Chapter 39

Lily’s POV

Holy hell, my head is killing me. I slowly open my eyes, and panic takes over me. I’m upside-down. Why am I upside-down?

The memories came back to me of being rear-ended and another car heading straight towards us.

I try to look at the driver seat to see if Ben is okay and I don’t see him. My heart rate increases. I couldn’t help but think that maybe he got flung from the car. I couldn’t remember if he had his seatbelt on or not.

f**k, I can’t link I must have a concussion.

I finally heard some faint voices. “Uncle Remi, what are you doing here? Are you one of the cars that tried to run us of the road?”

Thank Goddess, it’s just Remi. I started to yell. “BEN, Ben, get me out of here.”

I heard footsteps head towards me. Ben got down on his hands and knees to look at me. “Lily, you okay?”

“Yes , just get me out of here.”

“Okay, just hang on.

Panic sunk in me a little more. My pups, my poor, poor pups. “Ben, please hurry. My pups. Ben, please.”

He crouched back down again, and we locked eyes. “Sweetie, you have to stay calm. I’m going to have to tear the door off. Remi will help me cut your seat belt and pull you out.”

I covered my ears and heard a loud crunch sound . Remi and Ben both crouched down. Okay, Lil, Remi is going to cut your seatbelt, and I’m going to catch you. Just wrap your arms around me neck.

I nodded. I heard the snip of the seat belt and felt myself drop slightly. Ben caught me and pulled me out slowly. He carried me to a large rock near the side of the road.

Ben crouched down again, so he was level with me. He took his thumb and wiped the b***d off the side of my head that was dripping down. “Let me get a look at you. Besides the head wound, how are you feeling?”

“I’m okay. I just want to get back to the pack house and get my pups checked out. I can feel them kicking, but I want to be sure.”

He looked down at my stomach. He was probably trying to figure out how he hadn’t noticed. He redirected his eyes to look at the ground. I could tell he was feeling some kind of emotion. I just couldn’t figure out what.

I did something completely unexpected. I even shocked myself. I took his hand and placed it on my stomach and laid my hand on top of his. His eyes lit up when he felt the baby kick and placed both hands on my stomach.

He couldn’t contain his smile. He locked eyes with me, with tears in his eyes. “I always thought you would be carrying my pups.”

“I used to think the same thing. It’s funny how things work out. “

He nodded. “You keep saying pups, are you and Myles having twins?”

“Yeah, we are, which is just crazy to me.

“I’m happy for you Lily, you will be an amazing mom.”

I didn’t know what to say, so I just smiled. “Ben, what is Remi doing here? He’s supposed to he with my mom.”

He looked at me confused. “What do you mean.”

“It means I need to trust you and tell you everything.”

Before I could start to tell him, Remi came over. “Okay, so whoever ran you off the road hasn’t headed back this way yet. Im not sure where the rogues would have gotten a car or if it was even them. Every time I’ve followed their trail, there were never any vehicles around, but who knows.”

I was beyond confused and irritated. “Remi, what are you doing here. Does my mom know you left the palace?”

He looked from me to Ben and back towards me.

I got annoyed easily. “I’m going to tell him everything. Now, what’s going on? Why are you here?”

“The king has me following you. They didn’t want to alarm you, but your grandfather is very paranoid. He doesn’t want to lose you again.”

I got pissed. I’m not pissed that they were following me around. I’m pissed they didn’t stop to help my friends with the rogues. “Why didn’t you help us fight when we were being attacked?”

“Same reason you didn’t shift. You were protecting your pups, and I was sent to protect and follow you. When do you plan on telling your mom or your grandparents for that matter?”

“I wanted to tell my mom in person.”

“They need to know Lily, especially with the rogues planning an attack. They need to know you can’t defend yourself properly. “

I sighed. I knew he was probably right. I just hated that I couldn’t tell my mom the way I wanted to. But she would be more worried about mine and the pups’ safety.

Ben sat on the rock next to me. “What am I missing, Lily? I thought you didn’t know where your mom was? Why does my uncle know everything?”

“Ben, I know this is confusing…” I didn’t get anymore out when he scooped me up and took me into the woods. “What is it?”

“One of the guys, Remi, came with linked him saying there are headlights coming our way.”

Ben kept me in his arms, and we stayed hidden. The car came to a stop, and I saw Brody jump out. I heard him yell. “Holy f**k, Lily, Ben, where are you guys? s**t this is so bad. Louise, I see b***d.”

I didn’t think to have Ben link them with everything that just happened. Ben carried me out of the woods. “I’m okay, well were okay.”

Myles came running up in wolf form and shifted quickly. He practically ripped me out of Ben’s arms. He saw the b***d, and he was ready to kill. He looked at Ben. “What the hell did you do? Were you trying to kill her?”

