Lacy couldn’t remember the last time she felt this free.

Not when she had been in the human world, spending every waking time she had working to make ends meet despite having insanely rich parents just so she could prove a point.

And not even when she had been in the Blue Wolf Valley Pack, married to a powerful Alpha with the whole world—or what she had thought was the whole world— at her feet.

No.

Instead, the one time she truly felt free was this very moment, grinding against this strange Lyken who had just appeared out of nowhere and just plastered his front to her generous a*s.

The funny thing was that the feeling of freedom had nothing to do with him even.

Lacy liked to think that it was all because of the alcohol actively coursing through her bloodstream, but even she knew better, that it had nothing to do with that.

When it all came down to it, there was just something eye-opening about being confined and losing everything but your very basic rights that made one more appreciative when they were finally restored, and that was basically what was causing all that giddiness. Though Lacy had to admit that the alcohol made the appreciation a hundred times better.

Lacy felt a hand reach for her boob and squeeze, and she pulled back to give the okay looking man she had been grinding a pointed glare. “Really?” She knew he couldn’t hear her over the loud music, but if his shamefaced look was anything to go by, he had clearly read her lips.

What was it about men and taking liberties towards women when they hadn’t been awarded said liberties yet?

“I’m sorry, I didn’t—” But anything he was going to say was cut off by the powerful blow that came out of nowhere, breaking his nose bone instantly, right before he fell to the ground, crying out in pain.

“Stay away from her.”

The voice was hard and deep and surprisingly quiet, but even Lacy in her drunken state had heard him, The Alpha King, standing there in jet black clothes looking like Retribution and Vengeance personified. And there was just something about the menacing edge in his tone that had Lacy curious and confused and scared all at once.

What was he doing here?

It had been so long since Lacy saw this side of him—the violent, cruel, twisted side— that she had almost forgotten it existed for a hot second.

It freaked her out, causing her to back away from him in fear to seek solace in the arms of the man he had just punched for her sake.

“Oh my God, are you okay?” She got right into action, her nurse mode kicking in as she knelt before him, helping him up to his feet. “Come with me, Lacy… we need to talk.” She heard the Alpha King say even through her ministrations.

Only she paid him no mind, her attention still very much on the wounded guy. “You need to let me take a look at that, I’m a registered nurse.”

But the male Lyken was not listening to her, his outraged gaze was fixed on his Alpha instead, and he appeared seemingly too drunk on whatever it was that made the Lykens drunk, and on false bravado to think his next line of action through. “I don’t care if you’re some stupid Alpha King, you’ll pay for what you’ve done to my nose!” He swore violently, charging towards Reed who had all along been staring at him, a mixture of boredom and excitement shining ever so bright in his blue eyes.

Lacy blocked the suicidal Lyken’s path, her green eyes filled with worry and disbelief, her entire demeanor frantic, “Are you insane? You’re hurt, you need urgent medical care.”

“Get out of my way, human.” This came with a warning growl, one that was supposed to freak her out. Lacy heard her supposed mate let out a warning growl of his own, and she briefly wondered if it was at her or at the stubborn man she was facing.

In that moment, Lacy was so muddled that it didn’t even cross her mind that the guy she had literally been dancing with a few minutes ago was supposed to have healed by now, especially if he was a Lyken creature like she had assumed.

“I’m afraid I can’t get out of your way.” She insisted worriedly as she stared at his bleeding nose, “We need to find something to use as compress—” Her words caught in her throat as a loud woosh slipped past her lips and she went tumbling to the ground, having been apparently pushed by the same person she had been trying to help.

Lacy did not know how it happened.

It had all been fuzzy as hell in the drunken state she was in, but all she had heard was a loud roar, and then the Alpha King was standing before the other man, his chest heaving as b***d dripped from his right hand which seemed to have shifted into claws.

Shocked, Lacy turned to look at the man, her heart stopping in horror even as a loud gasp escaped her lips, for there he stood, his guts pouring out of a large gash on his stomach, b***d drooling from his mouth. Like he was in some emotionally captivating movie of sorts, he slowly dropped to his knees and then fell to the ground in a large thump. Dead.

Lacy let out a b***d curdling scream.

The sound of it bringing everyone’s attention to them now, even the loud music stopping suddenly as Anaya and her five friends appeared at the scene, equal looks of horror on their faces.

There was a sudden chill in the air, and then to Lacy’s surprise, everyone in the club—the Lyken Princess included—was bowing to Reed as he still stood there, his eyes now a glowing red, when what they really needed to do was call him out for murder. “You alone are Alpha Supreme.” They all chorused like they were in some cult, or even worse, possessed.

“Come with me, human.”

Lacy didn’t even flick a glance in the Alpha King’s direction, her eyes still stuck on the dead man as she murmured the words, “You killed him.”

She couldn’t believe that just a few minutes ago, the man had been so full of life, having fun, and then now he just lay there, motionless.

“I said come with me, human.”

“No.”

Lacy’s defiance set a chorus of loud gasps across the club, but she didn’t even care. “I’m not going any where with you. Murderer!”

“Lacy,” Anaya was by her side in a minute, helping her to her feet, “Reed isn’t himself, just do as he says, please.”

The human shot her an incredulous look unable to believe her ears, “Are we just going to ignore the fact that he killed someone before our eyes?” At that point she was almost hysterical, but the princess could only look at her with pleading eyes, “Lacy please.” She begged. “If you won’t do it for him, do it for me. He may have his frightening moments, but I’ve never seen my brother this riled up when Ace hasn’t completely taken over. I just don’t know how to explain it to you, but I think that something is wrong. I just don’t know what it is yet, but you bet I’ll find out. Just do it, Lacy. Do this one thing for me.” She urged in a whisper.

“I’m sorry Anaya, but I can’t.” The human girl replied, shaking her head in the negative, her eyes shining with tears that looked like they’d be shed any minute, her chin set in determination. “I can’t just ignore the fact that someone is lying right before us… dead?” She whispered, “I’m not leaving with this monster.”

“ALRIGHT, ENOUGH!”

Before she knew it, the human girl was being flung across his broad shoulders like a sack of potatoes and being led towards the entrance.

She screamed and shrieked and cursed and begged, but the Alpha King wouldn’t let her down, and no one seemed to be coming to her aid either.

It was in that moment that it hit Lacy once again.

That she may have truly f****d up once more.

But this time was different.

This time she wasn’t going to take things lying down. This time,

She was going to fight back.
