First Love Of The Alpha -
Chapter 59
Ben’s POV
I was sitting in my dad’s office in my tux with a stiff drink.
We were both trying to mentally get ready for tonight. Both our lives were about to change, and we were hoping for a better outcome.
I wish we could have taken the fight to them, but I knew it wouldn’t be a fair fight because I knew my mom would have warned them.
Are warriors trained for this. I knew they would be fine. But I couldn’t help the guilt of knowing what was coming and not being able to warn or prepare them.
We just couldn’t take the chance of one of them telling mom. I knew most didn’t know the truth and were loyal to her.
I took one last swig of my drink and headed down to the ballroom.
I got down earlier than the rest of my friends. As soon as I got down the steps in the ballroom, my mother was in my face.
“Yes, Luna?”
She looked angry. “So now it’s come to that. You’ve never called me Luna.”
I rolled my eyes. “I think it’s fitting. You are the packs, Luna.”
“Are you going to keep ignoring me?”
“Are you going to keep giving me reasons to ignore you?”
She was getting irritated. “Ben, you can’t talk to me like this.”
“And why’s that?”
I cut her off before she could say another word. Even if I gave something away, we were ready for her and her bullshit.
I looked directly at her. “We both know what’s going on here, I know what’s going to happen, I’m not an i***t like you like to think that I am.”
Her mouth slightly parted. But said nothing. She looked kind of scared.
Even if she did warn the rogue king, she had no idea about the warriors, and what could she say? “My son might know something.” He probably would think that she’s overreacting.
My attention was directed to the stairs where the rest of my friends were coming down.
Lily was in a purple dress that suited her perfectly. It showed off her swollen stomach. I couldn’t help but admire it. She was truly stunning.
I look past Lily to see Amber. She was not one go be Suttle. She looks like she’s ready to kill someone, and the truth is she probably is.
As Amber stepped down the stairs, I noticed something peaking through her upper thigh.
I met them at the bottom, and Amber wrapped her arm into mine.
I whispered into her ear. Want to tell me what’s on your thigh?”
She said it so casually. “My dagger’s, of course.”
She said it like I already should have known.
Everyone was already dancing around us. Amber squeezed on my arm. “Sorry buddy, you’re stuck dancing with me since Brody is busy.”
Ugh, I thought to myself. Lily and Myles were already headed in that direction. So I decided why the hell not. “Fine.” I grumbled.
“Awe, come on, Benny, you could act a little more excited.”
I hated it when she called me that, and she knew it. She was purposely trying to annoy me.
We got to the dance floor, and I was grateful a slow song came on.
Amber put her arms on my shoulders, and we swayed in circles.
I couldn’t help my eyes wander to Lily every time I would turn to face her. she didn’t even seem to notice I was looking in her direction. I hated that part of me will always be jealous of Myles.
Love can be a cruel thing.
Amber must have noticed. “You know it’s okay to move on, right?”
“Nah, I’m okay. I don’t need a chosen mate. At least not anytime soon, if at all.”
There was a little irritation in her voice. “So you’re not even open to the idea. You’re just going to ponder over Lily the rest of your life?”
I shouldn’t have expected anything else. Amber was always direct and to the point. Even if it came off very blunt.
I spoke clearly and confidently. “Amber, I promise I’m okay. I could die tomorrow and be okay with Lily being my first love, my only love. I will always cherish that, and I should have long before now. I’m not going to try to come between her and Myles, not that I could. But I want her to be happy, and that’s enough for me in this life.”
She looked at me with her sad eyes. “I want more for you, Ben, and I know so does Lily.”
“Well, I don’t. So can we just drop it?”
She pulled me into a hug and continued to sway. “It’s okay to love her. She will always love you too. But you have to quit punishing yourself. I bet you have a second chance mate out there closer than you think.”
I snorted. “Assholes like me don’t get second chance mates. I’m the one that screwed up. why would the moon goddess give me another shot at happiness when i failed her already.”
“Because you made a mistake. You’ve been trying to redeem and change yourself. She sees that. Just like everyone else has. You’re the only one who keeps this going. Everyone has forgiven you. You’re too much in your head.”
“Would you be able to let it go if it was Brody?”
“That’s not a fair question. You know I’m crazy. I wouldn’t be able to stay calm enough to let everything settle. Brody would have been a dead man.”
“Exactly, that’s what I deserve. “
“I’m not saying it’s what you deserve. I’m just a hot head and would have reacted to soon. I’m sure after time, I would have been able to forgive Brody like Lily did for you. I just tend to overreact.”
“Oh, I got that when you threatened to slice of my weiner.”
Amber shrugged her shoulders. “Well, in the moment, it needed to be said. Besides, I didn’t follow through with it.” She gave me a cheeky smile.
“I’ll make you a deal. If the moon goddess decides, I’m worthy of a second chance, mate. I’ll give it all I have to make it work. If she doesn’t, you have to promise to let this all go and be happy for me without any mate because i dont plan on taking a chosen. “
She looked confused. “But if you never take a mate, you can never be Alpha.”
“Amber, do we have a deal?”
She looked stunned, now realizing how serious I was about all of this. “Okay, yeah, you have a deal, Ben.”
Now, I was the one who was stunned that she agreed so easily. Even after what I basically admitted to her. It was just so weird and unlike Amber not to put up a fight.
