Lily’s POV

There were only five days before my pretend birthday party. Or whatever we should call it.

My nervousness was building up, and I just felt like a beached whale. The pups really could come at any time.

Landyn, Conner, and Louise had left to try to hunt down, this witch named Esme. Landyn got her name from Lunas’ thoughts at the hospital.

Ben’s was sharing a room with Landyn, but since he left, we told Ben to stay in our room, and then tomorrow, he would stay with Brody and Amber.

He’s been too scared to be alone on the alpha floor with his mother after he learned she would have killed him if I hadn’t been able to heal him. He’s not sure how far she would take things if he were to be alone.

Landyn came to terms with Ben and him sharing a sister. Ben, on the other hand, was having a hard time processing everything.

Ben had been debating telling his dad. None of us knew what the right answer was. Alpha Rodger hasn’t even approached Landyn about being his son yet, and if he learns he has a daughter, he might take things into his own hands and kill Meghan.

Truthfully, we needed the attack to happen. To get my dad out and to kill the Rogue king and on top of all that Landyn wanted to get Maddy. We figured she would stay behind where my dad was. We already wrote a letter to my mom adding the extra addition that needed to be looked for. My mother and grandparents had no problem saving the child.

Myles was getting impatient. We hadn’t heard from Landyn and them all day, and we were starting to get worried. It should have only taken them about three hours to get there, and it had almost been seven hours.

If they couldn’t find Esme, we needed to come up with another plan.

We couldn’t even go down to the dining hall without Myles and Ben wanting to rip Lunas’ throat out.

We weren’t sure if Luna was still wanting to have Myles killed now that Brooke was gone or if giving him and I both potions that would make us forget about each other was enough revenge. But Myles was done after she had the idea of having her rogue son claiming and raising our pups.

I have to give it to her. She came up with an even more evil plan than I thought she was capable of, but then again, she was willing to kill her own flesh and b***d.

We all decided to take it easy tonight. Brody and Amber brought up pizzas, and we started watching some nerdy Star Wars movie that Brody just “had” to watch. While we all sprawled out the our couch. Ben sat on the floor, I think he was uncomfortable by all of us because he didn’t have a mate of his own.

I hope he finds love again. He really deserves it. More than ever now. I never thought we would get here. I never thought we could even be friends again, let alone be in the same room.

I fully trusted him now. Truth is, I couldn’t picture my life without him.

Towards the end, Ben started to get chocked up. He put his head to his knees. “I can’t kill my mom, you guys. One of you will have to do it. “

I sat up from laying front Myles shoulder. “Ben, we don’t know if it will come down to that.”

Part of me knew it would.

“Yes, we do, Lily. We all know she can’t walk away from this. She’s done too much and is continuing to do it. It can’t be Landyn. I dont think he would handle killing our little sisters mother very well. If she ever found out, she would hate him. “

Amber sat up from laying her head on Brodys lap. “You’re right, Ben. She won’t stop, and I think that’s the only way to end this. To kill her and the rogue king. But it can’t be someone she suspects. I think it should be me in human form.”

Brody practically shouted. “No! She’s got too many tricks up her sleeves, and there’s witches involved. Look what just happened to Ben. This woman is evil. Look what she did to her own son. She won’t hold back with you, and let’s face it, the luna hates your guts.”

Amber placed both hands into Brodys. We usually don’t see the softer vulnerable side of her. “I have to. She’s probably expecting one of you guys to take her out. She will think that it would be easier. She won’t see me coming. I’ll use my daggers.”

I saw Ben flinch slightly. Goddess, my heart hurt for him.

Brody shook his head. “I don’t like this. I don’t like this one bit.”

“We can have Landyn listen to her thoughts again when he gets back. But this definitely seems like the safer option for everyone else. Plus, I’m not going to let them take Lily or my niece and nephew. I’ll be dead before I let that happen.”

