Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0081
Caroline's POV:
"George? William? Where are you?" I cried out, rushing from room to room in search of the pair. Was I too late? Had the nanny already taken George? Where was William?
My heart pounded as I searched high and low for them, terrified that I was too slow and that something terrible had come to pass.
I had to have searched every room twice, and by the time I was finally coming to accept that the nanny had already carried out Sophia's awful plan, a curious voice interrupted my racing thoughts.
"Miss Caroline?" croaked an aged voice. It was a familiar one I hadn't heard in quite a while. I spun on my heel (the good one) to see Gerald, the butler. It was relieving to see a face I knew I could trust, but more importantly, cradled safe in his arms was little George. He smiled gummily at me and waved his little arms around with a giggle.
I placed a hand to my pounding heart, sighing in great relief that George was safe and sound. Without thinking, I strolled over to the infant and placed a tender kiss to his head, something that amused him greatly, if the giggles were anything to go by. He raised his soft little arms and made grabby hands at me, asking to be picked up and held by me. "Of course, dear. Come over here."
I gingerly lifted George from Gerald's hands, which he didn't protest. After placing George on a cocked hip and doting over his joyous little smile, I threw a glance over to the butler. "I haven't seen you in the past couple days. You've sure missed a lot of drama." Gerald chuckled fondly, a twinkle in his eye as he watched me handle George like a real mother would. "Yes, well, I had asked for leave for the past few days."
"That's nice," I replied, only making small talk as the gears in my head wound with confusion. "Wait, why are you with George?" Shouldn't George be with William? Why was he leaving the child care to the butler when his own son had only just been poisoned? "Ah, I only got here half an hour ago, you see," he answered simply. "Master William asked me to watch over little George here while he attended to something."
He attended to something? What could be more important than his own son? I wondered bitterly. "Did he say what it was?" I asked, a little curious. More so I needed to tell William what was happening with Sophia and the nanny.
The butler paused, no doubt straining to recall the billionaire's last words. I'm afraid he left too quickly," he disappointingly replied helplessly shrugging his shoulders. "I didn't hear him properly. However, if had to guess, it would probably have to do with the nanny."
Interest sparked in my eye at the mention of the nanny. Was it possible that William caught on to their scheme early on? "What about her?" I asked with a voice bordering on demanding. Thankfully, Gerald seemed to take no offense to my outburst. "She's been hurt quite severely in some sort of accident," he answered with worry plaguing his words.
"Hurt?" I parroted in shock. "Do you

know the details?" I was stunned by the revelation. I had only just seen her a little bit ago, back when she was scheming with Sophia, so it was jarring to hear that she had just been in a serious accident a short while ago.
Maybe it's divine retribution, I thought to myself, a small smile forming across my face at the knowledge that George was safe for now.
Perhaps she was punished by fate for falling for such evil temptations. Even if I hoped she would be okay in the end, it was soothing to know Sophia couldn't go through with her little fake kidnapping plot.
"I don't know the details, unfortunately," Gerald admitted with a look of deep sorrow. The poor man didn't know that the woman he was worrying over had almost callously stolen this innocent infant for her mistress' selfish gains.
For now, I needed to suppress any suspicions I had, because there was something far more important I needed to do: protecting George.
"Can I check the surveillance footage around the villa?" I requested, drawing a curious eye from Gerald.
"The surveillance footage?" he inquired. "Whatever for?"
My mind panicked and raced for an excuse. "I dropped my bracelet that William gave me," I lied smoothly. "I don't want to make him unhappy, so..."
Of course, it was all a ruse. What I really needed was solid, undeniable proof of the nanny poisoning little George, I could only get that, then I could prove to William that Sophia was a dangerous woman who needed to be kept from George at all costs.
