Chapter 1771

Jonathan spilled the beans to Charlie about Gina's actions of taking Kya away. Charlie was taken aback, a glint of cold fury flickering in his eyes. He nodded briefly, "I need to calm Emily down first. We'll deal with the rest later"

They talked late into the night. As Jonathan was heading to the Bright Commercial Center, Charlie felt a pang of jealousy.

Once returning home, Charlie was tempted to check on Kya. But realizing everyone might be asleep, he held back. He retired to his own bedroom, sleep eluding him. He sat on the balcony, smoking, contemplating whether to call Emily. He didn't want to disturb her if she was already asleep.

She had a fright today, and with Kya's identity being exposed, her emotions must have been on a roller coaster.

It was best to let her have a good night's sleep.

Charlie found himself reminiscing about the first time he met Emily. The ups and downs of their relationship felt like a lifetime ago yet so fresh and vivid. Jonathan was right. Perhaps this was the best arrangement.

At least now, he understood Emily, and his own unwavering commitment to their relationship.

He chain-smoked, his thoughts consumed by Emily. Unconsciously, time slipped away, and the sky began to lighten. The lights in the courtyard dimmed, and the first hint of dawn peeked in. The world, silent through the night, was about to spring back to life.

Emily, too, had a sleepless night, tossing and turning. She was too scared to consider her future with Charlie.

Her biggest worry was Kya. As dawn approached, she dozed off, only to be startled awake by a dream of Kya calling for her mother.

She woke up to find a message from Charlie. She held the phone tight, reading his message on WhatsApp.

Charlie had sent a picture of Kya, sleeping peacefully with her cherub-like face nestled on a silk children's pillow.

[Missing Kya?] he had written.

Emily's vision blurred. She blinked hard and replied, [I'll do anything you ask, just return Kya to me.]

Charlie wrote back, [Anything? Then let's get married today.]

Emily felt a sense of defeat. [Anything but that,] she replied.

[That's the only thing I ask. Think about it.] Charlie wrote back.

Frustrated, Emily flung her phone onto her bed in anger.

It was Thursday, and she had work. After washing up and stepping outside, she found Estelle bringing in breakfast.

Estelle, dressed in her workout gear, had just returned from a run with Jonathan. Seeing Emily's groggy state, she chuckled, "Don't look so down. Have breakfast first."

Emily sat down. Without Kya, she felt empty and restless.

"Don't worry about Kya. Charlie loves her and will take good care of her,' Estelle reassured her.

"I just miss Kya," Emily replied.

"If Charlie doesn't bring Kya back by tomorrow, I'll accompany you to the James family" Estelle said, handing Emily a bowl of porridge. "Right now, you need to pull yourself together. Only then can you think clearly about what needs to be done."

"Okay," Emily replied.

Throughout the workday, Emily tried to immerse herself in her tasks. Regardless of the circumstances, she was determined not to give up on Kya.

In the afternoon, during a brief respite, Emily messaged Charlie, [Please return Kya first, then we can talk.]

Charlie replied almost instantly. [Okay. Meet me at the Royal Mansion after work.]

The Royal Mansion?

Emily was taken aback. She replied, [Alright.]
