Desert Heat Chapter 48
{Allie’s P.O.V.}
After finding out and verifying that all three of us were indeed pregnant, Sin and Mikey went to his parent’s house to share the good news, and Brandon and Leah went to his parents, but not before FaceTiming Leah’s parents.
“So, what did she say exactly?” Dorian asked me in reference to what Mercury told me about being able to sense other souls.
“Just that I can sense other’s souls. She said that our ability allowed me to sense that the babies existed in our friends,”
“Then why couldn’t you sense our baby’s?” he asked me
“Probably because I didn’t have my full powers yet…” I said to him. He just nodded and we walked to the kitchen to grab a snack.
“Hello, Alpha, Luna,” Katie greeted us.
“Hi, Katie. Where is Mrs. Johnson?” I asked her.
“She went on a grocery run. When she heard that all three of you were pregnant, congrats, by the way, so she figured she would cook a big feast for you all tonight,”
“Wait, how did you…”
“I think my mother spread the word,” Dorian responded cutting me off. I rolled my eyes and just laughed. Eleanor wasted no time in telling the whole pack all three ranked females were pregnant.
“Katie, hun, will you grab that mint cookie’s n’ cream ice cream from the freezer,” I requested. She kindly obliged and brought me my snack with two spoons. Dorian and I cheer with our spoons and dug in. We were enjoying our snack when an alarm and Dorian’s phone went off.
“s**t,” Dorian said while pulling out his phone. There was a news article that popped up. I watched as Dorian read it. His eyes went from confused, to shocked, to downright pissed off.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” I asked him. Dorian handed me his phone.
Big Bend Pack mourns the loss of their beloved Alpha Paul Harold. His body was discovered by humans late last night floating in Lake Mead. The cause of death is unknown at this time; however, human law enforcement is saying that it appears to be foul play. Big Bend will hold a memorial service for their fallen leader and his oldest son Tucker Harold will be named Alpha.
I look at Dorian as I finish reading this. Anger and worry are written all over his face.
“Dorian how can Tucker be named Alpha; we have a contract with them. He is supp…”
“Paul dying instantly voids the contract,” he said without letting me finish.
“I don’t understand,”
“Paul is the one who signed the contract with his name and his b***d. If the signer dies before the terms are met, it becomes void,”
“So, Tucker gets to have his Alpha ceremony after all,”
“He doesn’t need a ceremony. He gains the title automatically because he is the firstborn,” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“We’re not worried, right? I mean, Brandon said they have a really small pack, what kind of damage could they really do?” I asked him.
“Even if they are small, having an unstable Alpha such as Tucker makes them unpredictable. Tucker believes he is above our laws, and that could mean trouble for small and large packs alike. We will have to keep an eye out,” Dorian said. I couldn’t help but worry now. Tucker and his brother were more than unstable, they were dangerous, and we are on their shit-list. As if having sensed my concern, Dorian stood up and hugged me tightly.
“I don’t want you to worry, I want you to concentrate on our little Alpha in that belly of yours. The guys and I will do everything in our power to keep you and our children safe,” I nodded and leaned into his chest. I put one arm around his waist and put my other hand on my belly. I wasn’t going to worry, I was going to concentrate on my baby, our baby.
————THREE MONTHS LATER————
“Allie! Will you please stop running!?” Dorian shouted from the kitchen as I was running around the living room like a chicken with its head cut off. Today was the day of our gender reveal, all of our genders reveals.
“Nothing is ready! Why is nothing ready!?” I shouted back. The girls and I were all forbidden from doing anything regarding the party. The guys’ moms wanted to plan everything but being pregnant made me super anal with everything and I became the most annoying perfectionist to ever exist.
“Baby, our moms have everything under control. We still have two hours before the party is supposed to start, why are you rushing?”
“Because this is our first baby! All of ours! I just want it to be perfect!” I whined and pouted.
“Baby, stop,” he said hugging me. After the death of Big Bend Pack’s alpha, things were actually quiet. Rumor spread that Tucker took over, but that was about it. There was no evidence tying back to Paul’s killer, so we all figured it was just a stroke of bad luck for them.
“Allie, why can’t you relax like your sisters?” Amber said while holding a box full of balloons.
“I don’t know how! I want to help!” I whined.
“And mom and I forbid it! Now go sit your a*s down somewhere and sit still!” she shouted and walked into the backyard. It was the middle of November, so the weather was cool but not cold. The sun was shining bright, which made it the perfect early winter gender reveal.
Leah, Sin, and I all agreed for something neutral and low key, but the guys’ mom went all out. At the time of the gender reveal, all pack members were required to get off of work and attend or go home to stream it live. Although the three of us were all three months pregnant, I was the biggest. Being huge and pregnant didn’t stop me from doing s**t I wasn’t supposed to though which is why Dorian is constantly having to follow me around.
He caught me on a ladder the other day trying to decorate our corner of the nursery and he got mad at me for it. The only thing I was doing right was eating healthy, unlike Sin and Leah who were constantly caught eating junk food and getting bitched at by Dr. Quinn for it. Dorian eventually had to have Mrs. Johnson record everything we were eating and submit it to him and the guys. Mikey had to install cameras in the kitchen to make sure Sin wasn’t sneaking snacks.
Only I knew where they were though because, well, I knew what to look for. Also, unlike Sin and Leah, my morning sickness was only at night, and only lasted a couple of weeks. Sin’s lasted for ten weeks, and Leah’s has not ended. She still gets nauseous at the sight of food, yet somehow manages to eat a blueberry muffin every morning just fine.
