Luna Abigail -
Chapter 39
Third person P.O.V.
Down in the cell, Narine tries to close out the horrid sensory spell Morgan has put on her prison. She can hear, sometimes see and sometimes smell, different parts of pack life. It was a never ending torture, and she had about enough of it.
The first few days here, she tried her siren calling song to catch that fool of an ex mate, so he would help her escape. But to her regret, it didn’t work. She heard pack gossip about how distraught their second beta seemed since he and the second gammas mates had fallen into a coma. At least some of her plan was working.
She was not letting them escape her personally designed hell without something in return. That something would put a nice little bow on everything, for now. To get her ex mate to reject that bitch to Jasmin. But she would not stop there. Jax had to reject his precious little princess, and accept her to be his Queen. Yes! Her plan was flawless.
As the day passed, Narine got bored. There was nothing to do down in this hellhole, and no one came to visit anymore. Had she played too hard to get?! She was contemplating how to go about that when a surge of excitement hit the cell. The Queen and the Luna had both gone into labor. Narine looked outside the little window, not liking the blue moon. It could be a terrible omen for her. She listened intently for any signs of news through the grapevines, that was her source of outside life.
Then, as the hours passed, Narine sat back and let out the breath she was holding. It would not have any effect. The Queen and Luna’s children would be as ordinary and boring as their parents. She was sure of it. Narine thought about her plan once again. The enchantment on Adriana and Jasmin had been her back-up plan, should anything in plan A go wrong. As it had. She thought over her requirements for releasing the girls, and what she was going to do when she was Queen. So sure of her victory.
Then something in the air changed. Something powerful had just come into the realm. All the pack, magic or not, could feel it. The excitement grew, and then Narine felt something snap inside of her. Her spell had been broken, and it had released the girls. But how? Who? No one but the true caster of that enchantment could break it. Not unless. But how was that even possible? She looked at the blue full moon again. Cursing the moon goddess. She knew who was responsible for this to happen, but not who, in reality, had done it. She would have her revenge.
In the hospital, down the hall from where Abby and Ellie were giving birth to the new generation, Jonathan and Jeremy were talking. Sitting beside their mate, holding a hand and hoping beyond hope they would wake up. Kaiden walked into the room in the afternoon and told them Abby and Ellie had gone into labor, and it excited them for their Queen and Luna.
They listened a bit to the talk amongst the nurses in the hallway, asking questions when one of them came in to check on their mate. A few hours after Kaiden told them about the labor, a nurse came in, chuckling to herself. She told them both alphas had broken a hand from their mate, grabbing so hard. Both men cringed a bit, but then laughed. Their female leaders were badass, and they respected them! They had not given up finding a cure for Adriana and Jasmin, but had pressed on even when the due date came closer.
Hours passed. It became dark outside, and the moon rose high in the sky. Both men gasped. It was crystal blue. A phenomenon so rare, only tales were told about it these days.
Jasper walked in. Looking in sadness at his sister. He patted both men on the shoulder and asked them to get something to eat and a bath. He would sit with them both and call a nurse to mind-link them if anything changed. They both reluctantly got up to do as he said.
Everyone had become closer after Adriana, and Jasmin fainted. They had closed ranks and taken care of each other. Taking it in turns to sit with the girls, so Jonathan and Jeremy could get some sleep, food and a bath once in a while.
They weren’t gone longer than twenty minutes, but as they walked down the hallway, Jasper suddenly emerged, a wild look in his eyes. He grabbed a nurse, but let her go as his eyes found Jonathans.
“They are awake.” He gasped out before disappearing into the room again.
Both ran into the room, heart beating frantically. Jeremy rushed to Adriana’s side, and she clung to him like her life depended on it. Apologizing again and again. Crying her heart out. Her vitals skyrocketed, and soon there were doctors and nurses all around her.
Jonathan ran to his mate’s side, but she was in the arms of her brother. She wouldn’t even look at him! She kept crying and shaking, but wouldn’t let go of Jasper, who desperately tried to get her to turn into Jonathan so the matebond would calm her down. But she wouldn’t budge.
Jasper gave Jonathan a look of sadness and apology. He shook his head. If he had learned anything by the stories told by Jasper, he would rush nothing. She had been through enough and if she needed her brother to hold her now. He would not be the one to complain or act like a jerk about it.
He sat down on the bed and took her hand. Hoping the sparks and warmth from that would help her. She didn’t yank her hand away, but she still wouldn’t meet his eyes.
“Whatever you’ve been through. Whatever you doubt at the moment, Jasmin. I am not going anywhere. Neither is your brother! You are my mate, and whatever you need from me – speak it and I will obey.” Jonathan says in a small hoarse voice. Tears streaming down his own chin. She finally looks at him.
“Please, just reject me and get it over with.” She pleads, and his heart breaks. Why would she ask that of him? Jasper seemed to have enough of this and promptly shifts her into his lap. He immediately wraps his arms around her small fragile frame.
