I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 18

Dominic heard the sound of his front door opening and knew who it was. There was only one person who could walk through his house like a dog through his house and who also had the key, besides Leo and his family, without him bothering. But this time it was different because instead of going straight to his room, he heard him walking towards where his destined partner was resting.

He sat up quickly in his bed and pulled on a pair of silk trousers grunting, his taste for only sleeping naked was playing tricks on him. His eyes widened in shock when he heard him scream and knew it was no ordinary sound, his omega was calling for help, his help. He opened the door to his room quickly.

-I’m glad you’re up, save me the trouble, both of you in the living room. Now,” he shook some papers in his hand, “I found something very interesting, not good, and you have to move fast.

Dominic sighed scratching his tense neck and entered the room to see Aidan stuck against the back of the bed with a terrified expression on his face. The alpha walked over and sat on the edge, but didn’t touch him.

The boy looked at him and then at the door, uneasy in case he showed up again. But it wouldn’t be the first time they’d shared some omega that Madox had hired and he couldn’t deny that he’d liked it in more ways than one, but that was something between them. Besides, Aidan was his destined mate, not any he could share, not without the omega’s consent.

Madox raised an eyebrow, something very common for him.

-How sure are you of that?

-You’ve known me for years.

-That doesn’t take away from the fact that you’re an alpha and you have instincts,” he emphasised the last word, implying that he knew what had happened in the bathroom.

Dominic growled low and the boy felt a kind of s****l tension swirling between them suspecting they were holding back more than they were saying.

-Let’s get down to business,” the younger alpha didn’t want to drag it out any longer.

The doctor took out the papers and laid them on the table.

Dead, the word echoed over and over in his head. Aidan couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Had they been able to…. His body began to tremble and a thin layer of sweat appeared on his forehead. He brought his hands to his lap and clenched them tightly.

First they had deceived him by hiding the truth about his true status, he was an omega, not a beta. Then the issue of a courtship and a quasi-imposed engagement from which he could get virtually nothing positive out of, and finally the pills. He’d been taking them for years, for God’s sake. What if he hadn’t met Dominic, what would have happened? Did they intend to let him die just like that?

-Calm down,” Dominic put a hand on him and grabbed it, preventing him from hurting himself any more, “breathe slowly,” he said.

The newly omega blinked and tried to regulate his breathing, but after a few seconds he felt a slight pain in his muscles as they had tensed too much.

-Madox had been quiet the whole time watching his reaction without commenting, he was tactless, but he knew the fragile nature of omegas.

He nodded slightly, it was better to know everything at once to avoid prolonged suffering, besides he wanted to get to the root of it all. The older alpha took a breath and continued.

-As I was saying, I don’t understand why they gave you these pills, but tell me, how often did you take them?

-I took them every day without fail,” he saw Madox’s brow furrow.

-For how long?

-Since I was a puppy and had an accident, I was told I had to stay on the treatment for as long as possible.

-Where did you get them?” the alpha took a sip of coffee.

-My mother was always the one who brought them, I never paid much attention to her, I thought she bought them at the pharmacy.

-Dominic’s eyes widened at his friend’s explanation, and some not very gentle ones.

Maybe he didn’t know much about suppressants, as he was a beta until the other day and didn’t have to be interested in them, but every alpha and omega knew very well that they shouldn’t abuse these substances. They could be effective during the heat, but nothing was free, over a long period of time they could wreak havoc. As long as they were alphas there was not so much of a problem, their oestrus was once every six months and lasted only 24 hours.

As for the omegas, the situation was more complicated, after all, they were delicate. In the long run they could cause miscarriages, or simply make them sterile, not to mention nausea, vomiting and headaches as side effects.

For these reasons some omegas would only go into seclusion for as long as possible instead of taking these drugs. Imagining an omega taking them for years every day made them shudder.

-Madox, is he going to be okay,” Dominic asked.

-So far he doesn’t seem to be doing badly, but I’m worried about his insides, his b***d is too contaminated, plus you told me about his reactions to you. If he’s off the pills he’ll feel like he’s detoxing,” Dominic asked.
