CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1731
The patient's family rushed forward, shoving Karina hard. She fell to the floor, her forehead striking the edge of a corridor chair. A sharp pain shot through her, leaving her dizzy and disoriented.
Wilfred immediately crouched down to help her up. Seeing the blood trickling from her forehead, he shot a furious glare at the aggressors. "What do you think you're doing?"
One of the family members sneered. "What are we doing? You dare to ask? You're a worthless doctor! If it weren't for you, my daughter could've had a few more years to live. Now she's gone all because of you!"
Wilfred was stunned, but Karina's soft whimper of pain in his arms drew his attention back to her. Suppressing his anger, he glanced at the group advancing toward them.
Before they could close in, he swiftly lifted Karina into his arms, causing several nurses nearby to gasp in surprise. His icy glare swept over the furious family members.
"There's a limit to how far you can go. If you don't want this to escalate further, step back now."
His cold, commanding tone, combined with the intensity in his eyes, made the family falter. They hesitated, then grudgingly stepped aside to let him pass.
Wilfred carried Karina to the examination room without delay.
As they moved, Karina stirred slightly, her lashes fluttering before she slowly opened her eyes. Her voice was faint, trembling with desperation. "Dr. Wilfred... I didn't... Please believe me..."
Her pale face and unwavering plea stirred something in Wilfred. He couldn't suppress his frustration. "You're in this state, and that's still what you're worried about?"
"I'm sorry... I really am... so sorry..."
Wilfred's frown deepened as conflicting emotions surged within him. He had once admired Karina for her determination and professionalism, believing she had the potential to grow into an exceptional doctor. But when she attempted to drug him, disappointment overtook him. Now, seeing her vulnerability and selflessness, his feelings became a confusing mix of sympathy and exasperation.
Especially after witnessing her brave, reckless act of shielding him from the enraged family. Did she ever think about herself?
Shaking off his thoughts, he softened his tone. "Enough. Stop thinking about it. Let's get you checked out."
After the examination, it was confirmed that Karina had only suffered a mild concussion.
Half an hour later, with a bandage wrapped around her head, Karina sat quietly. Her fingers grazed the edge of the bandage as she glanced at Wilfred, now back in his white coat. His stern, unapproachable demeanor left her at a loss for words.
The things she had blurted out earlier were spoken in a haze of confusion, yet she couldn't shake the lingering shame.
Wilfred's gaze lingered on her, heavy and expectant.
"Lift your head," he instructed firmly. "And don't you think it's time you gave me an explanation?"
His words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken consequences. Karina hesitated, her head remaining bowed, like a guilty criminal unable to meet the eyes of her accuser.
Wilfred's irritation grew. "This is your
one chance. Think carefully. If you choose not to explain now, don't bother later I won't listen. And let me make this clear: this could impact your career."
Karina's heart sank, her pulse racing as she met his almost merciless gaze. "He's cutting her off, isn't he?" she wondered.
Her chest tightened at the thought. Yes, she had made a mistake, but all her efforts and dedication weren't fake. Was she truly going to let the pressure, shame, and guilt ruin the future she had worked so hard for?
The silence stretched unbearably. Wilfred's patience wore thin, his brows furrowing. "If you're not going to talk, I won't force you."