We continued to dance in silence. I started to scan the room again and saw that Myles and Lily went to sit with Louise and Conner. I continued to look around and didn’t see my mother anywhere.
Amber could tell I was starting to panic. “Ben, what’s wrong.”
“Look around, do you see my mother?”
We stopped dancing and continued to look. She was nowhere in sight she must have left. I hope that doesn’t mean that things are starting. I hadn’t been linked by Brody yet.
Maureens POV
I was flipping, though the movies on Netflix trying to decide on something to pass time. I was already agitated and i couldn’t decide.
It’s been bothering me that Landyn has yet to come see me, and I’ve been here for hours. Maybe it was just me that had actual feelings. I swear it was more than this stupid guardian pull.
I hated feeling rejected. I’m not sure if I could handle being rejected again by the first guy I had feelings for since my beloved.
I felt like I just kept scrolling through the same movies over and over again. I just settled on Pride and Prejudice.
I heard the door start to fiddle and realized if it was just Myles or Lily, they would have unlocked it, and if it was anyone else, they would have knocked. This was someone trying to break through the lock.
I panicked slightly and grabbed onto the duffle bag with the few potions that were left and went towards the door closest to me. I texted Landyn and Louise, letting them know that someone is trying to break in Lily and Myles room.
I closed the door quietly and locked it. I looked around, realizing I was in the babies’ room. I smiled how adorable it was done.
I pressed my ear to the door, listening to them fiddle around, looking for something.
I was clenching onto the duffle bag. I was just proud of myself to remember to grab it.
I know how to defend myself. I just didn’t think that right now was the right time.
I continued to listen to what seemed like forever, but really, it only had to be minutes.
I heard their bedroom door open. I kept my ear against the door when I heard a deep man’s voice that I recognized.
“What are you doing in here, Luna Meghan?”
I heard a slight squel. “Landyn, you scared me. I was just grabbing something for Lily.”
I could hear the panic in her voice.
“No, you weren’t. Try again.”
“Why aren’t you down at Lily’s party? I thought you two were as close as ever.”
“We are, and I was actually heading down now, but you still didn’t answer the question. What are you doing here, Luna Meghan?”
It was quiet for a moment. I could sense that they were still there. Im sure it had to be awkward as hell.
“Don’t bother in lying. I already linked Lily, Myles, and Ben.”
“Really, did you have to tell everyone?”
“Yeah, I linked Alpha Rodger to.”
“Serioualy Landyn. This is not a big deal.”
“Going through someone’s locked room with out there permission isn’t a big deal? You shouldn’t even be on this floor.”
“I can be on whatever I floor I want. I am the Luna.”
I heard a low growl.
I know he was busy bitching out the Luna, but it was so good to hear his voice and have him here.
“Right.”
I could hear the frustration and anger in her voice. I knew Landyn was outright disrespecting Luna Meghan, and I knew in a pack that was a big no-no.
“What do you mean by that? Landyn, I’ve about had it with you and your little friends talking to me like this.”
“Well, maybe if you weren’t making the choices you were making or lies you’ve been telling, we would have more respect for you.”
“I heard another man’s voice I didn’t recognize. “Well said, Landyn. Mother, what are you doing in here. I just saw you downstairs. You knew Lily and Myles were downstairs if you needed them. Plus, the door was locked.”
“Boys, I wouldn’t threaten me right now.”
“Why’s that mother?”
I heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot. “Shit.”
Landyns POV
I was watching Ben have it out with his mother. I was so glad he decided to come up and help me deal with this.
He seemed to have her pinned with questions. Part of me was hoping we could easily end this right now and take her out. It would be one less person to worry about.
We heard a loud noise, and I’m hundred percent sure it was a gunshot.
We ran into the hallway, trying to figure out where the sound came from . When we looked back, Luna Meghan was down the hallway.
Ben looked concerned. “Our dad was supposed to meet us down here, and now he has a block up.”
“Okay, you go look in his office. I’m going to check on Maureen, and I’ll meet you up there. Link Lily if he’s hurt.”
I went back into Lily and Myles room. “Maureen, you in here. She’s gone. It’s just me.”
She opened the door to the pups room and came running towards me. She jumped up into my arms and wrapped her legs around me.
She let out a breath she was holding and slid down out of my arms. “I’m so glad you’re here. I thought s**t was about to hit the fan. I can hold my own. But i didn’t want anyone pissed if I killed the bitch.”
“Actually we were going to lock her up since we had her cornered. The rogues are on the outside of the packlands it’s about to start.”
“Why didn’t you go after her?
“We heard the gunshot, so Ben went to see what that was about, and i didn’t know if you were okay.”
“Please, I won’t be taken out by a wolf. No offense. You should have gone after her. “
I watched her smell the air. I knew she must have smelled Ben. But she shrugged it off.
“I actually have to go check on Ben and the Alpha. We’ll my dad. He was actually supposed to meet us down here to help get Luna Meghan in a cell. He never showed, and now he has a block up.”
“Yeah, go ill be fine!”
“Okay, Myles and Conner are on their way up with the girls.”
She nodded and shooed me off.
I walked up to the Alpha floor, and before I even got to Alpha Rodger’s office, I saw b***d.
There was a pool of b***d in the hall, and when I got around the corner to where his office was, it wasn’t Alpha Rodger, I saw.