I felt the guilt rush through me. I didn’t want anyone dying for me. I hate being an easy target, and now that Luna and I’m assuming the rogue king know I can’t shift, they know I’ll be a lot easier to take.

Ben put his hand on my knee and gave me a small smile. We both shared guilt in this, and both felt somewhat responsible.

I heard Myles phone ring, and we all jumped to the edge of our seats, and Ben was now standing.

Myles shook his phone at us, showing us Landyns name on the screen.

“Hey man, it’s so good to hear from you guys.”

Landyns POV

I got the witches name Esme through Luna meghans’ thoughts. But I don’t even know the first thing about how to go about finding a damn witch.

We all sat in the hospital room, flustered, not knowing where to begin. We all half a*s eaten Lily’s birthday cake. We all were basically picking at it at this point.

Louise cleared throat. She seemed slightly nervous. “I may have an idea.”

We all looked at her, giving her our undivided attention.

“I met a witch on campus. I was looking into taking some classes, and I wanted a tour. She just happened to be my tour guide. I knew what she was, and she knew what I was, but we both didn’t make a big deal out of it. I got approached by a couple of guys who were on the tour with me. They clearly had been drinking, and they kept putting their hands on me. Even when I asked them to stop.”

Conner shot up and growled. “They did what? When did this happen?”

He was pissed but he nodded and sat back down.

“Anyways. They did it a couple more times when Maureen, that’s the witches’ name, made them fall into a pile of mud. It looked like a complete accident. But I knew it was her because there was literally nothing they could have tripped on, and by the grin she had on her face, i knew she helped me. After that, we got to talking, and we actually have become pretty good friends over the last few weeks. She’s from a coven that’s three hours from here, and it’s the only one that’s anywhere close. I bet they have an idea who Esme is and where to find her.”

I perked up. “That’s a brilliant idea, Louise. Witches are a lot like wolves. They need a sense of belonging and security. Like we have our pack they have there coven.”

Lily took a gulp. “Would she even be willing to help us? I mean, she doesn’t even know the rest of us.”

I nodded in agreement. “It can’t hurt, to least ask. Louise, do you have her number?”

“Yeah, I do, but shouldn’t this be done in person?”

“We really don’t have the time, and we can’t ask her to come here without Luna finding out about the witch being on our territory. “

“Okay, I’ll call her.”

Louise dialed her number and put in on speaker. She answered on the third ring. Hey girly, that hunk of a wolf treating you well.”

Conner smirked and wiggled his eyebrows at Louise. “Yeah, is my hunk of wolf treating you well?”

Louise blushed. “Maureen, I should have said you were on speaker and that he’s actually sitting next to me. Actually all my friends are here.”

It was nice to hear Louise call us all friends. Honestly, who would have thought that would have happened. She could be quite the b***h at alpha school. I’m starting to see it was just the circumstances.

Maureen cleared her throat. “Well, make sure he doesn’t let it go to his head. From what I’ve heard, he’s already big headed enough.”

Conner sat back on the hospital couch pouting. He had his arms crossed and had rolled his eyes.

Ben laughed like a real genuine laugh. I looked at him and smiled. He pointed to the phone and mouthed. “I like her.” She clearly had a sense of humor and was already onto Conners stupidity.

“What’s up, Louise? Everything okay?”

“I really hate doing this, but I’m actually calling for your help.”

Louise goes on to tell her about the rogue king and his, and Luna plans and the involvement of the witch Esme. She stops Louise from talking. “Say no more. You had me at Rouge King.”

“What do you mean?”

“The rogue king killed my brother when he wouldn’t do what Esme is doing now. I don’t know who she is, but we can head to my coven and try to find out. “

Ben’s voice came out a little shaky. “Can’t you just call someone from your coven?” I could tell he was unsure about sending pack members into a coven full of witches.

“Not really. Nearly all the older ones don’t have phones, and it would be a sign of disrespect to ask for a favor over the phone. They forsure wouldnt help you if we do that.”

