My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1788
Just as Aaron was about to share his plan to take down Serene with me, my cell phone suddenly rang, so he had no to stop talking.
Picking up the phone, I saw that Raiya was calling me. I was a little confused at this. The last time I saw her, she had just given birth. She should have just finished recuperating by now. What business did she have with me?
Out of politeness, I answered her call, "Hello, Raiya. What's up?"
"Arianna, there's something I need your help with." Raiya's sounded a little hesitant and she seemed a little embarrassed.
"First you need to tell me everything. As long as you're not asking for too much, I won't refuse your request."
After all, she and Sawyer already see me as family. It would be rude of me to reject her right away.
"Could you help me get in touch with Sawyer? I haven't seen him for a whole week. I'm a little worried about him."
She seemed to be covering the phone deliberately, but I still heard a suppressed sob from the
receiver.
The last time I was in the hospital, I already had a bad feeling. Her reaction further confirmed my suspicions. I asked, "What happened? Tell me the truth."
There was a long silence on the other end. After a long pause, Raiya found her voice again, "It's nothing urgent, Arianna. It's just that Sawyer has been pushing himself too hard for the company lately, and I'm worried that he won't be able to take the pressure. So, if you meet him, please tell him that I'm fine now. I'll hang up now. That's all. I'll call you later. Goodbye."
"Rai" Just as I was about to ask her for more details, I heard the dial tone. She had hung up on me.
I looked at my phone screen and saw that it had returned to the lock screen. The uneasiness in my heart grew. I frowned and called Sawyer.
Normally, if Raiya was unable to call him, no one else would be able to get through. However, just a few seconds after I called him, a familiar voice replied. Sawyer greeted me, "Hello."
Right then, everything made sense. Sawyer had been hiding from Raiya ever since she gave birth. Perhaps Raiya was hiding the truth, and they hadn't contacted each other for longer than a
week.
"Where are you?" My voice turned icy in an instant.
No matter the circumstances, as her husband, he shouldn't have neglected Raiya right after she gave birth. She hadn't heard from him for more than a week. That was simply irresponsible of him. Ignoring my question, Sawyer changed the subject by saying, "What's the matter?"
I knew him all too well. He was trying to brush the matter aside, making him seem even guiltier than before.
"I have some business to discuss with you. Where are you now? Let's meet at my law firm in half an hour. Do you know the address? If you don't, just search it up!"
Sawyer's sudden change in behavior annoyed me to no end, so I immediately hung up after saying that.
"Who were you talking to? Why are you so angry?" Aaron looked at me timidly, as though he was afraid that I would take it out on him.
I clenched my jaw and turned my head away. My anger-filled gaze landed on him as I retorted, "I was talking to a man!"
In the end, out of worry that I would actually vent my anger on him, Aaron got off the car halfway.
He was getting ready to pick Anne up from school.
When I returned to the office, I waited for over an hour, but Sawyer was nowhere to be seen. When Mullen, who had glasses and formal attire on, came in and asked me to sign a document, I was stuck in a daze. I failed to listen to a single word she said.
