My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1920
I didn't expect him to be so gallant. After a pause, I shook my head with a smile. "Don't mention it. Wynn is so lovely, no one would just stand by if they see him in trouble. Pardon my presumption, but try to prioritize the safety of your family, in spite of the fact that making money is important. If it's possible, you'd better arrange a few bodyguards for Wynn."
I had no intention of meddling in his business. I just felt close to Wynn, thus I did not want anything bad happening to him. In rich families, heirs would do anything to contend for the succession to the properties. Even Wynn had been abandoned by his stepmother-to-be; who knew what could happen in the future?
Thinking of this, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the little fellow. At the end of the day, being born with a silver spoon in his mouth may not be as big a blessing as many thought it to be.
Hendrix's face fell when he heard my words and he shot me a strange look.
I felt uncomfortable under his stare. Just as I was about to make an excuse to leave, my phone rang. It was Freya.
"How are you? Have you arrived home?" Freya's voice was full of penitence. "It's all my fault. I didn't handle the paparazzi in advance. It's rare for us to hang out together, but I've screwed it up."
"It doesn't matter. Let's meet up again next time. I've been shopping by myself for a while, but I'm going home now. I'll call you when I get back."
I had been busy chatting with Wynn after ordering our food, so I completely forgot about Freya.
After hanging up, and before the phone screen was turned off, Irvin's ID popped up.
Irvin's side was silent. "You've gone out?"
"Yes." I glanced at the time, and saw that it was already seven. He must be getting off work. "I came shopping with Freya and we lost track of time. I'm going home now."
"Send my your location and wait for me there."
"It's alright, I'll just take a taxi. I'm not a princess."
I was definitely no rival of Irvin's when it came to arguing, so I decided to hang up immediately to end the conversation.
Subsequently, I left the shopping mall with Hendrix and his son.
Perhaps it was due to their good looks that many customers in the mall kept shooting glances at us.
It wasn't until we reached the entrance of the mall that we found that it was raining outside.
It was peak hour, and with the weather like this... it would take a miracle for me to get myself a taxi.
"Madam Pretty, why don't you go back by our car?" Wynn suddenly came up to me and tugged at the hem of my shirt. Before I could answer, he blinked his watery eyes and said to Hendrix, "Daddy, Madam Pretty helped me. Shall we send her home?"
Hendrix remained silent and did not reply.
We were adults and we wouldn't express our displeasure pointedly.
As I was about to refuse, I heard Hendrix's gruff voice coming from the opposite side. "I'll go and get the car. Keep an eye on Wynn."
Raising my head and looking over, I only saw his back while he walked into the mall.
Soon, Hendrix arrived at the entrance with his car. It was a black Maybach, an indication of his noble status.
Just as I was hesitating whether to get into it or not, the security guard of the mall opened the umbrella to cover Wynn's and my head. He flatteringly gestured and escorted us to get inside.
I reluctantly accepted the offer.
"Yay! Let's go to Madam Pretty's house!" Wynn was very excited as soon as he got into the car.
I extended my hand to stroke his head while smiling. After I told Hendrix the address of Irvin's villa, I said nothing more.
Hendrix focused on driving the car while Wynn and I sat in the back seat and had an animated chat along the way.
My eyes strayed to the rear-view mirror, and noticed that Hendrix seemed to be a little absentminded
I didn't know if it was because he was wary of me that he kept stealing glances at me through the mirror every now and then.