I heard Louise mumble. “I knew we shouldn’t be asking for favors over the phone.”

Maureen voice came out more nervous this time. “I do have a favor in return for helping you guys.”

Of course, all witches are the same. Always has to be a trade of some kind.

I unintentionally grunted through my teeth. “What would that be?”

“I want to be the one to kill the Rogue King.”

“You going to have to get in line on that one. He’s hurt a lot of people.”

“He killed my brother, and he helped kill my mother and father and my beloveds mother. He rejected me because of all of this.”

I look at Ben, knowing he’s going to be sympathetic to the situation. “How?”

“After he murdered my brother, he came after my uncle to work with him. My uncle was already a cruel man. I shouldn’t have been so surprised to learn he was working with the rogue king for money. My mom and dad found out about it and confronted him. He killed my mother and was about to kill my dad when my beloveds mother jumped in front of him, and he accidently killed her instead. Apparently, my dad had been having an affair with her. My dad couldn’t take all the heartache and ended up killing himself. My uncle ran off. He was never found. My beloved couldn’t get past what my uncle and my family did to his and rejected me right after that. We had mated and were about to mark each other. “

Lily and Ben looked at each other and then both looked at the ground. Lily’s voice was soft. “I’m so sorry you had to lose a fated mate or beloved like that. I understand how badly that hurts.”

Ben was staring at Lily with so much hurt in his eyes.

“Yes, I still love him. I might always will. I’m just warning you that his dad is the coven leader. I haven’t seen either of them since Silas rejected me. I’m not sure if he would even be willing to help us. He found out his beloved had been cheating on him and was killed all in the same day.”

The tension got really thick in the room.

I finally spoke. “I can meet you outside my pack lands, and I can go with you as long as you’re okay with working with wolves.”

“I already agreed. I’ve never had any issues with a bunch of puppies.” All the guys lightly growled , which of course made the girls laugh.

Louise nodded. Me too, Landyn shouldn’t go alone.”

Maureen spoke. “Sounds good. I take it your hunky wolf is going to. I know how the mate bond is with wolves.”

Conner beamed being called a hunk again. “You know it!” Louise rolled her eyes at him.

We said our goodbyes after we made plans to meet in a couple of days.

Maureen was outside our pack in a pink jeep. Which honesty surprised me. She didn’t sound so girly on the phone.

She was breathtaking. She has long black hair and golden eyes. She was extremely short, maybe five feet. It was actually really cute. I was kind of hoping for a moment that she could have been my mate. But as I got closer, I realized there was no such luck.

“Okay, I figured we could take my jeep most of the way there. But then we would have to go either by wolf form with me on one of your backs or I could teleport you one by one.”

Conners mouth fell open. “You can teleport?”

“Yes, trust me, sometimes I wish I couldn’t. Not many witches can, and it’s caused some conflicts for me in the past.”

We all jumped in her jeep and took off. I sat up front so the love birds could sit next to each other. I couldn’t help but stare. She is really beautiful. She looked at me and gave me a small smile.

The drive went quicker than I would have liked. I was completely awkward. I didn’t know how to talk to her, and I knew Conner was never going to let me live this down.

Maureen pulled on a dirt road. We went down it for about twenty minutes when she pulled over.

“Okay, how we doing this? Do you want me to teleport or go in wolf form?”

Louise spoke first. “I think wolf form so we can all go together.”

Conner gave me an evil grin from the back seat. I turned to Maureen and gave her an awkward smile, hoping she didn’t see his face.

I heard Conner start to talk, and I literally had to close my eyes, waiting for whatever snarky comment he was about to make.

“Maureen, you can ride on Landyns back he’s one of the strongest puppies in the pack. He won’t let you fall off or anything.”

I heard Louise mumble. “Smooth.” Under her breath.

I watched Maureen bite her l*p. “Um, yeah, that would be fine.”

