How is this possible? How can I be a Beta female? Just like that? I’m not even from this pack so how could the Alpha trust me with such a high position? I haven’t really done anything honorary, I was just doing my duty. I was indebted to them from the start so I just wanted to do something that would make me feel less like a leech but I truly don’t deserve this position.

Especially as I can’t even speak. How am I supposed to be of any use to the Alpha when I can’t even express myself? I know that the Alpha already has a Beta male but still, this position will require me to contribute to every decision of the Alpha and how can I do that? Just how am I supposed to go about this? No, I can’t accept this. I just can’t.

“Don’t you dare Evelyn. Do you really want to reject the position given to you by the Alpha himself? Do you know how huge of an insult that would be? Do you want to seem disrespectful and ungrateful to the Alpha despite everything they’ve done for us?” Tara questioned, putting me in a tight spot.

‘Of course not, I would never even think of doing something like that. It’s just that this position isn’t right for me.’ I tried to make her understand but Tara wasn’t willing to listen to me.

“No, I’ll have none of it. I’ve been letting you make all the decisions Evelyn but not this time. Do you know just how many people greatly desire this position you’ve just been given?” She questioned.

“That’s exactly the point, I’m not capable enough. I’ll practically be of no use to the Alpha because I can’t speak, I can’t make suggestions and I can’t be involved in arguments or conversations. I don’t just want to have the position when I won’t be able to contribute anything, it would be better if the Alpha would give it to someone more deserving. Someone who is capable.’ I told her.

“Evelyn, you’re doing it again. You’re letting your lack of speech define you. You said you would stop letting it affect you but look at what you’re doing? You’re letting it make you feel inferior. Everyone has weaknesses but it doesn’t stop them from dreaming and aiming for the top and it shouldn’t stop you.

You’re smart, intelligent and sensible so don’t let that one weakness overshadow all your strengths. You don’t have to say anything, that’s what your notebook and pen are for. Alpha Richard chose you for this position because he has seen your capabilities. He knows that you are up for it and only you can do this so do you really want to disappoint and humiliate him in front of the whole pack by refusing?” Tara questioned and I shook my head in the negative. When she puts it like that, how can I refuse?

Alpha Richard is very wise and only works for the good of the pack. If he chose me then he must have a reason. I’m not granted anymore time for self debate as I heard the crowd chorus.

“Yes Alpha, we accept your decision and gladly accept Evelyn as the new Beta female.” And that officially sealed my fate. If all the members of the pack agreed to it then who am I to disagree?

“Evelyn, do you accept this position and promise to do your best and ensure the prosperity of the pack?” He questioned and I nodded a yes.

“Do you promise to put your duties above your personal interests and always do what is beneficial to our pack?” He questioned and I nodded once more.

“Good. From now on, you’re my Beta and you will be treated as such.” He declared and a huge applause rented the air.

“Everyone please enjoy the rest of the party.” Alpha Richard said and that was my cue to leave.

I really don’t know how to feel about this. Will I really be up for it? As I went back into the crowd, I couldn’t help but wonder what my new position would entail.

“Congratulations dear, I’m really glad that Richard chose to make you the new Beta female. The position suits you well.” Ana said and I managed a small smile. How is it that everyone else is excited about this except me?

“Totally, I agree with Ana a hundred and one percent. At least I’ll also get to see you in official meetings.” Kayden said with a wink while I just looked away. I really don’t want to ruin their happiness but I can’t help but feel restless and unhappy about this.

“Why do you seem……..” Kayden was saying but Elsie cut him off as she approached me. “Congratulations my dear sister, I’m really so happy for you. Richard discussed it with me and I loved the idea, having to keep it from you was hard but it was necessary to make it a surprise. The look on your face was absolutely precious.” Elsie said with a laugh as she hugged me.

“Why don’t you look happy?” Elsie questioned and I shrugged. “Don’t tell me you’re doubting yourself again. Evelyn, believe me, you’re good for this position and it wasn’t a mistake that you were chosen. Don’t think of it as an act of gratitude, you were chosen because you were capable. OK, here’s an idea. Try it out for a few months and if you don’t like the position, we won’t pressure you anymore. I’ll personally make sure that Richard takes back the position and gives it to someone else.” Elsie said and I released the sigh I didn’t even know I’d been holding.

That’s a huge relief. Once the Alpha and Luna see that I’m not up for it, they’ll remove me from my position and everything will be normal again. A smile quickly lit my face.

“Now that’s what I love to see, you smile so beautifully. Don’t let anything ruin your mood, the day is still young so let’s celebrate.” Kayden said and my smile widened.

We did a lot of fun things which had me smiling or laughing and I almost forgot that I’d just been made a Beta except for when some of the pack members would congratulate me on my new position. Everything would just have to run smoothly from now on.