“That I cannot comply, I’m afraid. I will not reject you! I, Jonathan Skye, accept you Jasmin Darkmoon, as my mate and equal.” He states. Jasmin looks up at him with wide eyes before she breaks down again and cries into him. Holding on for dear life.
Abby’s P.O.V.
About three days after giving birth, we could take our little ones home to the pack house. The grandparents and all the aunts and uncles had been here to say hello. It had been damn near impossible to make Ornate, Helena and Sally leave again. They were totally smitten with the twins and the twins with them. Maze kept switching between his wolf cub and his human baby side, making it obvious for us all he was getting the hang of shifting.
Amber was, without a doubt, a giant mystery to us. A perfect mix between me and Matt, whereas her brother was the spitting image of his dad. Handsome and cute in a good mix, but with my purple and silver eyes.
But my little girl. Geez. First, she was warmer than the normal baby, which the doctors took all sorts of test for, but came up with; “that’s just her normal. She is special.” And second, she keeps making fireballs float over her head.
Then, when I thought things with my babies could not get any weirder, it took a notch up the scale. Morgan and Brandon came to visit the day after the twins were born. Both me and Ellie were exhausted, and we opted to stay together to help each other. I had just fed Maze, and was burping him when Morgan waddled through the door. She could literally pop any day, and the doctors were monitoring her.
The second she walked through the door, Maze fussed. Like a lot! He tried to turn on my shoulder, and when I took him down, he reached towards Morgan instantly. She took him, and he fussed even more. Her eyes were wide with his ‘eh eh eh’ sounds. Brandon took him from her arms, laughing at our confused expressions.
He asks his mate to sit down, and when she did, he put Maze in proximity of her belly. Maze lay his head there and purred. A sound I didn’t know an infant could make.
“What the actual f**k.” I uttered, while Brandon was laughing his a*s off. Then suddenly he became very serious, and then he paled. At that second, Matt walked through the door. Called in there because of the sea of emotions coming from me.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” Matt asks worriedly. He takes in my wide eyes, looking at Morgan in the chair, and Brandon kneeling on the floor with Maze laying on Morgan’s belly.
“Uhm, bro. What are you??” He lifts an eyebrow, and then laughs.
“Damn. That’s though, Bran.” Matt laughs, while telling the rest of the room he suspects Maze to be the mate of Morgan and Brandon’s child.
“How can that be? They are an infant, and unborn baby? They can’t have mates already? Right?” I ask the room. Matt shrugs.
“Our babies are special, and it makes sense. Morgan is the Mother of her coven, more witch than werewolf. No offense.” She smiles and shakes her head.
“And Brandon, the knucklehead he is, is pure werewolf, no magic. Their child will be a mix between magic and shifter, and with being mated to Maze, the next Queen amongst both fractions.” I nod, following his logic.
Brandon complains non stop about how unfair that is. He hasn’t held his child yet, and Maze is already claiming her. He also tells us it is a girl, and they have known for a while but wanted to surprise us. Well, surprise.
From then on, Maze was practically attached to Morgan every time she is proximity to him. Crying when she leaves, and fussing if she is away for too long.
When Winter came to visit a week later, along with Willow and Jax, she took one look at my babies and chuckled.
“The destiny, children, as I live and breathe.” She said. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Uhm. Miss Winter.” I began, but she held up her hand.
“She is a fire elemental, and she is impossible strong already.” Winter answers, and then looks at Maze, who babbles in baby language at her. She smiles a little, taking his hand.
“Please mind-link the beta female, Abigail.”
That was a strange request, but I do as she asks. Mind-linking Laurel to come to the nursery, and bring Kaiden. He had been so busy lately, arranging for the alpha gathering and making sure we were stuck up in the kitchen. Laurel had been assisting him, doing a wonderful job at being organised, and keeping me in the loop.
I think sometimes she is feeling left out, because all of my other female friends, close friends, are my sisters or my soul sisters in the star wolves. But she is wonderful and has not once complained about anything.
Five minutes later, Kaiden and Laurel walk into the nursery hand in hand.
“Hey Abby. What’s up?” Kaiden asks, munching on an apple. Laurel rolls her eyes, and I smile. Winter clears her throat. Both their heads snap to her. They both look confused why she is here, but greet her, Willow and Jax none the less. Willow is sitting in a chair beside Amber’s crib, holding her hand and humming a melody. Jax is standing by her side, emotions swirling in his eyes.
“Miss Laurel. I was the one to ask the Queen to get you here. I need you to take Maze’s hand. Please.” Laurel looks at me, and I shrug my shoulders. I do not know as well what is happening. Winter taps her feet impatiently.
“Come on, girl, I don’t have all day here. I need to get my things ready before Willow has to be back in the horrid place.” This gets our attention.
“Grandmother? What do you mean, pack?” Willow asks from her chair. Jax looks amused.
“That is exactly what I meant, child. I am going with you back, and that is final. I don’t trust that overgrown kitty cat to look after you properly.” She sends Jax a disapproving look. Both of them smile in return, even though Jax doesn’t look too happy to be called an overgrown kitty cat.
