Dr. Luna -
Chapter 56
Lilly and Avery were standing behind the men as they were all battling it out in the arcade, each one trying to win the largest prize to claim victory. The arcade owners would be happy with the exorbitant amount of money the men were spending. Lilly turned and looked in the distance at another game. It was a ring toss game, but one of the prizes was an all-black wolf that was the size of her. "OOHHH Avery look! I want that." Lilly pointed at the wolf at the other stand. The men turned around and eyed what Lilly was pointing at.
"Hey Lills." Kade said with a smirk. "How about you have to ride the Ferris wheel alone with whoever wins that for you." An evil glint in his eye beamed towards Tyler.
"Sounds good to me. May the best man win." Lilly winked over at Tyler, she knew he was going to be desperate to win.
"Looks like I'm going to be having a Ferris wheel date with the princess." Tristan said as he cracked his neck to the side.
"I'll win it for you Lilly, but if it's all the same to you, I'll pass on the ride with you. I'd rather take my girl." Caleb winked at Avery whose cheeks heated red. It didn't matter how long they were together; they were still very much in love. The guys were tossing rings like crazy. All just wanting to win and claim victory.
"Well, that's one way to get what you want." Avery teased.
"You feeling better now Ave?" Lilly watched Avery nod happily.
"I guess I felt really creeped out and I can't explain it. I feel better now and sort of dumb for how I reacted." Avery shrugged her shoulders and smiled. She did feel silly now that she thought about it. He didn't even touch her, just made her feel uncomfortable by being too close. And then there was the weird comment.
"That's understandable. Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you are feeling back to normal again. This is our fun day." Lilly looked back over at their crazy, competitive, group of guys. She loved her family so much, tempers and all.
Tristan turned and beamed victoriously as he held the big black wolf in his hands. "Looks like I get the princess all to myself for a ride." He grinned over at the scowling wolf.
"Cheer up Alpha. If you promise to behave yourself, I'll let you take me on the Ferris Wheel with you." Kade said and batted his eyes up to Tyler. "I mean it though, don't get fresh with me. I am saving myself for my mate." "Ride with Cedric. I'm not riding it. I'll wait for you guys at the bottom." Tyler scowled wanting to ride with Lilly.
Lilly walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. "You might not have won, but you still have me at the end of the day." Lilly tiptoed up and pressed her lips into his. She felt his arms wrap around her lower waist, pulling her deeper into him.
"I'll be waiting for you at the bottom." Tyler whispered lowly into her lips. He looked up to the group. "Let's get this ride over with." He escorted Lilly all the way until she boarded the ride with Tristan and then stood off to the side. He could share her for a ride, even though his child like self didn't want to.
Lilly was looking out the window as the wheel slowly began to spin. She was taking in
the sights of the park and watching the people running around down below. She caught sight of Tyler and smiled at her pouting mate.
"You going to tell me what they did to you?" Tristan was looking out the window as his voice tersely asked.
"Tristan. I said not to worry about it." Lilly sighed in irritation.
"Well I am worrying about it. What happened?" He turned his eyes onto hers and
pinned into her green orbs.
"Tristan, you are my guardian, but not everything about my life needs you to act as a
buffer. I can handle myself too, you know? I know you are saying this out of concern... I appreciate your concern. I really do. But this is nothing for you to worry about. I handled it. So please drop it before I get angry." Lilly's green eyes burned threateningly towards him. This was his warning to drop it.
Tristan chuckled as he looked at the fairy princess who was glaring at him angrily. "Lilly, I told you before. If I am happy, it is for you. If I am sad, it is for you. If I am hurt, it is for you. And if I am angry, it is for you. I can't help how my emotions are connected with yours. I can't help how protective I am over you. I am much more then your guardian, your protector. I am your friend Lilly. I'm your family. I am the one who will never abandon you. When I know there is something bothering you, I can't just let it go. I'm sorry." Lilly listened to him quietly. She understood what he was saying, but he wasn't factoring in her. He wasn't understanding her. There were somethings that she needed to handle on her own. She wasn't the damsel in distress. She wasn't the girl who needed to cry to a guy to fix her problems. She was a fighter. If this was a demon issue, it would be different. This was something she did handle herself already. It was over. There was no need to keep talking about it again. Especially, when she knew the moment the mate link was back she would be hearing about it from Tyler.
