It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 102
Lucia was unusually quiet in the car. The chime of his phone receiving a message was almost too loud in the quiet. She took out her phone and read the message. Malcolm glanced at him, remained silent, and continued driving.
“Lucia, something bad happened. Malcolm came to the villa. I hope you don’t run into him on the way here.
Lucie, are you okay?”
The message came from Catherine. Malcolm had therefore already gone to Catherine’s villa to look for her. Pinning her at the doors clearly hadn’t been his first line of approach. Lucy frowned. “How did he know I was staying with Catherine? » She pushed her thoughts away. There was no reason why he wouldn’t know where she lived. She wasn’t exactly trying to hide anything. Kathryn’s villa was not a secret hideout, and in any case, Zack’s villa was in the same community.
Lucia quickly typed a message to Catherine. She lied. She told him she was fine. She kept her head down and looked up at Malcolm out of the corner of her eye. He didn’t look at her; his attention was focused solely on the road ahead. But judging by the cold look on her face, she wouldn’t be returning to Catherine’s villa that evening. Now she had to face what was coming; she couldn’t keep running away from unresolved problems forever.
Malcolm parked the car in the exclusive parking space in the apartment complex’s underground parking garage. He got out of the car and went around to open the door for Lucia, but she had already done it herself. He looked at her cold, stony face as she stared at him. Her feral cat was clearly still angry. With a shrug, he took her hand and guided her towards the elevator, ignoring her struggles and protests.
“Leave me!” Lucie shouted.
Malcolm paid him no attention. He kept his eyes fixed on the numbers that flickered along the control panel as the elevator ascended to their floor. Lucia began to feel like she didn’t exist at all. No matter what she did, what she said, or how much she struggled, Malcolm gave her no reaction. The sorrow and pain that she had managed to bury deep in her heart burst forth again. It coiled through her body, consuming her entirely in a great wave of sadness. It was like she was drowning, suffocating underneath. She panted heavily, trying to calm herself.
A hint of pity crossed Malcolm’s face. He loosened his grip on Lucia’s hand. Then he sighed, long and hard. He let go of her entirely, giving her temporary freedom. ‘I can’t bring myself to do anything to you, wildcat,’ Malcolm thought.
They walked in silence to the apartment door. Once there, Malcolm typed in the password and swiped his access card. When the door opened, he entered first. Lucie hesitated. Her first instinct was to run, but she knew she wouldn’t get far. She resigned herself to her fate and followed him. She stopped just inside and looked around. Nothing had changed. Everything was exactly like the day he left.
Malcolm glanced at him briefly before going into the kitchen and pouring them each a glass of water. The housekeeper did a good job keeping the place tidy. The apartment was spotless and the fridge was stocked with food. But without the energy of the people living there, the apartment was lifeless.
When Malcolm returned to the living room, it was to find Lucia standing in front of the large French doors, looking out at the city below. She looked like she was deep in thought. He put down the cups of water and went to stand behind her. As he had done in the past, he tenderly slipped his arms around her waist. Lucia began to struggle, surprised by the sudden contact. This time, Malcolm didn’t give up.
“What are you thinking about, wildcat?” Malcolm asked coldly.
“I want a divorce. Why bother continuing like this when it’s clearly not going to work? I’m so tired…” Lucia said helplessly.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, don’t even think about it. We’re not discussing it.” Malcolm’s voice grew cold.
“Malcolm…Stop it. You have to stop…” Lucia said tiredly.
“You’re my wife, wildcat. No one else will ever touch you,” Malcolm said firmly.
He spun Lucia in his arms and slipped his finger under her chin, forcing her head to look at him. Lucia looked down, refusing to look at him. For some reason she felt guilty. Malcolm’s eyes narrowed dangerously, and he could feel cold, cruel anger beginning to flow through his body. A spark of doubt flickered deep within him, but he quickly covered it.
Malcolm’s cruelty crashed over him in such great waves that Lucia shivered. She released her chin from his grip and turned her head away. Suddenly, Malcolm picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. The familiar sight of the large bed brought back all his memories of their intimate moments together. With Malcolm holding her tightly to his chest, she couldn’t help but see her body warming up in a very natural way.
Malcolm looked down at Lucia and chuckled. He laid her down on the bed and crouched over her. Only then did Lucia come to her senses. She began to struggle, pushing and pushing against him.
“I missed you, wildcat,” Malcolm said.
Lucia froze at his words, too afraid to move. When Malcolm realized she wanted to escape, he leaned down and kissed her lovingly to try to convince her to stay. Lucia was so surprised by his sudden wave of affection that she kissed him back. But it didn’t last long.
