Lily’s POV

I watched Ben fall to his knees and Lexi backing away. I saw everything moving in slow motion.

I felt like part of my heart shattered. I knew something was wrong. Ben shouldn’t have gone down. Not like this.

We were protected. We were supposed to be protected against all things magic.

He landed on his side, and I ran towards him as fast as I possibly could.

Everyone was frozen in place. No one dared to move, or maybe they were too scared to.

I turned Ben onto his back and saw the knives. My gut was telling me these were the ones that were meant for Myles and I.

Ben was still awake, and he gave me a small smile. “Lil, it’s okay.”

I shook my head, not wanting to hear it. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was morbid and I wasn’t having it.

I pulled each knife out slowly and tossed them aside. He didn’t even flinch in pain.

I placed my hands on both wounds. Fighting back the tears and emotions I was feeling.

I loved Ben. I will always love Ben, just not in the way I once did. I was proud of how far he’d come, and he deserved to be happy.

Right now, I could feel him giving up, and I needed him to fight. Fight for me , for his friends, for his family, for his life. I just don’t think he was wanting to.

He brushed my cheek with his fingertips so I would look at him. “Lil, it’s okay. Lily, if I go out like this, if I die in the arms of my first love. I’ll be okay, Lil. I couldn’t imagine loving anyone but you. “

I hated how he kept saying my name like that. Like it would be the last time.

I felt Myles tense up behind me, but I knew he would dare say anything. At least not right now.

I lifted my hands up to peak, and he was healing oddly slow. Even when he was in the hospital, he wasn’t healing this slow with my help.

I tried to hide my shocked reaction, but he knew me. He knew something was wrong.

Ben placed his hand on my stomach. Feeling the pups move. “You’re beautiful. I love you, Lil. I will always love you. Even if i could never be with you.”

His breathing started to slow down. I no longer could fight the tears. “I love you too.” I brushed the hair out of his face like I used to, trying to bring him any sort of comfort that I could.

The thought dawned on me that Maureen was his second chance mate and a witch. Maybe she would know how to save him. “Maureen, Maureen, come here.”

Ben fluttered his eyes back open. “Do you smell pumpkin pie Lil?”

I looked up to see Landyn stiffen in place. The hurt on his face broke me. He knew what was about to happen.I remember Conner making fun of him for sharing a piece of pumpkin pie with Maureen. All around, this was a heartbreaking moment.

I couldn’t look Landyn in the eye. He just lost his sister, and now I was handing the women he loved over to Ben in hopes that she might be able to save him.

Landyn linked me. I think he knew I was struggling to hurt him, too. “It’s okay, Lil. I’m okay.”

I looked up, and he gave me a small smile and nodded to give me all the encouragement he could grasp.

Maureen came and squatted down on Bens other side. She looked at me with the saddest eyes. “What can I do, Lily?”

“Why didn’t the potion you and Esme made shield him? He should have been immune.”

I could tell she was picking her words carefully. I felt my l*p tremble into a pout. “Lily, there’s only so much magic can do.”

I shook my head. “No.. No!”

“Lily, I think he was hit with too much. Between the mutiple silver stab wounds and the potions. I just think his body took too much.”

“I said no! You’re wrong!”

Maureen looked over at Myles like he somehow was supposed to reason with me.

I looked around, and everyone was looking at me like I was crazy. They all had tears in their eyes. They all were giving up.

“I can’t let him go, I won’t…. So NO!”

Ben eyes shot open again when I yelled, and he locked eyes with Maureen. He whispered, “Mate.” Before he lost consciousness.

Maureen jumped back and landed on her butt and mouthed beloved.”

She looked at me with angry and hurt eyes. “Did you know?”

“I had an idea. I didn’t know for sure till just now.”

I tried to keep the focus on Ben. I reached down to his neck. I feel a pulse. “He’s still breathing. Can someone please take him to the hospital. I have his wounds somewhat healed. “

Brody walked over. “I’ll take him. I linked doctor George he is waiting.” Brody scooped him up in his arms.

