Yea, I felt s**t about how Devon was feeling, but Anthea was my mate and my main concern and protection went to her. Anthea looked up at me after Violet had walked off with an expectant look. ” What ? ” I asked her and she rolled her eyes. ” Go follow him ” she told me and I shook my head. “I am not leaving your side, while ever that crazy b***h is about ” I told her and her eyes narrowed. She stepped back and crossed her arms over her chest. ” You need to go to our friend. I am going to the house to see my dad , and I am surrounded by my family and yours. You know the alpha and all them. I am sure I will be fine while you go and speak to him. Plus I’m a badass now ” she smirked and I couldn’t help but laugh at her cheeky smile.

Grabbing her sassy a*s, I pulled her into my arms and crushed her to me. ” You could be the moon goddess herself and I would still jump in front of you and any danger coming “, I told her, and her smile softened. ” I know , but he needs you. He’s my friend too and I want you to go sort this out between you. I know both of you are skeptical about whether she was true to her word. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be his friend and comfort him ” she stuck out her bottom l*p in a child-like pout.

Looking at where he disappeared and then back down to her, I rolled my eyes. ” Fine but you don’t leave that house. I separated us once today , letting you stay behind and do your magic thing. But don’t make it a habit “, I winked at her and now it was her turn to roll her eyes. She pulled back from my arms and pushed me in the chest. ” Go ” she said, shooing me away. I slowly stepped back growling and then span on my heels and changed in the air to my wolf. I heard her call me a show off through our link , but I was too busy tracking Devon now.

The quicker I found my friend and we had this out , the quicker I got back to my mate. I don’t know, I just have this feeling I shouldn’t be leaving her side at that minute. She was going through a lot , who and what she was kept changing by the day and she had yet to really show any signs of it getting to her. I caught Devon’s scent and tracked it to a place I knew well. He was heading to mine and Anthea’s cave. I internally huffed , it felt like a lifetime ago we had our secret week of passion there. I jumped over the river and ran to the cave when I came to a skidding stop. Devon was sitting back in human form, his head in his hands and I heard the sound of sobbing.

It took me back a little bit. I had never seen Devon upset. I had definitely never seen him crying. I shifted back and slowly approached him not to startle him. My mood towards him recently was definitely making me feel like s**t, coming back to bite me in the a*s. I took a seat beside him and for the longest time none of us said anything. To say we had been friends all of these years , we hadn’t ever really had an emotional conversation ever. It was hard to know where to start. I knew he knew I was here. He was a strong wolf , he would have smelt me a mile off. When it was obvious he wasn’t going to start the conversation , I said something. Just something to get it going.

” Yianna’s a real b***h huh? ” I cringed at myself. Why would I f*****g say that? Devon’s sobs had quietened while we had been sitting there. And I actually heard him huff a laugh. Which made me feel a little better , like the ice was broken a little bit. ” s**t, Devon, I’m going to be rubbish at this , maybe I should have brought Anthea along “, I told him. He was wiping his eyes and when he was done he glanced up at me. His eyes were red-rimmed. He tried a smile at me and nodded his head. ” Maybe ” he agreed.

I eyed him as he looked back out and at the view. ” I’m sorry for how I have been towards you “, I told him. His shoulders shrugged ” I would have been the same. I know you’re just looking out for Anthea. It is just s**t that the only guy I will ever love , not in a love-love kind of way, but you know, comradely love way. It’s just harsh he doesn’t have trust in me. I’m meant to be your beta man. And until she’s dead I can’t fill that place for you ” he sounded pissed. ” I don’t want to be in that position. What if she is still in here and you tell me s**t and she’s listening and then something happens to you or Anthea because of me? I would never forgive myself “, he admitted.

” Is that why your keeping your distance from Violet too ? “I saw the pain etch over his face. ” I want to believe that it’s real , but I can’t not yet. I feel like me again, it was weird. Being in my own head but not being in control. I hated it , it made me feel weak ” he glanced at me and I nodded at him. I get that. ” Look, I can’t tell you everything , but I still trust you to have my back, man. Just like I have yours. And when this is all done, you’re still my beta. I would never choose anyone else to be by my side. I have to admit , dad’s beta turning on him threw me for a loop too. I saw him and dad together over the years, thick as thieves they’ve always been. But not like us , dad’s beta never threw himself in a ring with him knowing he’d get his a*s beat as a kid “. I smiled and nudged him.

