First Love Of The Alpha
Chapter 69

Lily’s POV

After two days in the hospital, Doctor Mel finally let me and the pups head back to our room to get settled.

After I was dressed and showered, I decided to head over to see Ben. There was still no change to his condition. My heart sinks every time I think about him not waking up.

I didn’t knock. It’s not like he could hear me, and I knew everyone else had headed up to rest.

The hospital finally cleared out with everyone’s injuries. It was taking longer to heal because of Luna Meghan. We’re just lucky none were fatal.

I opened the door slowly and saw Alpha Rodger asleep against Ben’s bed. I accidently woke him up.

“I’m sorry sorry Alpha Rodger, I just got released, and I wanted to see Ben before I headed upstairs with the twins.”

He rubbed his eyes with his hands and ran them through his hair.He looked like he hadn’t showered and slept in days.

“It’s okay Lily come on in. Maureen just left a few minutes ago. I must have dozed off for a moment.”

It kind of shocked me that Maureen had been here. She seemed so uninterested in Ben, or maybe she was just torn. It was definitely confusing. Either way, I was thrilled to know she came to see him.

“Have you been here the whole time?”

He looked in pain. “I just haven’t brought myself to leave his side just yet. I know I need to. Especially with Maddy coming tomorrow. She can’t see me look like this. She’s already going to be scared enough to come live with a bunch of strangers.”

“Have you thought about letting Andrew become a pack member. He is Maddys and Ben’s brother, and he helped us all. Plus, he’s already been staying here the last few days. I know it would mean a lot to him. He never wanted to be a rogue. Just got unlucky to have a dad who was. It might make it easier for maddy to have a familiar face.”

It looked guilty suddenly. “Actually, Lily, I was planning on stepping down as Alpha to focus on Maddy and Ben. I already spoke to the elders yesterday about Landyn taking over. They are giving him two years to be mated and marked. So it will actually be his decision. “

I was beyond shocked. “Have you talked to Landyn about this yet?”

“Yeah, i did. He’s fine with it. He understands my focus is somewhere else right now.”

“What if he doesn’t find his fated mate?”

He rubbed the back of his neck. “He will have to take chosen mate or step down as Alpha.”

I’m not sure if I see Landyn taking a chosen mate, but maybe he would if it was the right person. I know he had feelings for Maureen. Maybe he would find that again.”When is he taking over?”

“Offically, end of the week. He doesn’t want a big ceremony. I’m announcing to the pack tonight. Including him being my son. But basically, he’s starting now.”

I was worried about Landyns parents and how they would feel about their dirty laundry be aired to the whole pack. “What about Landyns mom?”

“Last night, they decided to join another pack after learning about Brooke’s death and Landyn taking over as Alpha. I don’t think my former beta could handle the backlash of all of this.”

“Even his mom?”

I knew about the beating she took from her mate. Now that her kids were free, I was kind of shocked she would agree to stay with him and go to another pack.

I think Alpha Rodger knew as well because he looked even sadder all of sudden. “I couldn’t change her mind.”

My heart broke even more for Landyn. The amount of heartache he’s gone through is just not fair. I’ll forever admire how strong he is.

“I’ll let you rest. I’m so sorry for interrupting you.”

I kissed Ben’s forehead and whispered. I knew Alpha Rodger would still hear me, but I wasn’t trying to keep a secret. “Please just wake up. We all still need you.”

I walked towards the door when I heard Alpha Rodger stand. “Lily, wait.”

I looked back towards him. “Whatever you and Myles decided to do. whether it’s staying here or going to the palace, thank you for carrying for Ben like you have. I just hope him having a second chance mate will be enough for him to wake.”

“Me too. He never owed me anything. Even though I feel like he thought he did or he had to make it up to me somehow. I forgiven him a while ago.”

“Lily, he needed to forgive himself. He just never got that far.”

“I pray he gets the chance to. Everyone makes mistakes. He did more than enough to make it right. Myles and the twins are waiting on me. Is it okay if I come back tomorrow.”

“You don’t ever have to ask. “

Landyns POV

While Lily was staying in the hospital, I headed over to visit with Ben again. I caught Maureen coming out, and she looked up at me guilty.

“You don’t have to look at me like that he’s your mate, Maureen. I know you must be feeling the pull.”

“I do. I just can’t help but feel like I’m betraying you somehow.”

I pulled her in for a hug. I heard her light sobs. I placed both hands on her cheeks and made her look up at me. “You’re not betraying me. This is what the moon goddess wanted. This is destiny. don’t ever apologize for that. “

She gave me a small nod. She was still trying to control her crying.

I gulped. Suddenly, I was the one feeling guilty. “Maureen, how would you feel about staying here?”

I pulled her to sit down in the chairs in front of Ben’s room.

“A witch living with a bunch of wolves. Do you really think that would be a good idea?”

“You’re dad is wolf. No one would think it’s crazy. Besides, did you really plan on returning to coven?”

She shook her head. “No, I wasn’t planning on going back.”

“So stay here, stay with Lily and with me. I don’t think the guardian in me will like the distance from either of you.”

She took a large gulp. “So you’re really becoming the Alpha of this pack one day?”

“Actually, Alpha Rodger asked me to take over now. He’s announcing it to the pack tonight, and then I’ll have a ceremony at the end of the week.”

“How is that going to work with you being a guardian of me and Lily. What if she wants to go be with her parents at the palace. Honeslty, I will probably follow her. I know she mentioned staying here to our grandpa, but there’s no way he will allow that.”

