Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 64
“No! This can’t be. None of this is real. It’s not true, it’s all false. This couldn’t have happened. I never had an older brother who died and I wasn’t born half dead. My mother never agreed to any half a*s deal. This is all nonsense, you’re trying to confuse me.” Kayden argued, he held his head as if trying to fight his thoughts and tears poured down his cheeks.
I immediately rushed to him and grabbed him in my arms trying to comfort him.
“I knew this would be very hard and painful for you to accept and that’s why I was very reluctant to show it to you but as the guardian, I must give you appropriate warning, the goddess demanded it. Everything I’m showing you is real and it really happened. Since it’s too devastating to watch, I’m going to tell you the rest of the story instead.
Your mother accepted the deal, she made a wish and granted you life and good health but she took the consequence upon herself. She willingly gave up her life so you could live and be happy. She was a very courageous woman and her love for you and your brother was immeasurable. You were restored back to life and you were active like a normal baby, even more agile but as you grew, Luna Nevaeh had to live up to her end of the bargain. She became terminally ill and died when you were six months old.” Voithós explained and Kayden suddenly reacted, nearly pushing me away.
“That’s a lie, that’s a very big lie. My mother died when I was six years old, I remember it like it was yesterday. This only proves that everything you’ve said about my family is a lie.” Kayden accused and Voithós sighed
“I know the news is rather shocking and shattering but don’t you think you’re overreacting. If only you’d let me explain, then everything would become so much clearer. Your mother died when you were six months old but because she chose to give up her life instead of being under the protection and insurance of the wish maker, her selfless act was rewarded with another wish but this one had no conditions tied to it.
And so for her final wish, she wished that I would imprint six years of memories with her in your brain so that when you grew, you would at least know what your mother was like. What she looked like, how she smiled and just how much she loved you. She wanted you to always remember her.” Voithós explained and Kayden staggered, his hand was glued to his chest, almost like his heart was aching and I could honestly almost feel his pain.
“My father loved my mother very much, he was devastated when she died. How could she have died when I was six months old and how could she have given up her life like that? My father loved her dearly or was that also an artificial memory implanted in my brain?” Kayden questioned, devastated and his voice was almost unrecognizable. He must be going through hell right now. To say I’m shocked is an understatement.
How could such huge things have happened in his family and he’s only getting to know about it now? I don’t think I would be able to take something like this. I won’t be able to take learning such an overwhelming secret about my family and dealing with the possibility that my whole childhood could have been a lie.
“Your father did love your mother dearly, that’s no lie or imagination. But she had already made the wish and there was nothing he could do about it. Once the wish is granted, it cannot be reversed under any circumstances even if the wish maker changes his or her mind and that’s why I strictly warn people to be careful what they wish for.
Once uttered and granted, it can’t be taken back. He had to watch his wife suffer through an unknown illness and he almost lost it when she died but he had to pull himself together for the both of you. He remembered that he had two small children to take care of and to raise properly. He had promised Luna Nevaeh on her deathbed that he would raise the both of you to be great men.
He was also the Alpha and he had the whole pack to guard and protect so he couldn’t afford to break down. The maid by the name of Mirabel was the one who raised you and Richard but the magic of the wish converted all your memories and made you think it was your mother who took care of you for those six years. It was all done to make sure that you would have a relatively normal childhood.” Voithós said and Kayden laughed, making me become more worried.
“A normal childhood, you said? How the hell is any of this normal? Your definition of normal is so messed up that it makes me sick. You just told me that all my memories are fake and that the early life I remember is a lie. You just told me that my mother died so young and it was all because of me. She gave up her life just to save me and I never knew about it?” Kayden questioned, almost hysterical.
“I’ve already shown you enough proof to make you believe that everything I tell you is only the truth and nothing but the truth of what happened in the past. I’m not usually this patient but I am because I understand how hard it must be for you to accept but it’s all part of your destiny so no matter how much anyone tried to hide it, you’d have to find out eventually. If you want, I could show everything that happened in the past but I figure it might be too unbearable for you to watch. I could also show you the truth of the memories you now hold. In the real fact, your mother was never present, the maid took care of you the whole time and when the time of the agreement elapsed, I had to cast a dream on you to make you think that she passed away because as you grew older, it was obvious you would figure out that something wasn’t right and then you’d find out the truth and I couldn’t let you find out on your own because it would be too complicated for you to understand. Both you and Richard’s memories are the same, so he also doesn’t know the truth of what actually happened. If you still doubt my words after everything, when you return, you can seek out the maid by the maid of Mirabel and find out the truth about everything from her.
I can show you and tell you the truth, I cannot force you to accept it, you can only do that of your own free will. Now, do you wish to witness everything for yourself? How you opened your eyes and began crying for the first time and how you became a normal baby because of your mother’s sacrifice? Do you wish to see how she suffered from your illness and how she died?” Voithós questioned and I couldn’t hold back anymore, tears began pouring down my cheeks.
It was almost as if Kayden had lost all his strength and he nearly collapsed, I grabbed him in a hug and he broke into tears.
I couldn’t take it, it almost felt like my heart was being ripped to shreds having to see him like this. This was the first time he had ever displayed his weaknesses, this is the first time I’ve ever seen him cry. He’s usually the cheerful one and no matter how gloomy our situation had always been, he was always the one to cheer all of us and warm all our spirits, he was always the sanguine. So seeing him so hurt, heartbroken and gullible like this is hurting me more than I can say.
“Stop! Just please stop it already? Don’t you even have any pity at all? Can’t you see how much your words are hurting him? You’re speaking like you’re reading a simple fairytale but you’re not, you’re talking about someone’s life, his childhood, his family. How can you say things like that? Don’t you understand how he must be feeling having to hear this?” I questioned, utterly enraged.
Opening that damned book was a mistake and I see it now.
Voithós drew an exaggerated sigh before replying. “I may not be able to understand what he might be feeling because I am incapable of human emotions but I’ve also had my own share of despair and I know how overwhelming it can be but this is necessary. He’s not a child anymore, he has to know the truth and he has to learn from it. All I’m showing you is not to cause you pain but to make you aware of how things work. Now if you’re done sulking in self pity, do you wish to see how it happened or you’d rather take my word for it?” Voithós questioned sharply and I glared at him.
“I think we’ve seen enough tragedies in one day. I’ve made my decision, we……..” I began but Kayden suddenly lifted his head from my shoulder and cut me off.
“No…….. I… I want to see how it all happened.” Kayden said and I placed my hand on his shoulder.
“Kayden, no. I can’t let you hurt yourself like this. You don’t have to do this. We can just go back and pretend like none of this happened, I can just reject the wish and we can live our normal lives.” I tried to cajole.
“No, I wanna see it. I want to confirm something. Nothing is the same, nothing is going to remain the same after this.” Kayden said and I found myself speechless.
“Show it to me, I want to see everything.” Kayden said to Voithós and the scene began replaying just like a movie.