He laughed and shook his head. ” You only just beat me , I take full credit for you being a bad a*s alpha. If not for me, you wouldn’t have been able to train , maybe only with your dad. No one else would get in the ring with you ” he joked. And it was nice to see my old friend was still there. ” Your also the one that got me into s**t with dad often enough “, I reminded him. The truth was me and Devon were just as mischievous as each other growing up. But when dad was telling us off , Devon always tried taking the blame. I wouldn’t let him and then we would get into an argument about who’s idea the latest stunt was , until dad would practically bang our heads together , kick both our asses, then walk off grumbling that one day we would be running the pack , and what a circus it would turn into with us in charge. But I used to see dad’s smile. He used to hide when he was done telling us off. Dad always loved Devon like his own.

I slung my arm over his shoulder. We didn’t really need to say much more. We were just sitting , having some quiet when a voice behind us startled both of us. None of us had heard or smelt or sensed anyone coming up behind us. ” Isn’t this sweet ” a female voice rang out. Turning , I looked over my shoulder and was on my feet in a flash. Devon is the same. Yianna stood leaning against a rock , her eyes went to both of our naked bodies and roamed them. For the first time ever I was uncomfortable naked. ” Yianna ” I snarl and Devon looks from me to her.

” That’s her ? ” he snaps. I glanced at him and nodded. How did he not know ? Her twin b***h was with the rest of them. She even looked at him a little weirdly. But she soon shakes it off and faints hurt. ” Devon, you wound me. How can you not recognise the woman you told you loved ? “the evil smirk that formed on her lips was sickening. ” Because I was still too out of it to look at your real face and I stayed as far away from those things you left behind as I could ” he snapped at her. He went to take a step forward and I shot my hand out to hold him back. Her face lit up ” Ahhh my reason for being here , where is my dear sister ? “she asked, looking at me this time.

” Like I would ever tell you ” I, practically spit at her. Her eyebrows raised and she sucked her lips to her teeth, taking an inhale of breath. ” Now , I will give you a pass for that disrespect future alpha. Because until now, you have not really seen the real me. But , I do not take kindly to men, especially talking down on me. So, watch your tongue” she raised her finger up and wagged it at me.

I felt my l*p curl at her but she only found it more amusing. ” It is not really my sister I want anyway. I will get her back at some point “. She lifted a shoulder and dropped it. From the last time I saw her she had changed her clothes to an elegant red robe that ran long behind her , with a low plunging neck line. She had her hair twisted up into an elegant bun. She was dressed like she was f*****g royalty. ” So, what do you want ? “I dared to ask her.

Her eyes shone with excitement as she looked at me. I had a feeling I knew where this was going. She seemed to float closer to us , and when I went to get into a fighting stance , I found I couldn’t move any of my limbs. No matter how hard I struggled. Only my head. I looked at Devon and saw the panic on his face and how still his body was too. Looks like she had done something to us.

“Anthea , she’s here. Yianna at our cave ” I mind linked my mate. I felt our connection was still open , so whatever she had done she hadn’t messed with that. Anthea answered back sounding panicked. ” I’m coming ” she said . But that was not what I wanted. Her coming here was dangerous. Before I could answer her though , Yianna was in my face. So close, I could feel her breath blow across my skin. ” I want him” she said and turned her eyes to Devon. ” And the magic ” she smiled. Just as she was about to reach out and grab Devon. Anthea , Shira , Willow and Violet all appeared , and I could sense wolves storming this way.

Yianna rolled her eyes before turning around. ” You are not invited to my little meeting ladies , I implore you to leave ” she said gracefully. Anthea looked at me and I linked her. ” She’s after Devon “I told her, and Antheas’ eyes snapped at Devon. ” Well, well, well , what has happened to you little Anthea ? “she sang. I couldn’t see her face anymore , but I could imagine she was eyeing her with interest.

Anthea kept her mouth shut and it only seemed to piss Yianna off more. ” I asked you a question ” she snapped at Anthea , and still she remained silent. I saw Yianna’s fist balled and her sides , just before she raised her hand and all the girls flew threw in the air , at the shock attack. Just as all the wolves flew into view. Yianna’s hand came up and she aimed it in their direction and all the wolves started whining as their heads bowed. You could tell they were trying to fight whatever was happening, but they were hopeless against it.

She turned back around to us and she was fuming now, her nose flared as she breathed heavily. ” I’ll find out from him. Once I put the spell back in place “, she looked at Devon. I said the first thing that came to mind. I played the game we played as kids with my dad. I took the heat off of him. ” He knows nothing, we have told him nothing incase you got back into his head. So what good will he be if you turn him again? We won’t trust him again until you are dead ” I rushed out. She looked back at me , then back at him. ” I’ll take you both then ” she stated simply. But before she could, her body started spasming , like she was being punched everywhere. Her face contorted in pain. Looking up Anthea her hand was up and words untranslatable came out of her mouth. Yianna twisted to look back at her and growled , the next thing she was gone.
