Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 16
What?
“What? No, no, Anaya… I’m perfectly fine.” The look of horror on Lacy’s face was just as palpable as it was hilarious, because the human girl did not know why, but she kind of had an entire picture painted in her mind of how her encounter with the good doctor would go down… and it all went down to him finding out about her first service as s*x slave to the Alpha King, which in not so PG terms involved him taking a look at her smarting bum.
She couldn’t have that!
I mean, granted… it was very comfortable to be around him, but that did not have to mean she was about to go rushing to him to expose some of her deepest, darkest secrets, did it? “I’m fine,” She repeated, her mind completely set. She was only stepping in the good doctor’s office or whatever he called only if hell froze over.
****
So that was how Lacy found herself standing before Xavier Mendoza.
Apparently, hell did have its short episodes of freezing over after all.
An accomplished Anaya sat outside in the front waiting for her, probably still smiling like a f*****g Cheshire cat… and honestly speaking, if it had not been that Lacy was human and the princess could kill her with a single blow, she would have knocked that stupidly annoying smile right off her face. Anaya had not even bothered to come in with her, choosing to just sit outside and wait for her instead, and Lacy wondered why, for she may not have known the Lyken princess for that long, but she did know, based on the little she had observed that the girl was inquisitive— A bit too much for her own good sometimes if Lacy was being honest. So why had she left her to come see the good doctor all by herself?
Maybe she wanted to give you space, especially since you had been so uncomfortable about coming here?
That seemed like a likely explanation.
“It’s really nothing, just severe body pain, Xavier,” Caused by your hot and then cold Alpha King. Lacy tried to brush it off, “Don’t you have some, I dunno, Tylenol, or Ibuprofen or something?”
Xavier chuckled at her discomfort and impatience, “Easy, Lacy… We still have to get to the root of it though, so tell me… have you been engaged in any strenuous activity recently?”
“Uhm, yeah… I—I have been trying out some HIIT exercises, since being in that room all alone can be outrageously boring sometimes,” Lacy lied through her teeth. Really Lacy, HIIT? That’s the best you could come up with? Lacy tried to shut down her annoying subconscious, but nothing she did was working. I can see how being bent and spanked can look like HIIT though, I mean they both get your b***d pumping, amirite?
Oh, god.
“I see.” The Clan healer did not look like he was buying anything she had said one bit, but he humored her anyway. “Okay, so I’ll give you some painkillers, but then you’ll need to be on bed rest.” He advised as they stood. It was his very first consultation that had gone that way— where both he and his patient had stood, despite there being chairs. Xavier had been really surprised to see the girl being ushered in by one of the nurses completely unattended, but what had surprised him even more was the longing glance she had taken at the seat he had offered her right before she turned it down. He had known instantly then that something was wrong with her, but thankfully, all that had been resolved now. “I could walk you to your chambers if you’d like,” He suggested, tossing the stethoscope he had in his hands on his desk. Lacy took advantage of his absentmindedness to take a look at the office. It was huge… clean as hell too with an almost blinding blend of white, gray and black, and then there was that annoying smell of antiseptic that seemed to be everywhere, even in the lounge. Lacy definitely did not miss that.
Lucius had never let her practice when she had been in Blue Valley, because according to him, a Luna did not slave herself for or to anyone, and the nursing job was quite a menial one.
That alone should have been enough of a red flag for her, but no… she had been a terrible fool in love. And, she had not known a single thing about werewolf culture, so she had begrudgingly trusted his judgement.
“That won’t be necessary, Xavier… but thanks.” Lacy tried to decline the generous offer. “Princess Anaya brought me here, so she can take me back.”
“Oh really?” The kind doctor asked, pleasantly surprised, “Let’s go then so I say a quick hi to her.” The two passed by a dispensary to take her medicines, and then headed out to the lounge. Lacy saw the seven guards first before her gaze finally landed on Anaya reading some magazine on health, slouched so terribly in a couch that had she been in the olden days, her governess would have fainted at the sight. That cheeky smirk was still on the Princess’s face when she saw her friend until she noticed the handsome man walking beside her, and then it suddenly disappeared. “Lacy!” The suddenly fidgety she-Lyken stood up, her green eyes darting from her friend to the handsome hunk.
