My teeth are chattering in fear as the situation unfolds before me. “Open this door right now or we’ll have to break it down.” I heard Sir Carter threaten from the other side of the door. “So you’re a stowaway, huh?” The vampire in front of me questioned before caressing my face softly. “Don’t touch me.”I snapped and slapped his hand off before turning my face away in humiliation. Doesn’t he have any decency? He smirked and in the blink of an eye, he left from where I stood and was by a wardrobe. He grabbed a robe and put it on and though the fact that he wasn’t naked anymore was relieving, it was actually the least of my problems.

“Are you just going to leave me here and in the middle of our fun?” The girl on the bed finally spoke as she sat up, covering herself with the covers. From her glowing pale skin, I could tell she was also a vampire. I saw the bite mark on her neck, his fangs had left two bloodied holes on her neck and the sight of it almost made me want to throw up. It was shocking though, I had absolutely no idea that vampires could drink from other vampires.

“You don’t have to get so possessive, Scarlet, you know very well what you mean to me.” He said sharply and his tone gave me shivers. What is he gonna do to me? More importantly, how do I get out of this?

He finished wearing his robe quickly and wiped his lips clean before he walked up to me once more. “Since you’re being stubborn and you’ve refused to cooperate willingly, I’ll just have to bend you to my will the hard way.” I heard Sir Carter say from the other side of the door and I knew he was going to break open the door any second now. I closed my eyes knowing it was probably the end. I could feel the hands of the vampire on me, my brain screamed at me to fight back but I couldn’t bring myself to. I’m physically and mentally exhausted so what’s the use? I’m going to die anyway so I might as well just give up now.

I felt the hands caress my shoulders a bit before………….moving me to the side?

I opened my eyes quickly because I had not expected the action but the next string of events proved to be the most shocking of all. Just as Sir Carter was just about to kick the door open, this strange vampire unbolted the door and opened it, almost causing Sir Carter to tumble into the room. It would have been funny if my heart wasn’t beating so fast. Sir Carter quickly regained his balance and gazed into the room with a poker face. Immediately his gaze landed on me, he glared at me so hard that I would have dropped dead if looks could kill.

The vampire in the robe grabbed a hold of my hand and brought me behind him protectively. Immediately my body came in contact with his back, his sweet lavender scent infiltrated my nostrils and I flushed slightly at remembering that he wasn’t wearing anything underneath the robe. “Prince Virgil.” Sir Cassius addressed with a slight bow while the other guards bowed as well. Wait………… What?! Prince? This man is a prince? I had no idea that King Cassius had a son. Why would Voithos leave out such important information? But if King Cassius really has a son that’s a full grown man, wouldn’t it be sort of wrong for him to marry Lucia? Considering that her soon to be stepson is probably older than her. This is such a mess.

“I remember saying that I didn’t want to be disturbed so what’s with all the ruckus? And why exactly are you disturbing my peace and trying to break my door down even despite my warning?” The vampire who I had just come to know as Prince Virgil spoke confidently with a stern look on his face. That teasing and playful smirk was gone, quickly replaced by nothing but contempt. The other vampires except Sir Carter recoiled backwards, seemingly in fear but Sir Carter stood his ground, staring at Prince Virgil with something between disgust and disdain. It was easy to guess that these two weren’t the best of friends but something puzzled me though. If this man protecting me is really a prince, then isn’t Sir Carter supposed to show him more respect? Especially since Sir Carter seemed to be very loyal to the king.

Another disturbing question is, why on Earth is Prince Virgil protecting me? I’ve come to realize that vampires only do things for their own personal gain so I couldn’t help but wonder what Prince Virgil intended to do with me.

“Prince Virgil please step aside, the woman you’re hiding behind you is a human.” Sir Carter said but Prince Virgil only rolled his eyes. “I’m already aware of that.” Prince Virgil replied nonchalantly. “Then it would be beneficial if you also know that she is an escapee. His Majesty has given her to me but she ran off and believe me, I intend to teach her some manners as soon as we are behind closed doors. It would be good of you if you’d simply let me quietly take what belongs to me and save both of our precious time.” Sir Carter said and my stomach twisted uncomfortably. This man is starting to seem more brutal than I had imagined, I really can’t help but notice that he seems to have a staunch dislike for the prince and for some reason, he isn’t even afraid to show it.

Prince Virgil broke into a raucous laughter at Sir Carter’s reply. It was long and hearty and I’m sure that it made the other vampire feel like a fool because he kept staring daggers at Prince Virgil and I. Deep within, I began praying that Prince Virgil would not give me back to Sir Carter or rather, that he would not let the mean man take me back. I don’t care what Prince Virgil has in store for me but something in my gut tells me that it won’t be nearly as terrible as what Sir Carter has planned out the minute he leaves this room with me.

Prince Virgil gave a small laugh. “You seem to have forgotten your place Sir Carter so let me remind you. You’re nothing but a subject to the royal family, you’re no more than a servant and you will give me the respect I deserve whether you like it or not.” Prince Virgil said and Sir Carter feigned a shocked expression. Geez, who knew vampires were so dramatic but come to think of it, this is good because it’s stalling the inevitable and if Selene is kind enough, I’ll be able to get out of this mess unharmed.

“And who’s going to make me?” Sir Carter fired back and Prince Virgil bared his fangs, hissing at Sir Carter who also did the same. “Enough!” We all heard a majestic voice say and everyone instantly went silent.

They parted like the sea and I instantly saw the handsome face which I’m quickly beginning to dread. King Cassius walked to where Prince Virgil stood with a stone expression. “Your Majesty.” They all greeted and bowed and I instinctively bowed as well. I’m already in enough trouble as it is.

“What the hell is going on here and why the hell are you screaming at each other like children?” He questioned and suddenly, his eyes landed on me, holding me in a tight gaze. I tightened my fist and looked down. “And what is she still doing here? Would someone care to explain what is going on here? Or do I have to force it out of you?” King Cassius threatened, his tone lethal.

“Your Majesty, I was just about carrying out your orders when the prince interfered. This foolish girl ran into the prince’s room and he is protecting her for some reason and has refused to give her back. Even when I told him it was your order to take care of her.” Sir Carter explained and my dislike of him went up a notch.

King Cassius instantly turned to the prince’s direction, seemingly waiting for an explanation. “Brother, I think it’s obvious enough that he’s painting the truth.” Prince Virgil began calmly. Hold up, brother? Well this actually makes a lot more sense and is partially a relief but still, why didn’t Voithós tell me that the king has a brother? “You of all people should know just how cruel Carter can be, I mean look at the girl, she seems scared half to death. She ran to me for help and I couldn’t just send her away into the belly of a shark.” Prince Virgil explained while I just kept hoping that it would all turn out in my favor. “That is no excuse, the life of one little human should mean nothing to you, you already have so many pretty little dolls to play with, many of whom are worth your attention.” King Cassius began, referring to the girl who was still sitting on the bed, wrapped in a blanket.

“It’s not in your place to go around playing hero for worthless little ragdolls. There is no excuse for defying my order but I will only let you off with a warning this time. I had given her life to Carter to do whatever he pleases and you should not have got into an argument with him. You’re a prince and I expect you to act like one.” King Cassius said and Prince Virgil looked down in defeat. My heart sank down in despair. This can’t be good for me.
