“You’re not going, Lacy… I’m going alone.”

Wait what?

“I am not letting you anywhere near those f*****g council members, Lacy,” Reed fumed, his anger very much evident, all the veins on his face and neck standing out as he struggled to rein Ace in. “They’re corrupt, they’re power hungry, they’re f*****g idiots, and I’ll be damned before I let you go near these bunch of despicable people, Lace… just drop it already.”

But the Dark Witch couldn’t just drop it.

She didn’t care that this was already driving a rift between their quite fresh relationship, she didn’t care that almost every other Lyken standing before her supported her mate, she wanted to go to that darned meeting.

“We’re stronger together, Reed…” She explained calmly, “Can’t you see that fighting me on this is exactly what they want? That they want us to be at loggerheads with each other?”

But the Alpha King scoffed, “This isn’t something that should even be up for debate, Lacy… they know me, I have defied their orders time and time again, trust me, this isn’t going to come as a surprise to them.”

“And that is exactly what they want, Reed… so they can come flocking into Lyken territory, guns ablaze, and I can’t believe that you’d give them that.”

“For you, I’d fight them over and over again, Lacy… you want to know why? Because you’re worth it.” He swore, closing the distance between them,

“You’re worth much more than that… and I don’t want them getting into your head and making you feel different about yourself and about us, because that is what they’re f*****g good at, Lacy. We all know this summoning concerns Lucius. Let me handle it how best I think I should.”

“And how exactly is that, Reed?” She pressed.

“Initially, I was going to say f**k them, that both of us will boycott the meeting, but the more I think about it, I realise that I need to be there, at the very least to hear what they have to say so I know how we’re going to deal with this.”

“So, you will go alone?”

“So, I will go alone.” He affirmed.

Lacy sighed deeply, her mind casting back to the anger with which her mate had left her bedroom to go to the receiving room.

She had chased after him, after she had managed to find some clothes and put them on that is, but by the time she had made it to the receiving room, the two agents were just leaving, seemingly scared beyond their senses.

So now here she was.

But it wasn’t hard to guess what he had told them to do with their very special invitation.

It didn’t matter though, Lacy needed to get to that meeting.

“I want nothing more than to tell you I’m okay with this plan of yours, but I’m not… Anaya, tell him, tell him how crazy and too drastic it all sounds,”

But the Lyken princess only shot her a helpless look, “I kind of agree with Reed on this one, Lacy,” She shot her friend an apologetic look, “This would certainly concern your ex-husband, and—”

Oh goddess, she was useless.

“Reed, Reed… look at me,” She closed the distance between them frantically, reaching up to cup his face, “We, are a team. There is no way in hell I’m letting you go by yourself, and you have no need to worry for me, I am no longer the weak helpless girl you have known all along. We’re going together, end of story.” She pulled away, “I’ll go get ready.”

The Dark Witch stubbornly sashayed out of the receiving room, but not before she caught Anaya’s words to her brother, “Well, damn, brother… I don’t know how you can say no to that.”

*******

They had travelled light.

And by light, I mean in the dark of the night with Lacy dressed in comfortable black clothes and a thick dark fur cloak as she rode Ace.

Reed had wanted to get this over and done with, so quickly that he had asked Lacy if she would be okay going the old school way, without cars nor guards.

The Dark Witch, not wanting him to rescind on his decision had readily agreed, even though she had had a lot of reservations about his plan.

The ride had been quite different from what she was used to if she was totally being honest, and a little uncomfortable too due to the whole fast motion,

But Ace was loving every bit of it, and his excitement had been so infectious that she had soon found herself enjoying the whole ride and the way the wind blew in her blond curls.

When they had crossed over into the Dark Forest, it felt like Lacy was finally coming home.

She wanted nothing more than to explore the forest that had given her her new identity, but she knew that they didn’t have much time, and so she relished in the peaceful calm of being in the same spot that had once terrified her so, noting how once they neared vampire territory, all of the calm she was experiencing suddenly vanished.

She was one of them too.

A creature of the night that fed on b***d and the emotions of people.

Lacy really did not know how to feel about that.

It seemed the vampires were expecting them though, for they were ushered into the b***d sucking territory without much haggle.

The supposed headquarters of the Supernatural Council was huge.

An intimidatingly tall building whose sheer opulence almost made Lacy open her mouth in awe.

Honestly, if she had thought her parents’ mansion, or the Lyken Castle back at the B***d Moon Clan plush, then this was five time more.

The Dark Witch climbed off her beast mate’s back, and he quickly changed back into his human form, fully clothed in an attire that matched hers and looking totally handsome in it too.

“You ready?” He asked her, his blue eyes the only thing hinting his concern. Aside that, he was the perfect avenging angel.

“Yes,” Lacy swallowed deeply, lifting her chin up with pride.

Whatever this darned council threw their way, they were going to deal with it,

Together.

“I love you, Lace,” He assured her, squeezing her hand.

“And I love you too, Reed, now come on… let’s go get these bastards.”

The two buff vampires in dark suits, completely nailing the bouncer s***h bodyguard look opened the huge double doors for the Alpha King and his mate, all heads in the huge chapel-like room turning to have a look at them.

They made their way down the aisle, still holding each other’s hands. When they made it to the front, where Resno Granmeyer sat on his high throne, Reed jumped right into it, “You have fifteen minutes, Granmeyer, make it all count.”

The First leader and Supreme Enforcer of the Supernatural Council, King Resno Granmeyer of the Vampire realm stared down at the Lyken wolf. He had always admired the kid’s spunk, but sometimes spunk just wasn’t enough. “Winchester, we’re glad—”

“Just cut to the chase already,” Reed growled, his sheer rudeness causing Lacy to squeeze his hand softly in warning.

He had promised not to let his anger get the best of him, but how could he keep to that promise when just a few yards away from him, Lucius sat, watching the scene unfold, a contented smirk right in place?

For all Lacy’s bravado, he could feel her hand trembling slightly in his, and why wouldn’t it? It was the first time she was seeing her ex-mate in person after the horrible treatment he had put her through.

Reed decided there and then that he was going to get his temper in check.

For her sake at least.

While he did get away with a lot of thins in this council, he certainly didn’t need to go pushing his luck even though he was totally pissed, especially when his mate was here with him.

The first leader of the council continued on as though he hadn’t rudely interrupted, “We’re glad you could honor our invitation on such a short notice today,” He got right into it, “The Supernatural Council received a complaint filed against you, claiming you have abducted the mate of the Alpha of the Blue Valley Pack, and there’s evidence to prove it. How do you plead, Winchester?”

Reed stared at the small man sitting on the throne incredulously, willing his temper to slow down. They had asked him a question, he was going to answer it, “Not f*****g guilty.” His eyes glared daggers at the Alpha werewolf even as he said this.

“Great.” He interjected, “This trial is officially in session, you can both take your seats.”