“Hello Naya,” Xavier smirked, “It’s been so long since I saw you that you’d think we live on opposite sides of the globe.”
“H—hey Xavier, y—yeah, right? I—I could say the same thing about you too, you’re like on a whole other planet!” Anaya had the decency to blush at her sudden word vomit, her eyes cast downwards while she twiddled her thumbs in what was apparently nervousness. What in the f**k was happening?
Was Anaya… shy?
Lacy had just known the girl for about a week, but never had she seen her so flustered… not even when they had been discussing erotic books they had read that other time. The princess had been incredibly graphic for someone who hadn’t even had her first k**s yet, but put her before a charmingly handsome man, and she was a bloody, stuttering mess.
“Alright, I’ll see y’all later.” Lacy heard the doctor say, breaking her chain of thoughts, “Lacy, complete bedrest for you, yeah? And make sure you take those pills.” He shot them both one last smile, and then left. Apparently, that was all it took to snap Anaya out of her dreamy stupor. “Come on Lacy, let’s get you back indoors,” She held unto her friend, steering her out and towards her room, “It seems you won’t get to have your daily walk today… but not to worry, I’ll talk to Reed and let you get twice your hours tomorrow. Can you imagine? Four long hours together tomorrow, I guess everything happens for a reason after all.”
Lacy was patient, right until the door to her prison closed shut and then she turned to her friend, her eyes narrowing in accusation and suspicion. “You like him.” It wasn’t a question… this was a straight out statement that took Anaya completely by surprise, reducing her to that sputtering mess she had been when she set her eyes on Xavier earlier, “W—what? No—no I don’t!”
Lacy shot her a pointed glare, “Okay, okay… fine, fine. I just might have a teeny crush on him?”
“That did not look like a teeny crush to me, Anaya.”
“Jeez, Lacy… can’t a girl keep a few secrets to herself?” Anaya rolled her eyes, tossing her bone straight vermillion colored hair. “Fine, I may be in love with him—”
“Oh, Anaya…” Lacy squealed in delight, wrapping her arms around her friend, “This is good news! At least I know for sure that you’ve set your sights on a good man.”
“And how do you know that?” Anaya asked suspiciously.
Oh s**t.
There was no way Lacy could tell the young princess about the incident that had led to her and Xavier meeting each other, since Reed had made it explicitly clear that she not tell the she-Lyken anything about them. And so Lacy stuttered. “Uhm… let’s just say that I’m quite a good judge of character.” She dragged herself over to her bed and wearily fell on it, stomach first so she did not worsen the ache on her bum. The way it was smarting, she was not going to be surprised at all if the Alpha King’s handprints were engraved on her bum should she go and look, but thankfully, her little display of pain had been enough to get her friend off the topic. “What at all did you do to be in this much pain, Lacy?” The Lyken princess mused out loud.
Girl, you do not want to know.
But Lacy had to say something else. Something that would certainly not trace back to the Lyken princess’s handsome hunk of a brother, and so she went with what she had started in the doctor’s office, “Yeah, I was bored and decided to try some HIIT exercises.” She let out a little g***n for emphasis, “This is apparently what I get for trying to become a better version of myself.”
How have you gotten so good at lying Lacy?
Her subconscious chuckled in amusement, but that was barely what Lacy’s mind was on since her friend was consoling her as best as she could. “Thanks Anaya… but moving away from me and back to you… honestly speaking, I think Xavier is a good catch for you,” Anaya interrupted her with a g***n, “You think I don’t know that, Lacy? He practically thinks I’m nonexistent as a woman, and honestly speaking, I don’t think I’ll ever be anything to him other than Reed’s baby sister,”
“Well,” Lacy muttered confidently, shifting onto her side so she could better face her friend, “I think we should change that.”
