It’s Love That Blinds Him – Chapter 103
Lucia entered the house with a gloomy face. Looking at her, Kathryn sighed silently and refrained from asking questions. She knew that Lucia must have passed Malcolm on the way home. Lucia absently muttered a dull greeting to Catherine before heading up the stairs. Once she entered her room, she closed the door, plopped down on her bed and buried her head under the soft pillow.
Malcolm’s charming face still hovered in his mind and the familiar nickname rang in his ears. His sudden return makes Lucia very uncomfortable. She worried about the messy situation she had gotten herself into and what would happen in the future. As all sorts of scenarios ran through her mind, Lucia scratched her hair irritably and sat up, tossing the pillow aside. She couldn’t even imagine how furious Malcolm would be if he knew what had happened between her and Lowell.
She was annoyed that she still cared so much about what Malcolm thought, and she was even more annoyed that her body reacted instinctively when he kissed her. It was as if all the efforts she had made to forget him over the last month had vanished into thin air. The truth was she couldn’t even resist his simple words. Thinking of this, Lucia m****d loudly. She wished she could release the confusion and anxiety building up in her heart.
She didn’t know when she fell asleep, or what she was dreaming about. The next morning, when Lucia woke up, she felt like her head had been run over by a car. She had a terrible headache and her mind was in disarray.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps outside her door, instantly filling her with nervousness. “Is it Malcolm again?” » While Lucia was lost in thought, the door opened and Kathryn came running in, out of breath, with a newspaper in her hand. Part of Lucia was relieved that it wasn’t Malcolm, but at the same time she was worried about Kathryn’s strange behavior. Before she could even open her mouth to ask what was going on, Catherine beat her to it.
“Lucie, bad news. You’ve made headlines again,” she said, panting. It was obvious that she had run up the stairs as soon as she saw the news.
With a frown, Lucia took Catherine’s diary and read the first page carefully. Printed on the first page was a large photo. In the photo, Lucia was walking into a restaurant hand-in-hand with Lowell. After thinking for a moment, Lucia remembered what happened that day. She had a nagging feeling that she was being watched, but when she turned her head, she found no one suspicious. But now it looked like she was photographed by a paparazzi. She hadn’t imagined any of this. These journalists really didn’t want to give up!
The headlines read: “Mrs. Evans and her lover had dinner together and they appeared to be close.”
The headline was so simple, leaving nothing up for debate. Although this photo did not show the man’s face, the fact did that Lucia was holding his hand was enough to convince everyone that Lucia was having an affair. Plus, it wasn’t hard to see that it was the same man from the previous report. After all, his back was the same.
With such evidence presented clearly, there was nothing Lucia could do to remove the stigma from her name. She stared at the photo in the newspaper for a long time. Then she read each word carefully. These journalists were really good at guessing, and at least half the report was factual. Lucia knew how angry Malcolm would be when he saw this article. It was
said that bad things came in threes. Before Lucia could think about how to handle situation, his phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, she bit her lower l*p and sighed inwardly. The phone rang in her hand for a long time, but she didn’t answer. Kathryn craned her neck curiously to glance at the caller ID and nodded in understanding.
“Lucia, what are you going to do?” she asked sympathetically.
The caller appeared to be very patient, because moments after the phone stopped ringing, it started ringing again. Annoyed, Lucia covered her ears with her hands. Finally, she simply muted the loud phone and stuffed it under the pillow. His mind was finally calm now.
“I’ll be leaving soon. Kathryn, I’m sorry for causing you trouble like that. If Malcolm comes back, just tell him you don’t know where I am,” Lucia whispered guiltily. “It’s
okay . He won’t do anything to me.” Kathryn waved her hand indifferently. Although Malcolm had a cold exterior, she could tell he would never express his anger on innocent people. “But
Lucia, where are you going to go? Catherine asked with concern.
Since the journalists could take such a photo, then it would not be difficult for them to discover that she was staying in this villa area. Even if they could not identify the exact villa, they must have already be gathered in front of the doors. It would be difficult for a fly to go unnoticed, let alone Lucia. How could she escape under so many watchful eyes?