Maureen started to pace. She stopped for a moment and put her hand on Bens forehead. “I don’t think he’s going to wake. I think he’s in a coma from all the magic and trauma. “

I looked at her, confused. “A coma? Like he will never wake up?”

“Lily, I’m not sure if he ever will. I never met anyone who has woken up.”

I watched Brody walk away with Ben when I felt like someone was staring. I look into a distance and see an older man I’ve never seen before. He was smirking, and I knew it had to be the rogue king.

Maureen followed the direction of my gaze. Her eyes changed instantly to hurt and then to rage. She basically confirmed who this man was.

I didn’t even have time to react when Louise grabbed onto Maureens arm, and Amber grabbed onto Louise’s. Without thinking, I grabbed onto Amber’s, shoudler, and the four of vanished from where we once stood.

Maureens POV

As soon as I locked eyes with the rogue king, I instantly teleported to the tree I saw him at.

I had to bend over, and I gasped for air. I looked behind me, and Louise, Amber, and Lily all teleported with me. I didn’t even think that was possible.

Louise and Lily were throwing up. Amber seemed perfectly fine.

Amber shrugged her shoulders. “I didn’t think it was that bad.”

“What were you girls thinking. I’ve never teleported more than one person. I didn’t even think it was possible till now. That could have been so dangerous. Especially for you, Lily.”

Louise spoke calmly. “We were worried. You just found out you have a second chance mate, he ends up in a coma, and then you find the rogue king watching us, and you instantly take off. Honeslty, I’m not sure what you were thinking.

I started to look around. “It’s way too quiet. He was just right here. Can one of you try to link one of the guys?”

Lily started to panic and move closer towards me. “I can’t reach Myles or Landyn.”

Amber pulled out a dagger. I was honestly surprised she still had one. I knew one was left in Luna Meghan. “I can’t link Brody either.”

Louise got closer to me as well, while Amber took a stance around us. I had to admire her bravery.

The three of them tensed up, so I knew they had to smell rogues. I’m starting to figure them out.

On cue, the rogue king came out in a clearing with Silas following behind him. This time, it was my body tensing up.

Louise grabbed onto my arm. “What the hell is he doing here?”

The hurt and the feeling of betrayal were plastered all over my face. The nerves I felt were unsettling.

Amber looked bored truthfully. I’m learning she really doesn’t have a filter. “What? Do you know the creepy old guy or something?”

Louise bit her lips together, trying to hold back a smirk. She whispered. “I swear Amber and Conner should be related.”

I shook my head.”No, I know the one behind him. Very well, actually.”

Amber looked him up and down. “I honestly thought he was a tree branch or something. I’ve never seen a man so skinny, and what’s with the all brown outfit and cloak? It was seriously an easy mistake to make. I’m not even sure if a branch even suits him. He’s more like a twig.”

I put my hand on my forehead. This girl, i swear she’d going to get us killed just from her running her mouth. Absolutely zero filter.

Lily was quiet, way too quiet. She never took her eyes off the rogue king.

Louise snorted. She wasn’t even trying to hide her grin now. “Amber, that’s the warlock who rejected Maureen.”

“You were beloveds with a twig?”

I’m not going to lie. I was enjoying seeing Silas get pissed off at Amber for talking down at him. He’s been so used to girls falling at his feet.

By how Louise and Amber were acting, I’m kind of wondering if Amber already knew who he was. I think this was her way of showing she had my back plus getting a little amusement out of it.

Louise was practically bent over laughing. “The twigs name is Silas.”

Silas stepped forward and looked at the rogue king. “Are you just going to let these bitches talk to me like this. We made a deal, and I’m not going to tolerate this.”

The rogue king looked him annoyed. “The fiery red head isn’t wrong. Plus, she’s fascinating to me. It’s not like they can link for help. You made sure of that.”

