained fury. "Explain!" I demanded again, my voice echoing around the room.

Sophia winced at my harshness and held her hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay!" she cried, tears springing up in her eyes. "I'll explain, I promise! He's an old ex-boyfriend of mine, I swear. After you and I got together, he got insanely jealous, and he's been threatening me!" "Threatening you?" I parroted, bewildered. She never told me she had such a toxic ex-boyfriend. Could I even believe her, though?

"Yes!" Sophia insisted. "He told me that if I didn't send those pictures regularly, he was going to expose our intimate photos online and even hurt our son! I had no choice, William, I swear!"

"And the picture of Caroline?" I demanded. "What about her?"

"I have no idea, I promise," she swore, the tears in her eyes glimmering crocodilian in nature. "He's crazy! He probably wants to get back at you for being with me. He's an insane man who would do anything to hurt me. Caroline is probably another victim, just like me. William, you have to believe me!"

I stared at her in disbelief, words failing to leave me. After some difficult deliberation, I came to a hard decision. "I don't know if I can believe you, Sophia. I need to rethink our relationship." Tears streaked down Sophia's cheeks and her voice cracked with sorrow. "William..."

"Enough," I snapped, unwilling to hear any more of her lies. "I don't even know if I can trust you anymore. I need to be away from you so I can think. As of now, we're separated. Now leave!" "But our wedding-!"

"Our wedding," I said indifferently, "is delayed indefinitely. Now get out of my house. We both need to calm down."
