“You know what I realised, Reed?” Ace asked in the Alpha King’s head, a hint of amusement in his deep animalistic voice. Reed didn’t say a word, but he knew his Lyken half was going to continue either way. “I don’t have to lift a paw after all.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Well, I realised that I do not have to get rid of the human after all. You’re going to do that on your own with your own actions while I sit back and observe.” The beast finished in satisfaction, something that sounded close to a chuckle mixed with a snarl slipping past its freaky snout.

Reed scowled in annoyance, willing himself not to be affected by Ace’s rather vicious ribbing. To be honest, it was getting more and more difficult, and only because it was true.

Everything Ace was saying was the absolute truth.

He had ruined things with the little human girl, and this time, even he wasn’t sure that it was reparable. Granted, she had still been wary of him, but she had let her guard down enough for them to have okay enough conversations—when the so called mateship bond wasn’t causing them to stick their tongues down each other’s throat, that is.

And now he had ruined it.

He had brought her back to her room a few hours back, but had actually resorted to locking her in because she had almost been at the point of complete hysteria and he had been afraid that he would hurt her, or that she would hurt herself, but the irony of the whole situation wasn’t lost on him.

It wasn’t hard to see that he had brought her back to their relationship of old,

The one where he was her captor, and she was his prisoner.

It was happening all over again, and while Reed knew that that wasn’t exactly what was going on, he wasn’t sure that the human would see it in the same light, especially in the frame of mind she was in.

To think that he had gone to search for her so they could end their attraction to each other once and for all.

“Are you going to keep her locked up for good? Because I really wouldn’t object to that.” Ace quipped with glee.

At that point, Reed had had enough, he shut off the communication bond, sighing in relief when the peace and quiet finally hit him like the calm after a storm.

He really needed to go and see her though.

Two hours did seem like an okay enough time for one to calm down, right?

Perhaps for a lyken.

He had no idea how long it took humans to recover from stuff like these, but sitting down and waiting was not going to give him the answers he needed. Standing up from his huge chair, he headed out to go and check on her.

*****

Lacy sat at the exact spot she had been left at almost two hours ago.

The almost possessed Alpha King had been surprisingly patient with her despite ripping a man’s guts out just some moments ago, and he had barely flinched when she had thrashed and hit him. He had instead gently place her on the ground and stepped out without a single word.

And then she had heard the door lock.

To be honest, it hadn’t even surprised her. He had killed someone after all right before her eyes, what couldn’t he do?

Don’t get her wrong, Lacy had always known him to be ruthless, hell, she had witnessed it first hand when she had first arrived in the B***d Moon Clan, but then everyone was going off about how she had made him soft and all of that bullshit (Mostly Ace and Xavier) that it had someway somehow gotten to her head.

And now this had happened.

Lacy wasn’t sure she could just forget about it.

The sound of the key turning in the lock after a long knock snapped her from her thoughts, sending her cowering back in fear.

The door flung open, and then there the Alpha King stood, still in the clothes from before, this time a look that Lacy identified as guilt on his face.

“I’m sorry.” He spoke.

For the first time since it all happened, Lacy really took a look at him, a dry scoff escaping past her lips, “Sorry for what exactly, Your Eminence?” Her green eyes looked dead as she watched him, “Sorry that you killed a man or sorry that I had to witness it happen?”

The Lyken King shut his eyes painfully, “I’m really sorry you had to see that, Lacy. I really didn’t mean to flip off like that, trust me, I have no idea how it happened.”

She ignored him.

He swallowed deeply, his hands shaking slightly as he began to appear distressed and slightly frantic, “The first thing I saw is you dancing with him, and then I was mad, but…but then he touched you without your permission and then all of a sudden I was seeing my father all over again.” He whispered, his eyes taking on an angry, bitter, painful, faraway look.

“I was seeing him in Anaya’s room, stroking his c**k while she slept, blissfully unaware of the evil that was going on right before her.”

Lacy’s hand flew to her mouth in horror, the implication of what he had just said sinking in.

The Alpha King’s gaze met hers at her soft gasp, his eyes shining with unshed tears, “I killed him, Lacy.” He confessed, “I killed my own father… slowly poisoned him to death so no one would realise, and you want to know the funny thing?” Gone was the distress, there was complete satisfaction in his eyes this time… bone chilling and overly manic, “I didn’t even care that people suspected foul play anyway. I would do it all over again if I have to just so I can ensure that my little sister is the pure happy go lucky girl that she is. I have no regrets about it too, or perhaps I do… one. That I didn’t make his death an extremely painful one, gods know that the old bastard deserved no mercy.”

“Oh, Reed.” Lacy stood up, not really sure what else to do or say to that. His explanation didn’t really justify his actions, but even she could see where he was coming from.

It took her a while to think of something to say, “But the man you killed was not your father. He was actually on the verge of apologizing,”

“I know that.” He accepted, “And I know also that I might have over reacted—f**k, I overreacted, but here’s the thing Lacy, I believe you.” He took a step forward, noting with a bit of relief that she didn’t step back. “I believe that there is something between us that transcends the normal… that there is this pull between us, this—this attraction that is far from ordinary. Because why else would I be feeling all of these things that I feel? Why would I be craving your presence? Why would your smile be like drinking in sunshine? Why would your scent fill me with warmth and contentment, and why would the sight of you distressed cancel all of my ability to see and listen to reason?”

Lacy didn’t have an answer to that, but his honesty was seriously doing something to her heart.

“He’s not dead, Lacy.” He admitted finally.

“Wait, what?”

“But—but how?” She sputtered, unable to believe her ears, because she could have sworn that he had died right before her eyes.

“Yes.” He confirmed. “We’re immune to silver, but at insane quantities, it can weaken us. Your guy had had more than an insane amount of the element, but he was taken to the hospital, and once his b***d was pumped clean, his healing process resumed its short hiatus.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah. Look Lacy… I—I lied.” The Alpha King admitted shamefacedly stepping back a bit to clear his head. “I lied when I said I had no idea how the Rejection Process is done. I do.”

This time, the human girl just had to sit down a little bit to clear her head. The bombshells were becoming a tad much to handle. “I… I don’t understand, why would you lie about that when you’ve been wanting nothing more than to be rid of it and be rid of me in the process?”

“I—” Reed started, but then he trailed off.

He had wanted to come clean and tell her everything, but what was the point?

He was going to let her go, why did he have to make her completely hate him in the process?

Was he despicable for wanting her to see him in a positive light despite being anything but? Perhaps. And yet he still couldn’t bring himself to tell her the truth.

“I can’t really tell you,” He decided to go with in the end, “Just know that I’ve done some thinking now and decided that I’m not really being fair to you.” He took a step forward and knelt before her, reaching for her hand, “Look, Lacy… I really want to apologise for everything I’ve put you through since you stumbled here. You deserved none of it, and I am very sorry that I couldn’t and cannot give you what was actually meant to be, but there’s just too much to do if I actually decide to go ahead and keep you to myself like I want to mate bond or not—I don’t even care anymore—and I honestly don’t want to put you in the middle of all of that. You have so much ahead of you, and I believe you’re actually going to thank me for letting you go one day.” Unable to help himself, he reached out to softly caress her cheek and Lacy leaned into it, her subconscious calling her out for being weak and pathetic, but she ignored it. She told herself that she wanted to feel him for the last time because she knew what was coming, and his next words actually proved her right.

“I will reject you Lacy, and then after that, you can go back to your human family and I will not try to stop you.”