“Actually, he is. He just wants her to be happy. She grew up here. It’s her home. She plans on talking with her parents when they get here tomorrow.”

She looked irratated. “So everything is already decided?”

“I mean, it’s not all set and stone. I plan on going up and talking to Lily and Myles after a bit. I’m going to ask Myles to be my beta. Maureen, if you don’t want to stay, you don’t have to. We talked to the elders, and they said it was fine to be a gaurdian and an Alpha, and with Lily already mated and marked with pups, they didn’t see a threat. “

“No, I knew part of me would have to stay because of this pull I have towards Ben. This is my second time visiting him today. I’m having trouble staying away. I just thought if Lily left here and we went to the palace, it would make all of this easier. They weren’t as worried about me because im part witch and dont have the purples eyes, right?”

“Maureen, you still would have the pull even if you leave. Honestly, i think they are assuming you would stay because of Ben and Lily.”

“I know that. I just thought….”

I realized what she was meaning now. “If Lily decided to leave, were you planning on rejecting Ben?”

“I’ve been considering it. He’s in a coma, one he probably will never wake from. I’ve seen this before. Not in Werewolves but other witches and warlocks. They never wake Landyn. What am I supposed to be trapped to a pull and bond with someone who will never wake up.”

“Maureen, another rejection might push him over the edge. He’s not a warlock. We heal naturally on our own. He could come out of this with time.”

“What if he doesn’t come out of this? What am I supposed to do then?”

“But what if he does? What if you reject him and he he wakes up? I mean, that is if he doesn’t die from you rejecting him.”

“Don’t guilt me or make me feel like I would be the reason he dies if I reject him. I feel like you’re trying to trap me. The likelihood of him waking is so slim…….We both know Lily wouldn’t forgive me if he dies.”

“I’m not trying to trap you. I’m just being honest about what could happen. I don’t think Lily would necessarily blame you. At the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you. Just least give him some time to try to heal. If you don’t want to be mated to him down the road and you want to move on, we all will understand.”

“I don’t know him. I’m not sure what you mean by moving on. How can you move on from someone you don’t even know?”

“I mean, move on from the pull you feel towards him. You’re young. I’m sure eventually you will want someone and a family. Lily won’t blame you for that. None of us will. Just try to give him a chance to heal first. “

“I can do that. Truth is, I’m not even sure if I would want to be with Ben even if he was awake. I’m just really confused by this. Yet part of me thinks I would give him a chance. Im just so back and forth with everything.”

“I know it’s all confusing. Trust me, I haven’t been handling everything the best myself. Why don’t you go with me to talk to Myles and Lily.”

“Okay, I’m sorry if what I said about Ben hurts your feelings. Being second chance mates with your sisters fated mate and after hearing everything he did. I’m just struggling with it all.I just feel like if I did actually want to be with him, I would somehow be doing Lily wrong, too.”

“Maureen, I don’t think she sees it that way at all. She wants you both to be so happy. Besides, Myles was her first. So you have to worry about that.”

I saw relief go across her face. I figured that’s what possibly could be bothering about all of this, and i was right.

We walked up to Myles and Lily’s room in silence. Maureen got put in the room underneath them.

I plan on cleaning my sisters room out for her when I could. I figured if she decided to stay, she would be more comfortable closer to Lily.

My mom already took what she wanted. They returned and left within a couple of hours. They never even said goodbye to me. I’m sure it was more my dad not giving my mom a choice. I’m sure he blames me for Brooke’s death.

I just prayed to the moon goddess for my mom’s safety in all of this. I hope my dad didn’t take out his anger on her.

We got to the beta and gamma floor, and Maureen could barely look at me. I hated to see her hurting. I so desperately wanted to comfort her. I will always believe that we could have been something great. She was Ben’s now, she will always be Ben’s and i need to let that go and be her gaurdian and only her gaurdian.

I know deep down if she leaves, I’m not sure what I will do. I’m both her and Lily’s gaurdian. I will always feel the pull towards both.

We finally got to their door, and i knocked awkwardly. If that was even possible. But the tension was definitely awkward.

Myles answered the door. “Come on in. Lily just got the boys down, so we were going to start a movie. The both of you are welcome to join.”

I cleared my throat. “I actually want to talk to the both of you if you have the time?”

It looked at me, clearly confused. “Yeah, of course, man, we always will have time for you.”

We all sat down on the couch. Lily kept looking back and forth between me and Maureen. She was trying to figure out what this was about.

“I sat down with Alpha Rodger, and he asked me to take over being Alpha immediately. With Ben being in a coma and Maddy coming tomorrow, his focus is just not on the pack anymore. He’s making the announcement tonight, and the ceremony will be the end of this week.”

I could tell Lily was really nervous. Still eyeing me and Maureen. I didn’t have to read her thoughts to know what she was worried about. She practically stuttered out. “But you have to have a mate to be Alpha.”

“The elders are giving me two years to find a mate or taken a chosen.”

She didn’t look surprised to hear that part but yet still looked oddly nervous. “I talked to Alpha Rodger a little earlier. I knew about you taking over, but are you taking a chosen mate now?”

I now understood why she was nervous. She thought me bringing Maureen up here was me trying to tell her that I was taking Maureen as my chosen mate.

“No, Lily, I’m not.”

I saw her whole body relax in relief.

“I actually came up here to ask if Myles would be my Beta?”

Myles looked shocked and looked at Lily, who was beaming.

After a moment of silence, i finally asked again. “So what do you say Myles will you be my Beta?”
