Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 63
“Aargh………. Nevaeh………..” He drawled and brought her into his embrace. “This is our son you’re talking about, he is your very own flesh and b***d and you already consider him dead?” Luna Nevaeh lamented.
“You know I didn’t mean it like that, I love Kayden as much as you. By Selene’s grace, he’ll grow up to become one of the best and we’ll be proud of him. I just don’t want favoritism between our boys.” Alpha Nicholas said and patted Luna Nevaeh’s back, trying his best to comfort her.
If not for the sad situation, I would have been thrilled by how much they seem to love each other.
“I’m trying my best to keep it together but I don’t know if I’m strong enough. I’ve already lost one child, I promise you that I won’t be able to take it if I lose another.” Luna Nevaeh said as she wept into her mate’s chest.
“Shush, don’t talk like that. Nothing will happen to you or our child, I promise. I’ve found a solution.” Alpha Nicholas assured. “That’s what you said the last three times but still, our son has been unable to gaze upon the face of his mother. I’ve not heard his voice and I’ve been unable to feed him or play with him.” Luna Nevaeh said and gazed upon the sleeping child in her arms.
“I’m sure that this will actually be the permanent solution, do you trust me?” Alpha Nicholas questioned. Luna Nevaeh gazed into his eyes and nodded.
“Darren, bring it in.” Alpha Nicholas called and a guard walked in with the book.
“A book? What can a book do for us? I’m really in no mood for any jokes now.” Luna Nevaeh said but Alpha Nicholas ignored her and took the book from the guard by the name of Darren.
“You can leave now.” He ordered the guard who bowed and left. “Do you know what book this is?” He questioned and didn’t wait for a reply before continuing.
“This is the book of the goddess, the one which contains Selene’s blessings.” Alpha Nicholas revealed.
“The goddess’s book? But how? I thought it was lost decades ago.” Luna Nevaeh questioned. “That’s what everyone else thought as well but I’ve managed to obtain it. If the legends are true then that means, we can both get one wish, any wish at all if we open this book.” Alpha Nicholas said and Luna Nevaeh gasped.
“I sincerely hope that it’s true, this really is our last hope. Kayden doesn’t seem to have much time anymore.” She said and he put his hand on her shoulder reassuringly.
“I’m sure it’ll work but we have to try it first.” Alpha Nicholas said and Luna Nevaeh finally put the baby down in his cradle.
Alpha Nicholas dropped the book on the bedside table and they both placed their hand on it before exchanging glances, as if seeking permission to proceed or not.
They opened the book together and exactly the same thing which had happened to Kayden and I and Hendrick and Aurelia, happened to both of them.
Voithós appeared and informed them of the power that the book truly held. He also told them they could make one wish of any kind but as he tried to explain the consequences of the wish, Alpha Nicholas stopped him before he could finish.
“That’s enough, you said you can grant any wish we want, right?” The Alpha tried to clarify.
“Yes but you have to be careful whatever you wish for because there will be a price to pay. Everything you do has consequences.” Voithós tried to warn them but the Alpha couple were apparently too desperate and inpatient to listen.
“I don’t care what the price might be. I don’t care about any damned consequences, just please grant me my wish. I want my second son, Kayden Lakiel to be healed. I wish that he’ll come back to life and that he’ll be a very healthy and happy baby.” Luna Nevaeh wished with tears in her eyes.
“Your wish is my command but before I grant you your wish, I’ll give you one last chance to change your mind. Forgive me if this sounds rude but your son was born half dead, though he has a beating heart, every other part of his body appears to be dead and devoid of life and your wish requires me to grant him life, to make him whole. I’m letting you know now that no wish is free, there is a condition for everything.
This world only exists because there is a balance between everything; light and darkness, sickness and health, life and death. This balance must be maintained at all costs.
I can grant him life and good health for as long as he may live but someone else will have to pay the price, someone will have to die in his stead.” Voithós broke the news calmly and I almost wanted to hate him for how neutral his expressions were despite giving such dreadful news.
“What?! Someone has to die in order for our son to live?” Alpha Nicholas questioned, shocked.
“Yes, after all it is the rule of nature. And I can’t upset the natural balance of the world. While someone dies, a new person is born and thus, if you want your son to be granted a new life, someone has to die and it can only be someone close to you because only you must bear the impact.” Voithós explained.
“Then forget about it, you can keep your silly wish. We’ll find another way to help our child.” Alpha Nicholas refuted. “No! No, I accept. I accept the condition and the consequences.” Luna Nevaeh said and Alpha Nicholas glared at her.
“No you don’t, are you really going to let someone die just because you want your baby to live? How can you be so selfish? Do you really want Richard to die so Kayden can live?” Alpha Nicholas questioned.
“No, Richard and Kayden will live and they’ll grow up healthy and strong, I’ll make sure of it.” Luna Nevaeh assure before turning to Voithós.
“You said that someone needs to die in order for Kayden to live, correct? Then I’m willing to take his place and die in his stead. I’ll give my life so that my baby can grow up and live a long life.” Luna Nevaeh said and just then Kayden screamed, instantly startling me.