Lucia bit her lower l*p, finding it difficult to answer that question. With a g***n, she fell back on the bed, dejected. She could see how worried Catherine was at a glance. As the protagonist of recent gossip, Lucia had long learned how terrible these reporters could be. “Why am I so unlucky this year? Why do I keep facing problem after problem? »
At Evans Group, there was dead silence in the CEO’s office. Enoch, who was sitting on the sofa, looked pale. Kaleb stood to the side, head bowed in silence. Guilt was written all over his face, as if he was blaming himself for the situation. The rest of the men standing next to him didn’t dare say a word either. On the couch opposite Enoch sat Malcolm, whose entire body was enveloped in anger and sadness. As he looked at everyone with dark eyes, the temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees.
“What? Is this the result you wanted to give me?” Malcolm asked, his tone cold as ice.
No one dared to make a sound, and they all simply turned to Enoch with pleading eyes. Enoch looked at them with a helpless look that said, “I know you’re afraid of him, but so am I.” Once he gets angry, there’s no telling what he’ll do. He won’t pity me even if I’m his brother.
But taking pity on men, Enoch finally gathered his courage to explain the current situation.
“Malcolm, the tracker on Lucia’s foot can only tell us where she is, but not who she is with. For the past month, she has followed a normal routine, without going anywhere strange or suspicious. There must be a detail that we have forgotten.”
After all, the people watching Lucia were not idle. They had a lot of work to do. How could they just look at the computer screen every day to see where she was and look up the address every time she went somewhere else? Actually, they had at first, but after realizing that Lucia had a pattern and only went to a few places she frequented, they relaxed their vigilance and only checked the monitor. ‘occasionally. And every time they checked, Lucia was in one of those same places. How could they have predicted anything would go wrong?
It was like a stroke of bad luck.
Hearing Enoch’s explanation, Malcolm just gave him a sullen look. Frightened, Enoch swallowed the rest of his words and unconsciously leaned back on the couch. Under Malcolm’s cold gaze, he felt like he was going to be dragged out and executed.
“I didn’t call you all here to listen to excuses. I’ll give you a day. If you can’t find out the identity of this man by tomorrow…” Malcolm paused and called out to everyone present a meaningful look.
“If I can’t find out the identity of this man by tomorrow, I will kill myself,” Kaleb assured in a guilty tone. He felt that it was his own negligence that had caused all these problems.
When Enoch heard this, his jaw dropped slightly in astonishment. “Is Kaleb that stupid?” The man in this report is obviously the same man in the previous report. If we couldn’t find out his identity then, how can we do it now in just one day?
Wait…’ Suddenly a thought flashed through Enoch’s mind, so fast that he couldn’t catch it in time. He felt like he was on the verge of an important discovery, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Noticing the subtle change in Enoch’s expression, Malcolm waved the other men away. Soon, he and Enoch were the only people left in the office.
When Enoch realized everyone was gone, he hurriedly got up to follow them outside, but stopped when he noticed Malcolm’s cold gaze.
“What are you thinking about?” Malcolm asked.
“I feel like there’s something weird about this situation, but I can’t say what it is,” Enoch said honestly.
Malcolm nodded slowly, slipping into his thoughts. When he heard Enoch’s next words, however, his head snapped up to face him, and his face grew colder.
“Malcolm, is it possible that the man in the photo works for this guy? But if so, what is his motive? Is he trying to drive a wedge between you and Lucia? But that doesn’t work. makes no sense. Surely he must know about Lucia’s condition. There’s no need to come between you two, because you and Lucia…” Noticing the warning look on Malcolm’s face , Enoch swallowed the rest of his words.
For a moment, Malcolm didn’t respond. What happened in the past flashed through his mind. Grinding his teeth in anger, he reached out and swept the newspaper on the desk to the floor. Whether Enoch’s guess was right or not did not matter. Judging by the photo in the newspaper, Malcolm was sure Lucia was having an affair.
“Study it thoroughly. And send someone to keep an eye on her. If anything goes wrong again, you will be sent to the branch in Burma,” Malcolm ordered coldly. “Understood.” Shoulders slumped,
Enoch left the office dejectedly.
Finally alone in the office, Malcolm got up and walked towards the French windows. Watching the busy traffic on the city roads, he took out a cigarette and lit it, even though he didn’t wasn’t in the habit of smoking. After taking a single drag, he stuck the burning end of the long cigarette into the ashtray. The fire slowly dimmed and quickly disappeared. ‘Wildcat, things better
not not be what they seem. Otherwise, I will destroy you with my own hands.
