Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 62
“Yes, I have. I don’t really know, all they told me when I asked was that it’s a special day in their lives so that’s why they celebrate it. They never specifically said what they were celebrating but that still doesn’t prove anything.” Kayden said and I felt tense. It must be hard finding out about such intimate information from a stranger. This must be exactly how he felt when he learnt about Richard and Margallo’s relationship from Margallo.
I’m learning about my soon to be mate’s family and this exactly isn’t the best of ways.
“You ought to be wiser than that, Kayden, my boy. You have great wisdom and potential, use them. Your mother took in soon after your parents became mates and she gave birth to a son which they named Thomas. He was born on the 14th of March but he died seven months later. Your parents were so sad and heartbroken, especially your mother. She refused to eat anything and constantly cried about her lost child. The whole pack was plunged into mourning due to the death of the baby prince.
Your father was more worried about your mother because if she continued on like that, it was obvious that she would fall ill. I would have shown you the vision of your brother’s death and your mother’s misery but it really is unnecessary and I feel it would be too heartbreaking for you to bear. Selene saw her plight and blessed her with another child, that was when Richard was born. He brought a lot of joy and happiness to the pack. About three years later, she had you but you had a mysterious sickness from birth.
You were born asleep. You were alive and breathing but you neither opened your eyes nor your mouth. You didn’t cry at all and you didn’t even move. The midwife first thought you were stillborn but she noticed you were alive and physically fine when she observed all your vitals and saw that they were in good condition, you were breathing and your heart was beating very normally.
They did everything to get you to open your eyes, move or at least cry but nothing they tried ever worked. You remained still, looking so peaceful as you slept. All of their efforts were in vain. The midwife announced that you wouldn’t make it after a week. You needed to eat in order to stay alive but you couldn’t. You couldn’t do anything. Luna Nevaeh was once again plunged into sorrow, she couldn’t bear the thought of losing another child. She threatened to end her life if she lost you and this caused Alpha Nicholas to panic.
He searched far and wide for a cure to your mysterious “sleeping” sickness and found none. He was about to give up when he finally came across the goddess’s book of which I am the guardian. He obtained the book and brought it over to your mother, hoping that it would finally be the cure to your illness.” Voithós said and the scene which had been paused suddenly continued.
“Nevaeh, I think I’ve found a solution to our problem.” Alpha Nicholas said and Luna Nevaeh raised her head up instantly, she had tears in her eyes and my heart instantly went out to her.
Seeing your child in pain or danger is the worst pain a mother can ever feel. I experienced it for the first time last night when Nevie suddenly had that fever. Speaking of which, haven’t we been gone for long already? I think they might be looking for me by now. I want to speak up but I stop myself, deciding to be a little more patient until Voithós finishes this vision. I should be patient since this really concerns Kayden and I need to show him my support.
“Really? Did you really find a way? Is our son going to be saved?” Luna Neveah questioned excitedly.
Just then, a little boy of about three years old walked into the room with a woman who seemed to be a maid.
“Mother, mother, will you stop crying now? When can I play with my brother? Doesn’t he like me? He’s always asleep each time I come to play with him.” Richard said in the cutest toddler voice I’d ever heard. He honestly looked so cute as a three year old though he is pretty handsome as a grown up.
“Don’t say that Richard, my darling. Your little brother loves you very much and I’m sure you love him very much as well. He’s still so small so he cannot play with you yet and he’s very tired as well and that’s why he needs to sleep.” Luna Nevaeh said and caressed Richard’s head. She brought him closer to her and kissed his cheek.
“You’re my good boy, aren’t you? Now go and play with Mirabel so mummy and daddy can rest, OK?” She requested.
“OK.” Richard said cheekily and turned back to the maid who I assumed to be Mirabel.
But as the maid was about to leave with him, he suddenly stopped and turned back to his parents.
“Mother, is it true that my little brother is very sick and that he’s going to die?” Richard asked innocently and that seemed to break a nerve in Luna Nevaeh as her expression quickly changed and I saw a burning desire in her eyes that I couldn’t pinpoint.
She got up from the chair with the baby still in her arms and walked over to little Richard. She bent down so as to be level with his height before doing the unexpected.
She roughly grabbed little Richard’s jaw with one hand whilst holding Kayden with the other and glared at him, which caused him to start crying instantly, seemingly from a mixture of pain and fright.
“Listen to me carefully, Richard. Don’t say that ever again. I don’t know who told you that but your brother is perfectly fine and he won’t die.” Luna Nevaeh said and paused, her eyes darting to Mirabel. She stared at the maid menacingly and the woman just kept her eyes glued to the floor, she was visibly shaking.
“Don’t do that again or I’ll be very mad at you, do you understand?” Luna Nevaeh questioned. “Yes mother.” Richard said in barely a squeak, his face was already red with tears and the pressure his mother was applying on it.
“That’s enough Nevaeh, you’re hurting our son.” Alpha Nicholas reprimanded and just like a flash, Luna Nevaeh seemed to realize her actions and let go of him. Richard fell on the floor but he kept crying. Luna Nevaeh looked at her crying child with motherly affection for a few seconds before hardening her expression and turning away.
“Take him away, Mirabel and put him to sleep or something. I already have a lot of things going on in my mind and I don’t want a nagging child to be one of them.” Luna Nevaeh said and Mirabel took Richard who was still crying on the floor and carried him in her arms.
“It’s OK, little prince. Please stop crying, why don’t we go get you some ice cream? You like ice cream, right?” She tried to cajole as she took him out of the room.
Alpha Nicholas grabbed Luna Nevaeh’s arm, instantly stealing her attention.
“I’ve had it with you Nevaeh. I’m not happy with the way you’ve been treating Richard ever since Kayden was born, Richard is still our son. Our first son for that matter so he still deserves your love and attention.” Alpha Nicholas confronted her.
“You were the same person that said I was spoiling him too much a year ago. And I quote; ‘Nevaeh, stop spoiling our son so much, he shouldn’t get everything he wants so easily. He should be made to face some difficulties or how else is he supposed to grow to become the powerful Alpha we want him to be?’ You know it’s funny how easily the words of men can change when the situation changes.” Luna Nevaeh said and removed her arm from his grip.
She sat back down on her seat, looking exhausted.
“Listen to me Nevaeh, you’re twisting my words now. I only said to stop pampering him so much, I didn’t say to be too hard on him. He’s only a child and doesn’t deserve such harsh treatment or he might grow to despise us, thinking that we don’t love him. Ever since Kayden was born, I’ve noticed that you’ve only been giving him all of your love despite the fact that we aren’t even sure that he’s going to survive.” Alpha Nicholas said the words clearly in a fit of rage and Luna Nevaeh began crying.