I grabbed his neck and brought his face to me, so he was looking at me. “This wasn’t Ben’s fault. We had one car hit us from behind and another coming straight to us. We’re lucky this wasn’t any worse.”

Louise yelled from the car. “We don’t have time for this. Lily, if you’re okay, we have to get to the pack hospital. We got Amber breathing again, but it’s bad. come on, hop in.”

Myles carried me to the passenger seat and kissed my forehead. “I’ll see you at the hospital, baby.” He kissed my stomach and walked away. Brody got in back. Louise sped off. I looked out the window behind me, and it looked like Myles and Ben were going to rip eachothers throats out.

I looked at Louise. “What happened to her?” She looked behind at Brody like she was unsure if she should tell me right now.

Brodys voice cracked. “A rogue was headed towards my neck, and she jumped in between us. Honestly, the rogue would have probably killed me if he wasn’t startled by Amber jumping between us. She saved my life.”

I gasped when I saw the bloody shirt pressed by her shoulder and neck. “How bad is it?”

He choked out. “It’s bad, Lil.” I couldn’t help the guilt that was consuming me. This is all my fault. I put a target on all our backs.

We pulled into the pack house, and Louise pulled straight up to pack hospitals’ entrances. Brody must have linked them that we were coming because Doctor Mel and Doctor George came out with a wheel chair and stretcher.

Myles came running to the car door in a pair of basketball shorts before Doctor Mel could even open it.

He scooped me up in his arms. I wrapped my hands around his neck and kissed him. “Hey baby, let’s go get you and our pups checked out.”

He looked at Doctor Mel. “Where to doc?”

She gave a small smile. “Well, i guess we don’t need the wheel chair then. Right this way.”

Myles placed me down on the hospital bed and brushed some of my hair out of my cut.

That Doctor asked what happened, and I gave as little detail as I could. Just basically, someone drove straight into us, and we thought it was the rogues from the club.

She nodded. “Okay, well, I know you said you felt the pups move, but let’s make sure that they’re both okay. Your head wound looks good, im just going to add a little glue to keep it together to heal, but it’s already started to. You were right about the concussion, and you should be able to link again in the next day or two.

She got the ultraound machine out and put on the cold jelly. Myles grabbed onto my hand, and both of us clearly tensed up.

Doctor smiled. “Okay, baby. A looks good so far. Are we wanting to know the gender?”

Myles and I both looked at each other, and we nodded at the same time.

“Okay, baby , A is a boy!”

Myles was smiling from ear to ear. “And baby B? How is baby B?” His voice cracking slightly.

“Baby B is doing just fine, and baby B is a girl!

Myles kissed my forehead and my cheeks and held me close. I hadn’t even realized that the doctor had left.

He pecked my lips again. “I’m so excited. Boy and a girl. It’s perfect. I’m just warning you now, though I want more than just two pups even if we already have one of each. “

I smiled so big at him, but my smile sunk when I came to the realization that I was having a girl. I had royal b***d in me, which means this baby could easily go through what I’ve gone through.

It was generations before a girl was born again with royal bloodline, and now two in one lifetime is even more unheard of.

I started to panic. Myles looked at me confused when my face pailed and my heart rate picked up. “Baby, what’s wrong? I thought you would be so thrilled?”

“I am, but we’re having a girl.”

“Yeah, I know. I don’t get it, baby.”

I scrunched my eyebrows. “A girl with the royal bloodline.”

He sat back down. “Oh,” was all he said, the realization hitting him like aton of bricks.

He pulled me to his chest.”She will be protected, sweetheart. We can keep the gender a secret from everyone. Only if you want to?”

I nodded. “Probably what’s best. We can least tell our family and close friends. But I think other than that, no one else . My pregnancy will get out there soon. It’s getting harder to hide. We can just tell everyone else that’s it’s a surprise.”

“I like it, baby. We can start talking names now.”

I kissed his cheek. “I love how excited you are. But I just can’t help but worry what the rogue king will do when he realizes I’m marked and you already have whatever power I may give you. Would he kill me? Or will he try to take our daughter for the same reason he tried to take me?”

Myles sat quiet for a while. “Then I need to kill him.”

We both got a link that Amber was going to be in surgery for a while. “I guess we better get comfortable.”

“Myles, Ben knows too much. I plan on telling him everything. I really think we can trust him. He seems to be trying to change, and i really do think he could help. Especially if your talking about killing the rogue king.”

