After I grew up, there were no shooting stars in the bustling city of Ucrebury. There were only fireworks that were brighter and more dazzling than shooting stars. They were all transient, fleeting and sad, making me no longer want to make a wish.

At the moment, I was incredibly sincere, hoping that Hendrix and I could have a child.

A warm feeling enveloped my body. Hendrix was embracing me. With his arms around me, his voice was low and reserved as he whispered in my ear, "Arianna, I owe you a wedding."

Hearing that, I couldn't help but smile. I raised my head and looked at him. The beautiful fireworks made his face look particularly handsome.

"Hendrix, I don't want a wedding. I only need you by my side."

He hugged me and planted a gentle kiss on my forehead, "Then, it's a deal. Neither of us is allowed to leave each other."

It was only after many years that I finally realized that some regrets would forever be buried in one's heart.

The fireworks in Jarold City lit up the dark sky, accompanied by snow throughout the night.

Hendrix had not fully recovered from his injuries yet, so he could not stay outside in the cold for too long. However, he held on because he wanted to let me watch fireworks for a longer time.

I was worried about him and helped him back to the bedroom. Then, I looked at him and said, "I can also watch the fireworks on the balcony. Go take a bath."

Hearing that, he smiled slightly, raised his hand and brushed the end of my nose before walking into the bathroom.

I loved fireworks, and even if they were fleeting and transient, I still liked them unconditionally.

My phone vibrated for a long while with a call from an unfamiliar number. After hesitating for a moment, I still picked it up.

No one spoke on the other end of the line, and it seemed that the person had intentionally chosen to remain silent. I instantly frowned, preparing to hang up on the call.

Unexpectedly, someone at the other end of the line said, "Happy New Year!"

The voice was low and restrained. It was a voice I was familiar with, and it belonged to Irvin. I had forgotten that Hendrix had prohibited me from contacting him, and I had deleted his phone number from my cell phone.

Outside the window were beautiful fireworks. Perhaps, at the moment, everything was gorgeous and wonderful. I spoke with a lighter tone, "Happy New Year."

He said, "Okay!"

Then, a long silence ensued. It was probably because happy people could not understand others' sorrows.

Therefore, I had never noticed his loneliness. Instead, I looked up at the sky and commented, "The fireworks tonight are beautiful. Irvin, thank you. I hope that we will be well."

It was a wish, but it was also a glimmer of hope. If it was possible, I hoped everyone would get better and better.

Irvin would have his own child and family. Hendrix and I would be the same as well. With three meals a day, two children, a house, and nine- to- five workdays, we would be able to live an ordinary life with slightly more warmth.

Irvin stayed quiet and there was just a long silence. I guessed that he was reluctant to speak.

So, I just watched the fireworks in the sky in silence. Hendrix came out of the bathroom and hugged me from behind.

He asked in a low and magnetic voice, "Do you like fireworks very much?"

I nodded, smelling the faint fragrance of the body wash on his body, "This winter is a bit long. Let's go back to Hovell and stay there for some time when you're done with your work here. I'm starting to miss the watermelons and roses on the wall in the backyard."

He nodded and wrapped his arms around me. Resting his chin on my shoulder, I could feel his warm breath as he said, "Alright."

"Who are you talking to on the phone?" He lowered his head and asked casually when he saw the phone in my hand.

I suddenly realized that I was still on the phone with Irvin. I subconsciously looked down and wanted to hang up on the call.

However, it seemed that Irvin had already hung up. It was just that the screen was still lit.

I couldn't help feeling a little guilty when I answered his question, "It's just a call from a friend."