Dorian and I went to his office so he could finish up signing some new contracts for Sam, Lucas, and a few other teams I don’t know. Sam was pretty bummed when she found she wouldn’t able to train me until after the baby was born, but was happy for me, nonetheless. Sam and I have gotten really close, and so has Dorian and Lucas on a less professional level. Sadly, I kind of gave up on Casey. I tried to hang out with her several times, but she would always make lame excuses for why she couldn’t or didn’t want to. I eventually stopped trying because I was sick of her flaking on me. Dorian and I ended up adding Sam and Lucas to our wedding party, which they happily agreed.
While Dorian was going over contracts, I was on the laptop finalizing excursions for our big joint bachelor-bachelorette party we were going to have mid next year. Dorian suggested we go during my birthday and just have one big a*s party. I wanted to keep it domestic because we would be leaving our baby, but Eleanor, Helena, and Bridget nearly bit my head off when I said that. They were more than happy to watch over their grandbabies while we went away to have fun.
After talking it over with the girls, we all settled on going to Atlantis in the Bahamas. Dorian and the guys could care less where we went as long as there was alcohol, food, and us women in skimpy bikinis. I was booking the final reservation for the yacht rental and the Bridge Suite. We settled on the Bridge Suite so that we could all stay in a super big hotel room, instead of having to chase each other down.
Having a filthy rich fiancé had its many perks. What I was spending on this trip would be made up with the contracts he was signing, and then some. Dorian’s company made money faster than we could spend it. Which, in a way, was a good thing. I decided that I would put off working at Dorian’s firm, especially with being pregnant.
“Okay, final reservation is done,” I said hitting confirm and receiving the confirmation number. “Our trip to the Bahamas next April is set, babe!” I shouted and leaned back. Dorian just smiled and continued reading over papers and signing away. I just watched him and rubbed my swelling belly. I felt a sharp kick to my kidneys,
“Ah f**k!” I said and grabbed my sides. My yelp caught Dorian’s attention.
“What’s wrong?”
“Your baby just kicked my kidney!” I shouted and winced.
“Oh, is that all?” he asked. I looked up at him and he was back to signing papers.
“Is that…Are you asking for an a*s-kicking, Dorian?” He looked back at me and just smirked. “This is your fault!” I said pointing to my stomach.
“Says the woman who is constantly wanting s*x,”
“You could just say no,” I spat.
“Remember the last time I told you ‘no’, Allie?” I thought for a minute and images of my seducing him at Mojave Mountain pack flooded my mind. I just smiled. That was the best quickie we ever had, other than the cabana, or the other day on the balcony. “Allie!” he pulled me out of my happy thoughts.
“That was different, I was in heat,” he rolled his eyes at me and just laughed and went back to work. I laid back and closed my eyes and hummed to our baby.
“Hey, you guys in here?” I heard a knock on the door. Amber walked in.
“Can’t you wait until I say, ‘come in’, Amber?”
“Why? It’s not like you were f*g her. The door would have been locked,” Amber said and came to sit with me. “What are you guys doing?”
“He’s working on contracts for some of the teams at the firm and I was just finalizing excursion reservations for the trip next April,” I told her showing her stuff I had planned.
“How long are you going to be gone?” she asked
“Well, I originally only wanted five days, but your mom and the other grandmas said we can take as long we wanted. So, we decided on nine days,”
“That’s long enough to do everything without rushing and not being away too long from the babies,” I nodded, and she gave me a side hug. “You done yet bro?”
“Signing my last one now,” a few seconds later, Dorian clicked his pen, and we all went to the backyard.
All of us got yellow sashes that said, “Mom to be” and the guys got green ones that said, “Dad to be.” All the grandparents got matching shirts that said Grandma or Grandpa to the future Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, respectively.
The majority of the pack were watching the live stream at home while those who lived in the packhouse joined personally in the backyard. There was still a good 50 people with us. We played games, ate a lot of good food, and we even had pink and blue margaritas for those who were able to drink. We were having such a good time, and the time finally came to reveal our babies’ genders.
Amber placed a box in front of us and we were going to go in ascending order. Sin was going to go first. She slowly opened her box, and out came a large black balloon tape to the box to prevent it from floating away. We all look at Amber, and she handed a small knife to Mikey and smiled. Mikey and Sin held the knife together and popped the balloon. Blue ribbons, streamers, and confetti everywhere.
“WHOOOHOOO!!!! IT’S A BOY!!!” Mikey jumped for joy. We all laughed and smiled at him. Sin was visibly upset because she wanted a girl.
Leah and Brandon were up next. They peeled open the box together, and sure enough, there was another black balloon. Mikey passed the knife and together, Leah and Brandon popped the balloon. More blue ribbons, streamers, and confetti scattered across the table. Brandon and Mikey went into bro hug mode and high fived each other. Brandon spun Leah,
“Brandon Kane! Put her down!” shouted Bridget. We all just laughed.
Dorian and I were excited to finally see what we were going to be having. I prepared to open the box, but suddenly, Leah fainted.
“Leah!” Brandon shouted. We looked down at her, and she looked more distraught than anything.
“Allie, don’t open that box!” she shouted. When she looked at me, her eyes were glowing bright red. We recently learned that Leah was able to detect imminent danger with her powers, whether it was something small like broken glass on the floor, or something major. Sin was able to read the thoughts of others but only in wolf form. It actually came in handy it was needed.
As we kept looking at Leah who was having trouble gathering herself, we heard a phone ringing from within the box,
“DORIAN!!”
“EVERYBODY GET DOWN!!” Within a split second, Dorian had me his arms and threw us off the platform the blast that went off shot us further than expected. I was overcome by darkness.