We all got out of the jeep, and Louise and Conner ran off behind some bushes to shift.

I stepped behind a tree and took my clothes off. I came out carrying my clothes in my mouth.

Maureen came up to me and ran her hand in my fur. “You guys really are beautiful creatures.”

My wolf started to purr in my head.I bent down so she could climb on my back. She spoke close to my ear. “I’m really short. I’m going to need you to bend down more than that. Unless you’re okay with me pulling on your hair?”

I lay down flat on my stomach so it would be easier for her to climb. She laid her chest on my back and grabbed onto my hair roughly, and whispered in my ear. “I’ve never road a wolf before, so don’t hold back.”

We took off running into the woods. Maureen gave me directions as we ran.

I felt a link coming in, and I let it through. It was Conner. “Landyn and Maureen are sitting in a tree. K I S S.” I cut him off before he could go any further.

I snarled my teeth at him. I swear I could tell his wolf laughed at me.

We reached a clearing in the woods. A building stood that looked very similar to a pack house.

We shifted back and quickly tried to get dressed. I heard voices, and i jumped out of the tree i was changing behind. I saw about thirty witches waiting outside.

I didn’t get to a chance to put my shirt on, and Maureen looked me up and down and bit her l*p. I couldn’t help but smirk.

She shook her head and pointed to two of the men in front of the house. “That’s Silas and his dad Marvin.”

The older man, Marvin, spoke. “Maureen, why would you bring wolves here?”

“They believe a witch named Esme is either being held captive or that the rouge king has some sort of leverage on her. She’s been working with him to try to kidnap the werewolf princess. Innocent people are going to get hurt, and they are trying to stop it.”

“Maureen, you know we don’t get involved with wolves. You’ve got to let all of this go.”

“I can’t. I lost everything, my parents ,my brother, my everything. ” She looked at Silas when she said the last part. My heart hurt for her.”

Before Marvin said anything, we heard the door to the house slam shut, and a tall, skinny blonde girl came out and wrapped her arms around Silas’s waist. Maureen couldn’t cover the hurt that was all over her face.

I felt bold, so I came up and put my arm around Maureen shoulders. I could feel Conners smirk coming from behind me.

Marvin saw the pain and hurt on Maureens face and looked at his son. “Okay Maureen, only this once I’ll help these wolves. But mostly, it’s because i think it’s more for you and that you need this to put all of this behind you. Esme isn’t here, but she lives in one of the coven cottages about an hour from here. But it’s late and she is older. I would wait till morning to go speak to her.”

We agreed. I looked at Maureen. “I gotta call Myles and them and let them know the plan, and that were okay. I don’t want them worrying.”

“That’s fine.” She stepped away, and i pulled out my phone.

After a couple rings, Myles answered. “Hey man, it’s so good to hear from you guys.”

“We’re okay. They know who Esme is, and she staying in one of the cottages. I guess a lot of the older witches do. They offered for us to stay and let us go see her in the morning.”

“Just be careful. I doubt any of us will sleep until we know you guys make it through the night.”

“The coven leader seems to care about Maureen or least feel sorry for her. I don’t think he holds her uncountable for his beloveds death like his son does.”

“Well, that’s good, at least, that means he’s not wanting to harm her.”

“I actually feel really bad for Maureen her beloved has some blonde bimbo wrapped around him.”

“That’s rough. How is Maureen? Is she as spunky as she seemed on the phone?”

“Oh yeah, she’s something. Shut it. I can feel you smiling through the phone. It’s not like that. She’s still in love with this Silas guy, and i really want to try to find my fated mate first.”

“Right.”

“Nothing against you and Lily, though. I know how much you guys love each other. But this is a witch we’re talking about here.”

“I know, man.”

“I gotta go, there heading inside. “

I hung up the phone and followed Maureen, Conner, and Louise inside.

We entered inside, and Me, Conner, and Louise mouths dropped open. “Holy shit.”
