Her hands gripped her knee, probably because the temperature in the car was too low. Noting her shiver, I adjusted the temperature.

"You had the self-awareness to know that you are not good enough for him, so you left. I can admire that. You are not annoying after all." She glanced at the air conditioner that I adjusted and said, "Thank you!"

I forced a smile and didn't bother disputing her words. I said instead, Why don't I drive you to the hospital? You must be hurting badly, your ankle having been sprained twice in a row." She nodded and said off-handedly, "Okay, since you have nothing to do anyway."

After arriving at the hospital, the doctor said that her foot was caused by ligament strain and that she should stay home and rest for a few days. He prescribed her some ointment and medicines.

"Take me home. It's not convenient for me to take a taxi." She said.

Indeed, it was inconvenient to take a taxi from the hospital. I nodded.

Linda called. "What took you so long? What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I brought her to the hospital. I'm waiting for her medication. Please tell Sebastian that I'll be back soon."

"F*ck, Arianna, do you have a hole in your head? This woman is trying to snatch your man away from you. Why are you taking care of her like this, is there something wrong with your brain?" The voice on the mobile phone was loud enough for me to wince.

"Well, I'm driving. We'll talk later!" After hanging up, I continued driving.

"If it weren't for Hendrix, I might have become friends with you," she suddenly said.

Stunned, I looked at her from the corner of my eye. Where was this coming from?

She smiled innocently, "You can't be friends with a rival in love, can you?"

After a pause, she continued, "I'm very curious as to why you left Hendrix. In my opinion, he is sincere about you."

"Everyone has their own difficulties. Lovers need luck on their side for a relationship to work out. When two people have been together for a while, things might fizzle out. Naturally, we stopped seeing each other." I stopped at the red light.

She pressed her lips together and said after a moment of silence, "Arianna, that's probably it. I feel that I will be happier than you. At least, I won't leave him for any reason."

I forced a smile and didn't respond.

After sending Rowane home, I returned to the company. Linda handed me a glass of ice water and said, "How was it? Are you jealous after meeting your rival in love?" "No!" I took a sip of the water and felt myself cool down. It was still uncomfortably hot in August.

She clicked her tongue and sat down in front of me. "No, what on earth do you think you're doing? Do you really want to do this? Are you giving up on Hendrix?" She asked in an exceptionally serious tone. This topic had gone on for way too long, and I was not in the mood to talk about it anymore. So I changed the topic. "Isn't it Valentine's Day in two days? Shall we make an appointment with Naomi to have dinner together?"

She nodded. "Sure. By the way, the ointment I bought for you today was given to me by Evan!"

"Evan?" I was surprised.

She nodded. "I met him as soon as I went out. Hendrix asked him to buy you some ointment too.

When he met me, he knew that I was about to buy it for you, so he gave it to me."

I felt something tug at my heartstrings, I could feel my resolve wavering. I sighed slightly and didn't reply.

Taking my silence to mean something, she went on, "Arianna, no matter what has happened, you and Hendrix still care about each other, don't you? In that case, why overthink things and torture yourself like this? Today, you were so close to Sebastian and even let him apply the medicine for you. You didn't see Hendrix's face. He was so upset."