Laurel moves to Maze’s crib, grabbing his hand. The moment she touches him, her eyes and hair become bright white, and her body stiffens.
“As I suspected.” Winter scoffs.
Laurel lets go of Maze, and collapses on the ground. I am at her side immediately. Brandon was on her other side. She is trembling, crying, and gasping for air. What the hell?
“What happened?” I ask Winter in my Luna Queen tone.
“She is a seer, is what happened.” Winter answers nonchalantly. She is a what now? Winter sighs and sits down on the floor, her legs crossed. She takes Laurel’s hand in hers.
“Child. Follow my voice! Walk with me, breath in the air and collect your mind. Feel my warmth, know what is real. What is yet to come, and what has happened in the past? Walk along, and come back to life.” Winters’ voice is deep and ethereal. She is calling out to Laurel’s soul, as much as her mind.
Slowly Laurel regains some of her color. She’s been deadly pale ever since her vision. Her hair is no longer bright white, but regaining their normal color as well. When she opens her eyes, they are back to normal, too.
“I. I. What happened? What was that?” Her voice is shaking with fright, as she looks at me and Winter with all her questions. I do not know and am just as confused as her.
“You, my dear, are a seer. Didn’t you know?” Winter states. Laurel shakes her head no. She obviously had no idea.
“Well, I felt it the first time I saw you! The power is as strong in you as it is in the child you are carrying.” Winter says, looking down at her flat stomach. Then Kaiden interrupts.
“Hold on one minute. What child.. Are we? Are you.. Pregnant?” He puts a hand on her belly as she cries in her hands. She nods, saying she only just found out this morning, and didn’t know how to tell him. Winter looks remorseful and apologizes to have spoiled her moment.
“You really didn’t. I did not know how to tell him, so you helped. But I am more concerned about you calling me a seer? I have shown none signs of being.. Extraordinary.” Laurel says. I pat her on the arm. She is most likely picturing that idiot of a father telling her how useless she is.
“Well. Have you ever known when things were happening? Or prevented something from happening? Or found lost people without the knowledge of where they were beforehand?” Winter asks. Laurel nods, thinking hard.
“That’s the gift. But under the circumstances of not being nurtured, it will not progress or blossom. It will stay as an intuition, a secret.” Laurel looks dumbfounded.
“I am special?” She asks in a small voice. Kaiden make to speak, but I beat him to it!
“You’ve always been special! With or without powers, you are the most wonderful, caring, organized and sweet person! An amazing beta female, and my first real friend. I know we’ve drifted a bit, because of everything that’s happened, but you are special in every way. You are loved by all. Pack members, ranked members and all in between.” I say, while shredding a tear.
Winter stands up.
“Well, it seems that I’ll have to travel to and from, so I can teach this young woman how to harvest her powers properly.” She states, looking Jax in the eyes.
“I’ll take you whenever you need it, but I am not staying throughout her sessions.” Winter nods, accepting that.
“I will take you back afterwards.” I offer.
While we were talking, Winter was scolding Laurel a bit and Kaiden kept telling her how special he thinks she is and how much he already loves his little bean – Winter correcting it to Beans. I received a urgent mind-link from Matt. Morgan had gone into labor, but something was wrong. They needed me at the hospital ASAP!
Explaining while running out the door, everyone in there promised to stay and keep an eye on my babies. I had pumped out after their meal earlier, so there was food to give of they became hungry. Winter exclaimed this was the perfect time to start training, and I was out the door.
Entering the hospital, I saw Brandon and Matt standing in the hallway. I ran to them, asking a million questions a minute.
Matt told me they had taken Morgan to the OP, stating she had lost to much b***d, and her placenta was loose. They said Brandon had to wait out in the hallway while they operated, and they were doing everything they could to save mother and child. He looked so lost, tears streaming down his cheeks and his eyes glued to the door towards where his mate and child were.
I took his hand, guiding him towards the benches, Matt following behind.
After what seemed like hours, a nurse came out with a bundle in her arms.
“It’s a little girl, gamma.” She says with a small smile that did not reach her eyes. Brandon, fixated on his little girl, does not notice.
“Can I? May I? She is so little.” He stutters, as the nurse puts the bundle in his arms.
‘My Queen, we may need you in there. Your powers.. It’s not looking good.’ The nurse mind-links. I nod and tell Matt, who distracts Brandon with random baby talk. He is too absorbed in his little princess to notice me walking with the nurse.
I shift into the clothing for being in the operation room, and walk in to chaos. They are working on Morgan in orderly chaos. But she is losing so much b***d. I know this will be out of my hands before I even settle in there.
As the monitor numbers drop, a long line follows with a long and desperate beeeeeeeeeep. I quickly mind-link Kaiden to sent Willow. She is my only hope now, and she needs to hurry.
Outside in the hallway I can hear commotion, as Brandon feels their matebond snap.
