Her Revenge Contract
Chapter 114

Katherine's

POV

"You are making a mistake," Kia yelled at me inside my mind, "you can't leave our mate!"

I ignored her plea as I waited in the VIP area of the airport. I nervously waited for my flight number to be called over the intercom. I fiddled with my hat anxiously in fear of being recognized. My flight was late and the plane was delayed, and I kept on glancing nervously at the airport gate from time to time.

I knew that by this time, Xavier must have noticed that I was gone. I have noticed that the security patrols have become a bit overcrowded at the airport. That made me even more anxious.

I curled myself up at the boarding gate, hoping that no one would recognize me.

I turned my wrist to look at the time and felt a bit of relief when I saw that the departure time was getting closer.

I looked out the window, and my thoughts raced toward Xavier and last night.

I sighed, feeling my heart beating heavily in my chest. He was so kind and loveable last night, but I just couldn't get over the fact that he has been hiding things from me.

A breath escaped my lips. I have abandoned my own nature and lost my direction.

My gaze turned to the clear night sky, pleading for it to help me. I felt confused and didn't know what I really wanted.

Maybe if I was away for a while, I could find my true self again. Maybe in that way I can heal myself and forgive.

Maybe I could process through all my losses and emotions.

My thoughts race to my dead parents, seeing them in my mind as they looked happy just before their deaths. Then to John, Rose, and Erika, the family I had who never wanted me and who ripped us apart for my father's company and pack. My mind ended up on Xavier, how kind he and his pack were to me, and the uncertain love we shared.

My flight was called, and with a heavy heart, I walked to board the plane.

The plane took off slowly, and I watched the familiar city get farther and farther away from me. I breathed a sigh of relief when I was in the air.

Xavier's face emerged from the white clouds and then gradually disappeared in the distance.

Tears were burning behind my eyes, and my heart pinched. I refused to openly cry in public, even though this was a plane. I put on the sleeping mask and laid back, falling asleep almost instantly.

The flight attendant's gossip woke me, and I sat upright. I quickly got bored when I heard they were discussing Xavier and me.

Why were people so interested in our relationships?

My attention moved to an old couple who looked to be in their seventies. Both of them had gray hair, but their eyes were still full of life and love.

The old woman seemed to be in poor health; she leaned against the window next to her and fell asleep, while the old man looked annoyed, whispering under his breath that the old woman had forgotten to pull down the sun visor. He quickly pulled a blanket from his bag, carefully covered her with it, and continued to read the newspaper.

I silently watched the couple throughout the flight. I have noticed that the old woman walked up and down the aisle from time to time, and the old man always complained about it, yet every time he carefully guarded behind the old woman. Keeping a watchful eye on her even when she went to the toilet, he would never leave her side. The old woman always smiled at him as if she saw him for him; she held her husband tightly, no matter how angry he was. His heart, in return, always softened, and only pure love could be

seen.

Seeing this, I suddenly thought of Xavier, who took care of me in the same way after he found me.

The images of Xavier flickered before my eyes, and I gritted my teeth and shook my head to get rid of the thoughts of him.

A man sitting next to me softly patted me on the shoulder.

"Are you okay, Miss?" He asked.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and turned to look at the man next to me.

Only then did I realize that the person sitting next to me turned out to be a man with brown hair and blue eyes.

I guess because I was so deeply in love with Xavier that I didn't even see any men around me.

"Are you okay?" The blue-eyed man asked again, a bit worriedly.

I shook her head and forced a smile.

"I am fine, thank you," I said, "nothing to worry about."

The man looked at me, thinking that I might be airsick, and thoughtfully called the flight attendant closer for her to bring something to relieve any nausea.

I thanked him and took the tablets from him.

"Feeling better?" he asked after a few minutes.

"Much better, thank you." I said, smiling.

"Are you going to New Zealand by yourself?" He suddenly asked, seemingly interested.

"Yes," I answered, knowing he was only trying to make conversation, "I believe New Zealand is suitable for traveling alone."

The man looked pleased at my answer, dug into his bag, and took out a map of New Zealand.

"These places," he pointed to the map, "are the best places to visit."

I glanced at the man, reading the interest he had in me.

Maybe he could distract me long enough to forget about Xavier while I am here.

Kia growled in my mind, yet I blocked her off. I was still angry at her for keeping such a big secret from me. She had no right to interfere while I was in New Zealand. I needed a break.

"You are right," I answered, smiling, "but these places are not what I was considering seeing. Maybe we meet up somewhere and discuss other places in more detail when we land?"

A trace of disappointment was readable in the man's eyes, and he shrugged regretfully.

"That's really a pity," he said, folding the map and packing it away. He then retrieved his earphones to continue listening to the music on his phone.

I pouted in disappointment and laid back in my seat.

A minute later, a man walked closer and handed out business cards to us. I glanced at the card as he introduced himself.

"Hi, my name is James, and I am a travel agent from New Zealand. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I heard that the two of you are freelance travelers. Maybe I could be of some service to you two." The man was well dressed and presented himself very well, yet I felt very uncomfortable in his presence. Kia confirmed my uncomfortable feelings behind the wall; she didn't trust this man at all. I smiled back at the travel agent and handed the business card back to him.

"I'm sorry," I said. "I am not interested in your services."

The man grabbed his chest and pretended to be heartbroken.

"That's such a pity," he said. "It would have been an honor to accompany and serve such a beautiful lady like yourself."

I ignored his comment and leaned back against the window, hearing the man and the travel agent discuss different places to visit for a while.

"If you have a companion traveling with you, I could give you a discount," the travel agent said. "But I am sorry to inform you that it is only for one person; you would be required to pay the full price." I could feel the man's gaze turning toward me, and the same uncomfortable feeling rippled through my body.

I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep, and when I got off the plane, the two followed me, pestering me to take the deal.

I ignored them and walked straight to where my luggage was. I retrieved my luggage and headed toward the door, but before I reached the exit, I was pulled back hard, and I yelled out in agony.

"Let her go!" A familiar man's voice echoed through the busy airport, and my gaze snapped toward the voice, seeing the man I so desperately loved and hated.
