“You haven’t eaten breakfast yet, right? Here, eat it while it’s still warm,”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You have to eat something even if you are not hungry.

Your body is still going through a growth spurt, after all.”

As he spoke, Hector pushed the breakfast into Joey’s arms.

Having no choice but to take it, Joey stared at the food with pursed lips.

“Just eat the food, kid,” a man from the front passenger seat chimed in.

“Hector has never treated me as kindly as he did to you.

He even woke up early to buy you some breakfast.”

When he entered the car, Joey had been so deep in thought that he did not notice there was someone sitting in the front passenger seat.

He looked over and saw a familiar face.

“Long time no see, little guy.” It was Carson.

Frowning, Joey blurted, “Why are you here?”

Carson had dark bags under his eyes, indicating that he had not been sleeping well lately.

He yawned and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Why? Can’t I be here?”

Joey was far from amused by his response.

And he did not bother hiding it by pulling a long face.

“Didn’t you miss me? We haven’t seen each other for a long time.

I missed you, you know?” Carson teased, but Joey only gave him an unimpressed look.

“I don’t.”

“Such a cruel kid!” Carson clutched the fabric of his shirt above his chest.

Hector let out an exasperated sigh before knocking his stick on the backrest of the passenger seat.

“Stop that.

I didn’t ask you to come with us to act like an annoying brat.

Now, stop bothering Joey if you don’t want to suffer later.”

“Alright, alright.” Carson raised his hands in surrender.

Joey could not help but roll his eyes at the two.

On the surface, it looked like Hector was simply scolding Carson.

In truth, however, he just wanted to check Joey’s current mood.

He wanted to see if Joey was more amenable now to the idea of bailing his father out.

The trick was so obvious that Joey saw through it with just a glance.

He did not comment on it, though.

But seeing Carson made him relive the memory of his father refusing to acknowledge him in the hospital.