Amber started spinning her dagger between her fingers. “See, I’m not the only one that thinks you look like a twig.”

Silas took a step forward, and Amber raised an eyebrow and pointed her dagger at him. She was practically daring him to make a move.

Lily was still quiet and holding onto her stomach tightly.

The rogue king was gawking at Amber. His eyes roamed up and down her body and lingered over areas he shouldn’t be.

Amber gave him a disgusted look. “Just because I called you a creepy old man doesn’t mean you should act like one.”

“Oh s**t!” I said slightly louder than what I wanted it to come out.

The rogue king looked beyond pissed now. His eyes locked in on Amber. “Do you even know how to show even an ounce of respect?”

Amber gave him an evil smirk. “Yes to my actual king.”

I stepped forward. I knew things were going to escalate now. “Woah, woah, woah. Before things get out of control, I want to know what you’re even doing here, Silas?”

“I made a deal. If I helped him get the princess, he would help me get you.”

“Silas, we’ve been over this. You rejected me, remember? I’m not taking you back. I’ll never be with you again.”

“I didn’t say you had a choice, Maureen. I know who you really are, princess.”

The rogue king tossed down a head. We all jumped back.

My eyes were practically coming out of my head. “You killed Esme?”

Silas chuckled. “No, he did.”

The rogue king was practically yelling. “This is what happens when you betray or distespect me.”

You could tell he was trying to be scary, but he just wasn’t. I could tell by all of our reactions that it was pissing him off that we didn’t fear him.

Amber chuckled herself. “You should have stayed in the shadows. You gave yourself quite the reputation, and you obviously were exaggerating. “

“You know I was actually considering keeping you alive with your memories gone. I thought you would be the perfect little fiery side piece.”

Amber rolled her eyes. “Keep dreaming, old man. Even if I didn’t have my memories , I still wouldn’t want to sleep with the looks of you.”

I was hoping I would get some sort of sign that my ancestors would help me again. But I felt nothing.

I watched the rogue king start to approach Amber, and I went to swing my hand to send him flying when I was stopped by Silas. What was he thinking going against my magic?

He gave me a smirk. “You are part mutt. I think I’ll take my chances. “

Lily’s POV

Maureen and Silas were chanting at each other. I’m not sure what spells were being cast, but things were getting heated.

Amber was off to the side fighting the rogue king in human form. She was actually holding her own, which I think was pissing him off more.

I held onto Louise for dear life. The pains kept coming, and I was doing everything I could to fight them off.

My water broke when we teleported, and I’ve been too scared to say anything. I was even more terrified when I realized I couldn’t link Myles.

Louise felt me squeeze on her arm tighter. “Ouch, s**t Lily are you in labor?”

I just nodded with my eyes closed.

Louise looked around. “Okay, we have to get you out of here.”

I screamed out in pain, not being able to hold it in any longer.

It distracted Amber long enough to look at me concerned. The rogue king hit her hard, and she went crashing into the ground. He threw down a poition and started walking towards me.

I have to admit he looked slightly scary now. He pointed his finger at me. “You, you are coming with me now and were going to find my failure of a son. Meghan can clean up this mess and deal with the red head.”

Louise shifted into her wolf. The rogue king didn’t even flinch when more rogues came racing out of the trees, heading straight towards Louise. One bit into her side.

I felt another contraction come on, and I screamed louder than I ever have.

The rogue king had me by the wrist trying to drag me along with him. “I can’t move. I’m in labor.” I bellowed out in pain again.

He kept pulling me. “I don’t care if your mutt lives or dies. You can make a new one with Andrew.”

I fell to the ground, grabbing on to the grass beneath me. I could tell my body was trying to tell me it was close to start pushing already.

The rogue king kicked me in the face hard, and i rolled onto my back. I was losing consciousness and felt the b***d dripping from my nose and mouth when I saw a large white wolf rip the rogue king into shreds right in front of me. I closed my eyes, not being able to keep them open any longer.