I felt his whole body tense up against me. “What if he hasn’t? What if he runs and tells his mom everything? Then what do we do? Because your life and the twins life would be at risk, and I’m not sure I’m willing to take that risk. “

“Well, I don’t think we have much of a choice but to trust him. He already knows some. I would rather tell him than him to go looking for the answers elsewhere. Like him asking his mom. She’s not on to us yet and I would like to keep it that way and now that he knows Remi knows everything and Luna claims he’s missing, but she honestly thinks he’s dead and we need to keep it that way.”

He grabbed the binge of his nose and sighed. I think he knew I was right. ” I really hope you’re right about this, Lily.”

We walked out to the waiting room, and Sylvia and Gamma Kevin had scared expressions on their faces.”The twins are okay.”

Sylvia pulled me in a tight hug. Thank you, moon goddess. You’re never leaving the pack again till this is all figured out. But how are you dear, are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m okay. Just a concussion. I won’t be able to link for a few days. But all things considered, I got lucky. Now, how is our girl doing? Is there any news?”

“It should be anytime now.”

We all settled in the sitting area. Way too exhausted to hold a conversation. It was nearly morning now.

Dr. George came out of the operating room. “She pulled through great. Just has a lot of healing to do. I’m recommending she be on bed rest for the next week and to continue to wear the sling. The wound will need cleaned three times a day until it’s completely closed. I liked to keep her for another day. But other than that, there’s no complications. She should wake up in a few hours. “

We all slumped back in our chairs. Tonight could have gone very differently. We got lucky. From now on, I plan on staying put. No matter how boring it gets, and I don’t think Amber will complain again about being bored.

Myles kissed my cheek. “Let’s get you to bed. You just got in a wreck. You and the pups need to rest.”

I yawned. “I’m not even going to argue. I’m exhausted, babe.”

We said our goodnights to everyone, and on the way out, Myles walked up to Ben. “Soon as Amber is out of the hospital and feeling up to it, i would like to sit down and talk and tell you what’s going on.”

“That sounds great, Myles.” Myles reached his hand out, and Ben shook it. Well, this seems to all be heading in the right direction.

Myles POV

It just about killed me to let Lily drive off with Ben. I knew it was the only way for her to get out of here safely. I just wanted to be the one who was keeping her safe. I knew Ben would protect her with his life. I just had to swallow my pride in that moment.

I used all the built-up rage i had and slayed through the rouges. They didn’t have a chance. They put my girl and my pups in danger, and I wasn’t about to let them hand them to their fuckign king and his twisted son.

We had the majority of them killed off when I saw a rogue headed straight towards Brodys neck. He would have had him if it wasn’t for Amber, and I have no doubt in my mind that we would be taking him home in a body bag. He was already fighting off two others at the same time. He’s a good fighter. He’s just not as good as me and Landyn. Hell, no one is as good as Landyn he can take on six or seven just on his own.

I ran towards Brody and Amber, but I got there too late. The rogue had ripped out part of her shoulder and neck. She never actually shifted. She was just as good with her blades as she was in wolf form. I took her body in my arms and started to panic. We had no way to get her back to pack, and running in human form would take too long.

Louise and Conner came running up hand in hand. I’ll have to remember to ask him about that later. Louise crouched down next to me. “I have my car we can take that.”

Louise ran off to get her car and parked it right I front of us. She jumped out in jean shorts and a T-shirt. She tossed Brody some shorts and opened the back door. “Let’s go.” I picked her up slowly. Brody climbed in first, and I placed her head on his lap.

Landyn came up next to us. “There’s more rogues coming. You guys take off, and we will follow close behind in wolf form.”

We all shifted back and followed the car on the right side in the woods so we could stay slightly hidden. I’ll give it to Louise that girl can drive fast and steady.

We got a link from a Brody that Amber stopped breathing, and he was giving her CPR in the back of the car. Brodys voice sound torn and was cracking when he spoke.

I kept running full force. The worry and panic rushed through my body for my poor sister. We may bicker, but I love her. She’s my twin, my best friend. I can’t lose her like this.

Landyn linked Ben for me. I couldn’t tell Lily. Not yet, not like this. This would break her. She would completely blame herself for everything.

Brody sighed in relief. “She’s breathing again. she’s okay.”

I relaxed a little, knowing in the moment that Amber was okay. I tried to link Lily, but she had a block put up. No one could link her. Why the hell would she do that? I couldn’t help but wonder what she was doing with Ben. They had to be getting close to the pack house if they weren’t back already. I know how Ben can drive.

Louise car came to a quick hault, and Brody jumped out. That’s when I saw it. Ben’s car was completely flipped over and practically smashed to nothing.

I heard Brody call out for Lily and Ben. s**t that meant they weren’t in the car. I prayed to the moon goddess that they weren’t flung from the car when it rolled.

I got to Brodys’ side and watched Ben carry Lily bridal style out of the woods. Her hands were wrapped around his neck in what seemed in an intement way. But maybe my jealousy was just getting to me.