"I understand what you are saying. Now hear what I am saying. There are some things that I can take care of by myself. That I don't need you to know about or interfere in. This is one of those things." Lilly's voice was quiet, and she calmly got out the main point. All she was asking for was for him to understand that some things she could take care of on her own.
"Lilly, just tell me what happened?" Tristan said with a bit of irritation in his voice. She didn't get it. It was his job to protect her. He was bound to her. If something happened to her it might as well be like it happened to him.
Lilly let out a breath as she turned her head and looked out the window of the ride. They were both not understanding the other.
"Tristan. I'm on the verge of getting angry. So, let it go." This was Lilly's last warning; he wasn't hearing her. All he cared about was answers. Would it have hurt to tell him? No. But that wasn't the point. The point was that she asked him, she asked him nicely to let it go. And he didn't. She didn't understand him exactly, but he wasn't understanding her either.
"Well then get angry at me. I'm going to protect you. I don't care if you get angry about that or not, but I am going to do my job. Now tell me what the heck happened." Tristan growled at Lilly. Raising his voice at her for the first time ever.
"Now I'm someone so important to protect? Now it is so important to know about my business. Where were you for the last twenty years? When I could have really used having a good friend?" Lilly's eyes flickered at him angrily. She watched out the window as Avery and Caleb exited their cart. Their cart would be next.
"Lilly, I wanted to be there with you. I had to get myself and temper under control. All I ever wanted was to be near you. I just want to protect you. Please, I am trying to protect you." Tristan's eyes softened looking at her. He didn't want to fight with her. All he wanted was to keep her safe and happy. She was the only fairy princess. She couldn't be replaced. She had to understand her importance... not only to the fairy kingdom, but to him too.
"And I am trying to live a life here Tristan. I have a life to live and I haven't been living it. I've been blocked out, locked up. I have missed out on so much and in so many different aspects. So what if I had to tell a couple of guys to take a hike? That isn't public business. It is just a part of life. I can handle it, let me handle it. If there was a serious threat I would have told you." Lilly felt the rock of the bucket as it stopped to let them off.
Tristan's eyes were dark as he stared back at Lilly. "Did they try something on you."
That was all he heard? Her whole rant and he didn't listen. "Damn it, Tristan. Just give me space." Lilly hopped out and stormed away from him. She had so much to say and he couldn't take his blinders off to see her pouring her heart out. She wasn't able to conceal the anger on her face. Not that Tristan's dark glare helped keep things discreet. The group looked between them. It was obvious that they were fighting.
"Lilly? Everything okay?" Tyler placed his arm around her before looking back up towards Tristan.
"Just tired of not being listened to." Lilly's voice was flat and dry as she spoke.
Cedric looked up at Tristan. "What the hell did you do?"
Tristan snorted and folded his arms. "Just looking for answers."
Lilly felt her fists ball up as she flashed her gaze back to Tristan. "No, you are just looking for an excuse to get into a fight. I gave you answers, you just didn't care to listen. I can handle some things on my own. So let me! I don't need you to be my white knight. You don't have to jump in front of every sword that is pointed in my direction."
"You're downplaying your importance. You don't get it. You're it. It's just you. You can't be replaced. You have a whole kingdom that is depending solely on you. It is my job to make sure nothing and I mean nothing happens to you. But you want to get mad at me for being a bit overprotective? No, I'm not being protective enough! You want me to neglect my role just so you can fill this need of being able to take care of yourself. Forget it. You are the one being irresponsible." Tristan snapped back at Lilly. If something happened to her it would fall back on him. 'Why didn't he do his job at protecting her?' 'Because she said she could take care of herself'... yeah that wouldn't work.
"Nice, so disregard what I am saying entirely? Who cares what I think or what I have to say about anything? It doesn't matter, because you have a job to do. No more thought to it than 'Sorry you feel this way Lilly, it's just a damn shame... oh well when's lunch?"" Lilly's voice mocked Tristan's.
"Whoa whoa whoa you two... where the heck is this all coming from?" Tyler squeezed his arm around Lilly's shoulder and looked into his mates hurt eyes.
"I just need some space." Lilly said quietly.
"Want to walk with me to the washroom toots?" Avery extended her arm towards Lilly who took it with a sad smile. Tyler watched the two girls walk away before turning his dark gaze towards Tristan. "What the hell was that about?"