“No! Leave me! I don’t want to do this!” Lucia screamed and began to struggle again.
She pushed hard against Malcolm’s chest, managing to push him away because he wasn’t expecting it. Lucia rolled out of bed and jumped to her feet. She pulled her sweater tighter around her body and looked at him wearily. Malcolm narrowed his eyes at her. Danger passed over his face like a violent flame. He never expected her to resist him like that.
“Did anyone else influence her?” » The danger in his eyes faded, giving way to a suspicious gloom. He tried to pull her onto the bed again, but she refused. She didn’t want to look at him, but he could tell by her facial expression that she felt guilty. He remained silent and still, just looking at her. Then he let go of her and stood up.
“A month is enough, wildcat,” Malcolm said emotionlessly.
“What do you mean?” Lucia tensed like a creature ready to flee or fight.
“One month of freedom is enough,” Malcolm explained.
“What? You’re being unreasonable!” Lucia sputtered, so angry she could barely speak.
“You’re so lively now.” Greed colored Malcolm’s voice and sparkled in his eyes.
“I want to leave,” Lucia said softly, trying to find a way to free herself.
“One week. One week and then I want you back in this apartment. One week and that’s it,” Malcolm said with a note of finality.
Lucia took one last look at him then left the apartment without looking back. Malcolm stared at Lucia’s retreating figure with a glint of doubt in his eyes. He went down to the parking lot to get the car, just in time to see Lucia get into a taxi. He started the car and drove to the surveillance room of S City.
When he arrived, he parked the car and took a special passage to the basement. The people who worked there looked up in shock when Malcolm entered. Their surprise lasted only a moment before they stood up and bowed respectfully before him. Malcolm ignored them and went to sit in the main seat among the surveillance equipment. He leaned forward, staring intently at the red dot moving across the screen.
“Malcolm?” I thought you would go home and rest. What are you doing here?”
Enoch asked when he entered the room and saw Malcolm’s thoughtful expression. He stood studying Malcolm, noting how his eyes were once again glued to the red dot. A knowing expression crept onto his face.
“Tell me where she went last month. Who was she with? Where did it go?” Malcolm asked coldly.
A strange feeling came over Enoch, but he still told Malcolm everything about Lucia’s activities over the past month. Judging by what Enoch reported , Lucia hadn’t done anything suspicious or wrong. But he couldn’t shake the uneasiness that clung to his mind.
“Send people to keep an eye on her. I want to know who she’s spending her time with these days,” Malcolm ordered coldly.
“Malcolm… Good. I will,” Enoch said with a nod, choking out the rest of what he wanted to say. With
that done, Enoch brought Malcolm numerous reports to read and evaluate. It was well after midnight, but the monitoring room staff were still hard at work.
It was not until the early hours of the next morning that Malcolm left the room.
He got back into his car and headed towards the Evans group. Unexpectedly, he discovered that his private elevator was under maintenance. He frowned and walked towards the director’s elevator. The other people in the elevator immediately tensed up when he entered. No one expected that ‘He’s using this elevator.
Malcolm stuck a hand in his pocket and stared sullenly at the buttons lighting up as the elevator ascended. When it stopped at its designated floors, the managers rushed out , eager to escape the abnormally cold environment. Soon, only Malcolm and Moore remained. Malcolm was going up to the 36th floor, and Moore was going up to the 33rd.
“Hello Mr. Evans. Yesterday, while I was having dinner with a client at a restaurant, I saw Ms. Evans. She looked very good,” Moore said, taking the initiative to talk about a topic which he considered safe.
“Who was she with?” Malcolm asked coldly, glancing at Moore.
“Ah…” Moore blinked, stunned by Malcolm’s question.
It looked like he had upset the boss. He mentally berated himself for being so careless. “Didn’t I learn my lesson the first time?” » He had to remember that talking about Lucia was taboo. He looked up at Malcolm and noticed the sullen expression on his face.
“Answer me,” Malcolm said coldly.
“I don’t know. I think she was with a friend. I met her as she was coming out of the bathroom,” Moore quickly explained.
Fortunately, the elevator stopped on the 33rd floor. He glanced hesitantly at Malcolm before leaving the elevator. He felt like his heart would give out if he stayed there a moment longer. “I wonder what simple thing our boss said became less scary after he got married.” In his opinion, Malcolm had only gotten worse. It was a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
Finally, the elevator stopped on the 36th floor. Malcolm walked out, his expression dark and brooding. Bob was already waiting for him. When he saw Malcolm, he got up and followed him into his office. Bob stood outside Malcolm’s office, dutifully reporting on all the cases the group had handled during Malcolm’s absence.
Since Malcolm had left, something had changed. He just couldn’t understand what it was.