I ran up to them and scooped up my girl out of his arms. I saw the b***d running down Lily’s face, and my wolf and I were ready to kill. Our mate was hurt, and he seemed to be the cause of it.

Lily calmed me down. She brought my face down to hers and briefly explained to me what had happened, and she said it wasn’t his fault. But me and my wolf were still ready to kill.

Louise shouted for us to get Lily in the car so we could get her and Amber checked out.

I placed her softly into he passenger seat and kissed her forehead. I didn’t want to let her go. If the pack house wasn’t a little distance away, I would have just carried her. But her safety came first, and this was the fastest option.

Louise speed off with my sister, Lily, and Brody.

Ben and I were left in the middle of the road, staring at each other.

Ben spoke first. “Myles, im really happy for you. I can’t believe you will be the first to be a dad.”

If I hadn’t just reacted badly to Lily choosing me over him awhile back, I might actually believe he was being genuine.

My chest was moving up and down quickly, and i was taking deep breaths, trying to keep my wolf from taking over and killing him. I knew if I killed a f*****g alpha my pups would be with out a dad and if I didn’t succeed properly I would still be dead and he would swoop in and take my place as my pups dad and as Lilys mate. Maybe that’s been his plan all along get Lily back.

Landyn came and stood in between us, facing me. “Myles, this isn’t the time or the place. Lily needs you. Your pups need you. Let’s go.”

I nodded at Landyn and shifted, not saying another word to anyone and headed for the pack house. I got there in record time and slipped on a pair of basketball shorts that were on a tree branch, right outside the packhouse.

I met Lily at the car door and scooped her up, and carried her inside. I wasn’t going to let her out of my sight again.

I sat her on the hospital bed that Doctor Mel led us to. As soon as I heard their little heartbeats, I released a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. I was so relieved to know that they were okay. All three of them were okay. I almost lost my whole world, and I’m not going to let it happen again.

Dr. Mel told us the gender of both pups and I could contain my excitement. I had a gut feeling that we were going to have one of each, and my instincts were right.

Lily seemed excited at first, but her face pailed. She honestly looked like she was going to be sick. I couldn’t help but worry she was starting to regret getting pregnant.

I finally but the dots together after she mentioned “A girl with the royal bloodline.”

Now I understand why she looked like that. We knew that soon as the rogue king found out Lily was marked, he would be pissed because now he couldn’t get what he wanted from her. We didn’t have a set plan, but my dad said that Lily’s grandpa wanted to lure the rogue king out and kill him and his son, so the threat would be over with. But if the rogue king found out about our daughter and escaped, he would always be after us. I knew in that moment that I had to be the one to kill him. I had to end this for my family.

We walked out to the waiting room, and we were greeted by mom and dad. My mom looked wrecked. Her daughter and her daughter in law both injured. We still didn’t know who caused the wreck, but I couldn’t see how it wasn’t the rogues. It would make the most sense. It was to convenient not to be. Even if they are not known to drive cars.They might have changed their ways at the chance to snatch Lily.

Lily reassured my mom that her and the twins were okay, and we settled in chairs waiting for any news on Amber. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get Lily to bed till she got out of surgery. Even if I desperately wanted her to lay down for the sake of the pups.

She rested her head on my shoulder, and I felt her start to doze off when Doctor George came out of the operating room. I saw Lily’s expressions relax, and she really started to look tired. I think hearing Amber was okay was enough for her to start to crash out.

We said goodnight to everyone, and on the way out, Ben was sitting on the chair closest to the door. I hadn’t even noticed he was in here before. It actually meant a lot to me that he waited with us to make sure Amber was okay. I knew they talked at the club, and I’m glad they seem to be working through their problems. I sighed, realizing if Amber could try to make amends with Ben, then I really should to.

I mentioned to Ben about meeting up and talking when Amber was more up for it, and he actually seemed pleased and Honeslty slightly excited. i shook his hand, and he smiled at me. Its hard to believe that two years ago, I would have said we were best friends. Here lately, we’ve been more strangers than anything, but maybe we’re on the right track. Lily says she’s trusts him, and I trust Lily. So, hopefully, the trust is in the right place.

We headed towards our room upstairs, and Lily’s walking slowed down tremendously. I picked her up, and she instantly layed her head on my chest and drifted off to sleep. When we went to our room, I slipped her dress off and put on one of my t-shirts. I swear she was passed back out before her head hit the pillow. I tucked her in and kissed her forehead. I wasn’t sure if i could fall asleep. My head was just spinning with all the possibilities of who could have been in those cars. it will haunt me until i figure it out. I ended up passing out in one of the arm charms just watching over Lily and our pups.
